Synopsis

I’m the bad boy of rock.

I play hard and party harder, my life is every dude’s dream.

Women throwing themselves at me, more money than I know what to do with and I get to do what I love.

Perform.

I thought things couldn’t get any better and I was right.

I’m no stranger to controversy, a side effect of doing whatever the fuck I like, but maybe I’ve taken things too far this time.

Being constantly in the spotlight is hard, especially when you’re on a downhill spiral and the only place left is rock bottom.

The question is, how the fuck am I going to get myself out of this one?

Review

Missy Johnson’s Wicked Indulgence was a quick hour read back into the life of sexy Sax. I’ll admit that Wicked Innocence is probably my favorite novel from this author so I was excited to hear that we’d be diving back into his world and getting a little more background from the life he came from.

While I had really high hopes and appreciated seeing just how much Sax’s past had affected him, there was a lot missing for me. There were a handful of times that the characters stormed off in a conversation, which resulted in it feeling like unresolved scenes. Because of that desire for more from the moment, I was often left unsatisfied and wishing for the author to use those instances as a catalyst for conflict. Furthermore, there was one major occurrence in this novella that felt like a whiplash move. I wasn’t sure if the author did it to up the steam factor or what, but the romance happened far too quickly and seemingly out of the blue. Everything felt like a lightning jolt action rather than a buildup to understand the actions.

The first book in the series was such a rockstar romance for me, so I think the bar was set pretty high for Wicked Indulgence. I loved getting to see Sax with his sister and just how much he adored her. I appreciated seeing how hard he was working to overcome his family’s lack of support; and I definitely felt like this book helped me to understand his personality more in the beginning of Wicked Innocence. While this is a prequel novella, it was written after the first book and I think that the way the series is approached would make a difference to readers.

Scandalous

Synopsis

Our past defines who we are.

There are things from my past that I will do anything to keep hidden.

Things that I know Beth wouldn’t understand. How could she when I don’t understand what happened myself?

I blame myself everyday for the things I’ve done, and as I get closer to Beth I realise that maybe I’m not ready for this. Maybe I don’t deserve her.

Regardless, I know she can never find out.

But if there was one thing I know better than anyone, it’s that secrets don’t stay hidden for long.

And sometimes when they break, they are scandalous.

Review

I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of Scandalous ever since Missy Johnson announced that she would be writing it. It is a novella in the Tease series that brings together Coop, Mia, Beth, and Roman. That means I expected all of the sauciness of the previous books but multiplied. Unfortunately, while I did enjoy it, I can’t say that it’s my favorite of the series either.

As I was reading, I just kind of felt like the story fell flat. The beginning seemed to be a little all over the place and didn’t really connect with the ending in my opinion. I couldn’t understand the point of some of the conversations or things that happened; it almost felt rushed to me. Furthermore, the plot was pretty straightforward with getting the characters from point A to point B. The shining light for me was seeing the interaction between all the main characters. Because we got their individual stories in the first two books, it was perfect to see how becoming friends for the four of them would work out – especially given the nature of Beth and Cooper’s relationship. It was nice to see the conflicts arise and need to be worked out for the individual characters, as well as their counterparts. I also loved the independence that Beth was working toward, but I do wish there was more of it. The mystery surrounding Roman came unraveled and I actually really appreciated his whole back story.

All in all, this wasn’t a bad book but it’s certainly not my favorite either. I wish more attention would have been paid to Beth’s discovery about her father or deeper discussion into Roman’s background. It felt like those were the driving forces of the book but just barely touched upon. I am a big fan of the ending though, and it definitely filled my heart with love and hope!

Synopsis

Male escort.

That got your attention.

Some of the most powerful and well known women in the country pay to have sex with me, some of them married. Some are into more than just straight sex, which is why they call me. Bondage, power play, submission…nothing is off the table. I will do anything for the right price.

The stories I could tell you about a certain high profile congresswoman, or that innocent blonde actress. Trust me, she’s not so innocent.

Guys would kill for my job. I’m living the fucking dream. Meaningless sex, no relationship hang-ups and I’m rolling in the dough. Life is perfect, just the way it is.

Until I meet her.

She changes everything.

She makes me want more than I’ve ever wanted for myself and she believes in me. But she also thinks I sell insurance. I can’t stop what I do, but I can’t give her up.

Eventually, my two worlds are going to collide and when they do, shit will hit the fan.

Review

I picked up this book because I signed up for an ARC of the second in the series, Promiscuous, which will be released on February 8th. However, when I read what it was about, I was instantly intrigued. The idea of a male escort being the main voice heard throughout – I mean, where can you go wrong? Ok, ok so there are plenty of ways that premise can go wrong. Luckily, Missy Johnson did not disappoint in her follow through.

We are introduced to Mr. Liam Cooper and holy heck did I want to get to know him. The idea of a male point of view always impresses me because the norm is so often that of a female or a dual view point at the very least. I loved Missy’s writing style. When her character is speaking, it’s almost as if you are a friend and he’s speaking quite colloquially to you. It made the story feel more personal in a way. Because of how informal the language and structure was, you saw this whole other side of Coop. As a male escort, he’s confident (and maybe sometimes cocky) and always trying to portray whoever the client wants him to be. However, through these instances where he’s talking to the reader in a way, we are able to see a much more vulnerable side to the character.

As for the other characters, I was intrigued but not necessarily invested in any of them. I was curious and I liked how they played into the story, but nothing about them stood out to me. This truly was a story about Coop and his journey to finding his love and making the hard choice.

I thought the story was cute and the sex scenes were definitely hot and steamy! I blushed reading through a couple of them and trust me, I never get flustered over something like that!

I guess I should also write a disclaimer that I am biased about this book. The reason Coop continues to be an escort is to pay for a trial and medical care for his mother who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. My husband’s grandfather was taken from us because of this disease so that really made me understand his emotions and motives a little but more than maybe I would have under other circumstances.

Overall, I love me some Coop and really liked the story. Book 2 is centered around one of his famous clients, Bethany, but I’m anxious to see where it goes. Missy sure caught me in her web with this one!

Bs Review

VOLUME ONE

Wildcard is the story of tennis pro Ryder Stevens and Scarlett, young mother to Jake. Their lives seem about as far apart as they can get but a series of events brings their worlds together. Wildcard is a fast paced story, there’s a lot to cover in a short amount of time. These two don’t know each other very long before sparks are flying and things get physical. They’re both stuck in their own lives, in need of reminding that it’s ok to be imperfect, to feel. It only takes a seven year old to get them both to start questioning their carefully constructed worlds.

I already adore Scarlett. She’s the epitome of strength and selflessness. Being the mother of a sick child, she has had to learn to be tough and take life day-by-day, ready for the unexpected. I love her protective instincts, her sassy nature and that she hasn’t let life make her bitter. She is honest, sometimes embarrassingly so and says what she feels, never forgetting to appreciate what she has. Ryder can learn a lot from her and even though they’ve only known each other a short time, we can already see the potential personal evolutions in store for them.

This unique storyline is fun and sweet with just the right amount of heat throw in. A cocky professional athlete and the young mother of a sick child seem like an unlikely pair, but their different perspectives on life have already set the tone for this story to be one of growth and transformation. Ryder and Scarlett’s phone and Skype conversations were hilarious. Seeing them push each other’s buttons put a huge smile on my face. When they’re face-to-face you can practically feel the tension surrounding them and it made the emotions of this story that much more intense. I hate that we’re left with a huge cliffhanger, because I have to see what happens next for these two. Bring on part two!! Rating — 4 Stars

VOLUME TWO

This installment picks up right where the last one left off. Ryder is fuming about the situation with Scarlett and despite his best efforts, he can’t seem to get her off his mind. We’ve heard so much about Ryder’s reputation with women that I kind of enjoyed seeing him pissed off and in full bad boy mode. On the other hand, things in Scarlett’s life seem to be unraveling quickly and I absolutely felt for her. Waiting for them to face the music was a tad uncomfortable. I knew the lust was building between them the longer they avoided the inevitable confrontation. Missy certainly did not disappoint. When these two finally break the silence, things are explosive (like get the fire extinguisher hot)! It was a satisfying moment to say the least.

Missy also throws in a bit of a mystery element in this novella. Scarlett’s past comes knocking on her door, threatening to ruin everything she’s struggled to hold onto. I was incredibly intrigued by her questionable past and wondering what could have possibly set current events in motion. Ryder’s insistence on finding out the truth makes me nervous. He has a lot to lose and everything in his life happens very publically. There were moments where I felt like I wanted more. I realize that this is the nature of serial novellas sometimes, but parts of this novella felt rushed. The quick pace of this story kept me from becoming completely consumed because just as I was settling into one twist of the story, another was being thrown our way. I wanted things to slow down so the characters could enjoy the good moments and really be allowed to feel in the not-so-good ones. I wanted to experience these feelings right along with them and at times things moved too quickly for me to completely immerse myself in the emotions.

I really am enjoying the journey Missy has laid out for Ryder and Scarlett. I think it’s unique and has the perfect mixture of storytelling, suspense and steam. I hate being left on a cliffhanger, because if it were up to me I’d already know how this story ends. I am anxious to see the sparks fly when Scarlett realizes that Ryder hasn’t backed down from inserting himself in her life, problems and all. I’m also dying to know what it is that Scarlett is trying to keep hidden away. They both have so much left to figure out, individually, as well as together and I need to know what happens to this couple when the dust settles. Bring on part three! Rating — 4 Star

VOLUME THREE

As part three begins, things with Tony have officially reached the point of no return. Both Ryder and Scarlett have made their moves and now all they can do is wait to see how things shake out. This volume is completely driven by Scarlett’s secret, as Ryder tries to unearth the truth while Scarlett struggles to keep her past concealed. I felt like I was counting down to the minute when everything would just explode. Missy did a good job at building the suspense and keeping me guessing until the moment when all hell broke loose. I enjoyed the emotions she created around this whole situation. I could definitely sense the anxiety and fear that the characters struggled with.

Ryder continued to show significant character growth throughout this novel. The man Missy leaves us with is far from the irresponsible, nonchalant playboy from the first volume. I would have liked to see a little more growth in their overall relationship. I felt like too much time was spent lying and hiding things from each other and not enough time spent on their relationship after her secret is revealed. Because of this the end of the story seemed to wrap up fairly quickly and I felt it took something away from how much struggle and strife they had endured. However, the author did resolve things in a satisfactory manner and gave us an epilogue to enjoy as well. All in all, Ryder and Scarlett’s journey was sexy, complicated, littered with secrets and full of emotion. Wildcard was a fun serial and I hope we will see more of Scarlett and Ryder in the future because I feel like their story just can’t be over. Rating — 4 Stars

Cs Review

VOLUME ONE

Wildcard was definitely a hot, sexy read that will leave you wanting more and more! It’s the story of Ryder; a frisky tennis player who happens to live on the side of trouble. After a risqué night, he finds himself injured and temporarily unable to play the sport anymore. Now that he has time to focus on something other than himself, he actually reads his fan mail and discovers a letter to which he feels he must defend himself.

Through this defense, he meets the lovely Scarlett who is a ball-busting, independent woman. The two strike up a friendship and the story unfolds from there. I really did enjoy this book because not only were some scenes HOT as sin, but also somewhat reflective. I liked that we got a lot of both the main characters individually, because it allowed us to see their personality and who they were before they’d presumably change one another; who they were then they were together. It’s interesting to see this dynamic because we don’t often get that in novels. However, the little we did get of them together was utter perfection. They were challenging, sweet (in a way), and clearly already molding to each other. I also really enjoyed the fact that Missy wrote this installment purely from Ryder’s point of view. She has a knack for getting inside the male psyche and writing a fantastic story. It’s a true talent that she has and I’m glad she continuously utilizes it! There was a pretty brutal cliffhanger that she left us hanging on, but it certainly left me watering at the mouth for the next installment! 😉 Rating — 4 Star

VOLUME TWO

After the cliffhanger that we were left with in Volume 1, I was on pins and needles to get this next installment. Volume 2 picks up right where the first one ended so readers don’t miss a single beat. Ryder is now left to navigate his way through a heartbreak, while stuck in the U.S. to help at a tennis camp. After several days of no communication with Scarlett, she comes to see him and eventually learns a cold, hard truth. However, with that single truth just comes other hidden truths.

I was definitely glad that we got answers in this second installment. While some of the scenes were sexy and reminiscent of the first book, this one took on an entirely different feeling. Where the first one was attraction and the coming together, this was more anger and ferocity – even when they were together. It definitely gave us a different dynamic to the characters to see a more vulnerable side of both of them. I also loved the added twist of intrigue. I definitely was not expecting to have this whole mysterious background of Scarlett’s, but my curiosity is officially piqued!

My only real complaint is that, as a whole, the story felt a little rushed. Sometimes I felt like I was missing the more in depth conversations, and therefore emotions, which left me somewhat bereft. However, I did still truly enjoy Wildcard, Vol 2. I missed not getting as much of Scarlett’s son, but it made sense with the direction the storyline took. We are once again left on a cliffhanger, but this one definitely wasn’t as bad as the first book. I can’t wait for the third volume to figure out how Missy Johnson brings it all together – and to solve all these undiscovered things! Rating — 4 Star

VOLUME THREE

Volume Three of Wildcard takes us on quite a journey. At the end of Volume 2, Ryder has paid Tony off, unbeknownst to Scarlett. She has been pushed too far and finally took Penny’s advice and made the call to have Tony threatened. Both are harboring these secrets and dealing with the consequences of not communicating. However, with secrets comes distrust. Ryder begins to know when Scar is lying and hiding things, which naturally leads him to become curious about what she could be hiding and how bad it truly is. Scarlett does end up coming clean and her secret is one to not be missed! It was not something I would have ever predicted!

I felt like there was a lot going on in this final installment of Wildcard. There were so many subplots so we were getting a lot of action happening. First, I loved seeing more of Jake in this one, since that was my issue with the second one. He is such a major part of Scar’s life that not seeing him as much just didn’t make sense. I also adore seeing Ryder with Jake because in those moments, you really get to see the growth of his character. Furthermore, I appreciated the story line with Cally for this same reason. Through these secondary characters, we were able to see all the changes that Ryder was striving for. As for Scar, we saw a lot of her moral dilemma and guilt in this piece of Wildcard. She had a lot of internal struggling happening in this one, so I was incredibly grateful for her points of view, even more so than in the previous parts.

Overall, I liked this installment but I was left feeling a little like “that’s it?” at the end. There was so much build up of the secret and what could potentially happen, then we get answers and within a couple chapters it just seemed to be over. It was a great twist and I wish that there had just been a little more exploration into that issue, particularly with Tony. I think Missy Johnson did a wonderful job with the individual pieces in the books, but the overall greater arc fell a little flat for me. However, that is not to say that I didn’t enjoy the suspense and the characters, because I really did. I just wish that the serial went out with a bigger bang, like I’m used to with this author’s writing. Rating — 4 Star

Synopsis

Don’t let my petite and innocent appearance fool you, because I’m one person you don’t want to cross. I’m Micah, the youngest member of Resurrection…If only they knew how young. My fake ID says I’m twenty-one.

And I will be…in four years.

What can I say? I blossomed early. Home sucked, so I left, determined to do something with my life.

Landing the gig as lead vocalist in the band was a dream come true. I’ve worked hard to make something of myself and nothing is going to ruin that for me.

Then He showed up.

He’s hot as hell and so into me. But he’s also twenty-five.

I don’t want to lie to him, but if the truth comes out I’ll lose everything, including him.

Review

Wicked Innocence is honestly my favorite Missy Johnson book to date! As a reader, I can see tremendous growth in her writing style which elevates the overall feel of the story for me. She is able to keep me incredibly invested and wanting more and more of these characters!

This novel follows the story of Micah and Sax, as it is told from dual points of view. Both are dealing with their own pasts, but in very different ways. Micah is rebuilding her life while blocking out everything about who she was. Sax is swimming in guilt for what happened and regretting it every day. The relationship that forms is cute at times, incredibly passionate at others, and heartbreaking all at the same time. The reader is aware that there is a giant lie looming over their heads so you’re constantly on pins and needles waiting for that shoe to drop. However, the reason for Micah’s lies is so honest in a way that you can’t help but feel bad for her deception. Wicked Innocence is incredible because I think it forced me to look at things from a different angle and feel compassion for both these characters at the same time, even though logic may have said I should have been angry for lying about her age.

Missy will engage your attention from that first moment down to the very last chapter. It’s a quick read that is sure to make you smile at times, and feel pain at others. It’s an incredible story of compassion and perseverance, and I loved it! I hope Missy continues to write for a long time and keeps giving us these wonderful surprises!

Excerpt

He reached into his pocket and pulled out his ipod. “Put on some music if you like.”

I took it, letting my fingers glide over his. His eyes darted toward me briefly and my heart jumped. I quickly looked down, busying myself with his music collection. I ran through artists until I came across Severed. Smiling, I clicked play.

“You have your own music in here,” I said with a giggle.

He shrugged. “If I don’t appreciate it, then why should I expect anyone else to?”

“I guess. I just think it’s cute. Like an actor going to see themselves at the cinema.”

“You don’t think Nic Cage or Brad Pitt go to the movies?” he asked in mock horror.

“I don’t know. I met Brad Pitt once in Starbucks.”

He chuckled. “I can just imagine how that went down.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.

“Well, you were kind of freaked out when you realized who I was. Meeting someone actually famous? You’d lose the plot,” he laughed.

“Well, in my defense, I didn’t have posters of Brad Pitt all over my walls—” I shut my mouth, but it was too late. No, no, no…

“You had posters of me on your walls?” he repeated, amused. “Micah, that is adorable.”

“Shut up,” I mumbled, coving my face with my hands. He chuckled loudly next to me, clearly not ready to let this go. “No! No laughing. Just shut up and drive.”

Synopsis

Mace Jordan was not the type of guy I expected to sweep me off my feet. I knew of the crowd he ran with, and they were bad news. But beyond that tough, biker exterior was a sweetheart, and one that treated me like his princess.

I liked being the good girl with the bad boy, but I never expected this. What I saw on his computer…I thought I knew him.

But I was wrong. So wrong…

If there was ever a bad time for me to fall for a chick it was now, but from the moment I saw Leeta, she had me. There was something special about her, and I had to have her. But I also had a job to do, and I couldn’t let her distract me from that. I couldn’t let her discover that side of me either. But she’s not stupid, and I know she’s getting close. God knows what she’ll do if she discovers the truth.

Or what she thinks is the truth.

Review

I had seen a lot of the teasers and a couple excerpts before reading Provoke, so my interest was definitely piqued with this one. I have also read both Tease and Promiscuous by Missy so I was familiar with her writing style. That being said, I was incredibly impressed with Provoke. It seems like each book continues to get better than the last, which always leaves me wanting to jump into the next story from her.

The plot in Provoke is definitely not one I have come across before. Disclaimer, this is a darker read than what we’ve experienced with Missy’s previous writings. It’s a lot more disturbing, but also a lot more unique. However, this unique quality is what I honestly think continues to bring me back to more of Missy Johnson’s writing. She doesn’t write about the same story over and over; she develops something new and different. Although it was difficult to read at times because of the thought that this could really be happening in places, there are no real graphic descriptions that would leave a reader horrified.

I absolutely loved both of the main characters, especially since we were able to see inside both Leeta and Mace’s heads. Leeta is a strong-willed, independent woman who actually thinks straight. I loved that she didn’t automatically take him back and waited until she knew with conviction what her choices were. And Mace…oh Mace. He was one of those characters you just have to love, even through his screw ups. You could tell he always had the best of intentions, but never carried out the action in the best manner. It just made him that much more lovable! We don’t get to see the start of their relationship, but that doesn’t mean we miss out on any steamy angst going on! The book begins when they’ve been together for several months, but I actually think it works because there is less time on them learning simple things about each other, and more on the overall plot and arc of where the book is going. It allows us to explore the deeper secrets hidden, rather than the more shallow, getting to know you stuff.

I did have a few issues with jumps in the story where the transitions weren’t as smooth as I would have liked them to be. The epilogue also didn’t make complete sense to me – I wasn’t sure of the reasoning behind having Cash in there (just to tie up loose ends or if there’d be a sequel based on him). Overall though, I did find I really liked this one. It was a very quick read that is hard to put down once you start it. Furthermore, I love seeing the growth in Missy Johnson’s writing, as the next one just continues to get better than the last!

Review

After finishing Tease, I was quite intrigued and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Promiscuous and was so grateful to receive an ARC. From reading the synopsis, I never expected what I unraveled in these pages. Rather than this story being about Coop, it is all about Ms. Bethany Masters. After Tease, I wasn’t necessarily invested in her, but I totally am now!

From the very first chapter, Johnson slams you with a lost, wandering girl who then becomes just utterly broken. I loved that the beginning of this book was essentially the ending of Tease from Bethany’s point of view. It helped us as readers to understand a different dynamic to the scene. If you didn’t really feel anything toward Beth in the first book, I promise that you will experience a total 180. I went from nothing to sympathy, admiration, love, frustration – I ran the gamut. I really did admire her strong desire for her independence though; it’s not something we see very often in heroines.

My biggest peeve with Beth was her inability to be consistent – which she had admitted as a fault herself. One moment she wanted to see or hear from Roman (or Coop) and once she did, it was like she couldn’t get away from them fast enough. I think my favorite line was something along the lines of “I’m more hot and cold than Katy freaking Perry”! I just wish that she was able to make up her mind a couple of times rather than being so wishy-washy about the situation.

We are also introduced to the sexy, mysterious Roman – who I freaking adored! That suspenseful nature and not fully understanding all of his motives just hit all my favorite spots. I loved that he had this perfect mix of fierce protectiveness, but knew not to push boundaries.  He wasn’t your romantic gestures hero, but he was romantic in the way that he could just sense what Beth needed, and didn’t need.

If you’re looking for the steam that was present in Tease, there are a handful of scenes that will get your blood boiling – especially the club scene. However, I think this book was about much more than that. It was more of a journey for Beth and about her finding her strength again. She needed to begin to heal and that’s what we see start to happen in this book. Overall, I really liked Promiscuous, maybe even a little bit more so than Tease. The beginning was a little slow for my pace, but it picked up pretty quickly and then I couldn’t put it down. I honestly cannot wait until Book Three comes out – I am anxious to see what happens to all these characters. Whereas in the first I wasn’t overly invested in them, I couldn’t seem to get enough in this book.

There was no cliffhanger, but definitely some things left open that I want answers to. I want to know the mystery behind Roman and what secrets he has buried (and thinks we won’t find out)! I want to see how the dynamic between Beth and Coop develops (especially with revelations that came about), as well as the relationship between Beth and Roman plays out – particularly after she unravels his mysteries. If you haven’t picked up Tease yet, go get it and then scramble to read Promiscuous! You definitely will NOT be disappointed!

Excerpt

I was beginning to realize what this was: he wanted more of the party girl. He was here to see the Beth who stayed out all night drinking, and kissing random girls and making out with handsome men.

Not me. Well, not the real me, anyway.

I slipped a finger through the tie of my robe, letting it fall open. I arched my shoulders, letting the material float down my shoulders. Goosebumps hit my arms as I stood there confidently. Inside, I was a screaming mess.

What the hell am I doing? What if he touched me? What if I freaked out?

Sure, I’d had plenty of sex since the rape, but none sober. I hadn’t let anyone touch me without being completely smashed first.

He stared at me for a moment, his eyes wandering over my curves as time seemed to freeze. I couldn’t read his expression, but the longer he stood there, watching me, the more I began to panic. Without saying a thing, he bent down and retrieved the robe, threading my arms back into it.

“I’m not here to fuck you, Beth.” He spoke softly, his hands running over the soft silk of my robe, down my arms to my fingers. I jumped back, both relieved and confused.

Well, this is embarrassing.

Author Bio

Missy lives in a small town in Central Victoria with her husband, and her confused pets (a dog who think she’s a cat, a cat who thinks he’s a dog…you get the picture). When she’s not writing, she can usually be found looking for something to read.
