RELEASE DAY BLITZ – Ravenous by L.L. Collins

Title: Ravenous
Author: L.L. Collins
Release Date: April 20, 2017

Raven: To seek, plunder, or prey. To devour ravenously. To seize as spoil.

I am Raven.

I knew what it meant to fight my way through life.
To be the victim, the spoil, the prey.
I decided long ago I would take control of my future.

No more bug infested couches.

No more drug-addicted mothers or absentee fathers.

No more welfare checks or moldy bread.

No more settling.

I thought I had it all figured out, a way out of the hand I’d been dealt.

Until my life got turned upside down by two very different men who look at me with mirrored lust in their eyes.
Their want is palpable, heady. Their desire makes me reckless.
I no longer know who I am or who I want.

The only thing I do know is, I am ravenous.
Voracious. Intensely eager for gratification or satisfaction.

Despite the fact I know it is a disaster waiting to happen, I can’t stop it.

I’m afraid I will never be sated.

L.L. Collins delivers another unforgettable journey with Raven’s story in Ravenous. Powerful, poignant and full of feels, this novel swept me off my feet, tugged on my heartstrings and left me begging for more. Raven, Brecken and Porter shared a journey that was unexpected and yet somehow, absolutely right for these characters. I didn’t know that I would grow to love them as quickly and completely as I did, but L.L. Collins has a way of sneaking in and stealing my heart. The chemistry between the characters absolutely sizzled, sparking across the pages and threatening to consume them before all was said and done. However, it was the understated and significant connection between the three main characters that undeniably ruled and left my heart aching over the insecurities and harsh truths that were revealed during the course of this story.

“Your past can’t define your future, Raven. It just can’t.”

Intelligent, loyal and incredibly kind, Raven is the type of heroine you can’t help but root for. From the very beginning I was hooked, excited to uncover this woman’s history and anxious to see where her story would take me. With Raven, L.L. Collins created a voice that was genuine, easy to relate to and impossible not to love. I felt every bit of her heartache and agonized over her feelings for both Brecken and Porter. Her experiences became my own as I lost myself to the raw emotions that colored the words of her journey. Raven also underwent some significant growth over the course of the story. I enjoyed seeing her transform into a more confident, feisty and self-sufficient woman as she pushed her limits and redefined her life on her own terms.

“Two brothers, completely different, but both with a strange hold over a part of my heart, which was ridiculous because neither of them really knew me at all.”

While Ravenous is clearly Raven’s story, so much of this book also belonged to Brecken and Porter. I adored getting to know both brothers and much like Raven, found myself drawn to each of them for entirely different reasons. I loved the dichotomy that L.L. Collins has created with these seemingly opposite personalities. Unraveling these men was incredibly intriguing and decidedly satisfying. While I enjoyed exploring their differences, I was enchanted by the similarities they shared and the insecurities that had marked them both so deeply. My heart definitely knew which brother it wanted more, but L.L. Collins had me second-guessing myself on multiple occasions in that fantastically frustrating way only she can.

“You deserve to find someone who lives and breathes you.”

L.L. Collins really outdid herself with Ravenous. Exquisitely written, perfectly paced and filled with vibrant, one-of-a-kind characters, I absolutely devoured this novel. When I wasn’t swooning over Brecken and Porter or falling in love with Raven, my heart was being invaded by the fantastic secondary characters that colored this book with so much light and levity. The author did an amazing job at balancing the angst of the past with the scorching hot encounters and heartfelt declarations of the present to deliver something magical and utterly captivating. Packed with breathtaking moments of emotional honesty, genuine vulnerability and subtle chemistry, Ravenous owned me entirely. From the first page to the last I was hooked on Raven, Brecken and Porter, desperate to know how their story would play out and anxiously awaiting every twist and turn L.L. Collins decided to throw my way. This author is undoubtedly at her best with this one. Ravenous is sexy, smart and surprisingly sweet – an absolute must read from L.L. Collins!

Review

L.L. Collins delivers her best Jaded Regret novel yet with Natalie’s story! Exposed was everything I’ve come to love from this incredible rocker romance series and then some, tugging on my heartstrings from the very first page and taking me on a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. Kai and Natalie were the perfect pair, radiating a sparkling chemistry that was utterly addictive and sharing a connection that proved time and again to be deeply significant and absolutely inimitable. The easy friendship between this couple, paired with their shared passion for music, gave this book something incredibly special that made it impossible to put down. I adored the way Kai and Natalie used their love of music to bare themselves to one another, bringing this story to life through some of my absolute favorite songs. I completely devoured L.L. Collins’ beautiful words and found myself unavoidably caught up in the heady emotions, heartfelt dialogue, vibrant imagery and lyrical prose of Kai and Natalie’s unforgettable journey.

“People who loved you hurt you. Whenever you let someone get that close to you, you opened yourself up to allowing them to shred your soul from the inside out.”

Just when I think L.L. Collins couldn’t possibly write a more heart wrenching character, Natalie comes along and proves me wrong. While she was certainly every bit the selfless and loyal woman I knew she’d be, L.L. Collins revealed so much more of this character over the course of the story. Natalie’s demons were deeply personal, breaking my heart repeatedly as she struggled with her total lack of self worth and inability to accept love. In many ways Natalie was a complete contradiction. With the band, she was a powerhouse – professional, assertive, intelligent; yet Natalie’s personal life found her to be a shell of the beautiful, strong woman who represented Jaded Regret – untrusting and self-deprecating. I was mesmerized by the internal war being waged and adored the way in which L.L. utilized Natalie’s relationships with Kai, Beau, and the rest of the band to explore the issues at the heart of this story. I loved watching this character grow as L.L. Collins worked her magic and took Natalie to new and unexpected places in Exposed.

“No one ever gets me. Not really. I keep myself so closed off; I don’t let them. But you…you see me without me even allowing you to. You just do.”

L.L. Collins’ spellbinding character development also extends to her delicious heroes. Kai was book boyfriend perfection and had me head over heels from the moment he appeared on the scene. I absolutely adored everything about this character. From his relationship with his family and friends to his incredible work ethic and the respect and care he showed towards Natalie, Kai is the man every woman dreams of finding. As we got to know him over the course of this novel, I enjoyed seeing both the sweet and steamy sides of him. His ability to make me laugh, blush, think and totally melt all in the course of a single exchange earned him the designation of utterly swoon-worthy. L.L. Collins kept this character fairly drama free, allowing him the focus to take care of Natalie and help her heal while going to battle with her stubborn demeanor and closed-off personality. I loved how easily Kai seemed to fit into Natalie’s world, finding his place amongst the Jaded Regret family without much fanfare. He was the perfect match for our secretive, self-loathing, anxiety-ridden heroine and in turn it was his charm, confidence, and unending patience that made this story absolutely shine.

“Do you want to know what my heart wants or what my head says?”

One of my favorite things about this novel was the effortless incorporation of music throughout Kai and Natalie’s story. I found myself connecting with not only the chosen music, but also the implied emotions that proved to be so significant to the overall storyline. Once again, L.L. Collins fearlessly tackles the real issues, shining a spotlight on Natalie’s problems and encouraging readers to face the harsh realities of this character’s life with all of the respect, grace, and understanding these tough topics deserve. Exposed overflowed with genuine emotion, a nod to the incredible heart and soul that the author has so obviously put into this story. L.L. Collins’ writing is undeniably electric, capturing the intensity of Natalie and Kai’s connection along with the complexity of their story and relaying it to the readers with all of the powerful feeling, delightful wit, obvious intelligence and delicious steam that keeps me coming back for more. Breathtaking, colorful and full of feels, Exposed is a poignant story of self-acceptance and unconditional love and L.L. Collins has definitely left her mark on my heart with this must read novel.

Synopsis

Tanner Hart, the All-American bad boy bass guitarist of Jaded Regret, has one motto— play women’s bodies like he does the strings of his guitar— hard, in tune, and giving it his all until the show is over. The only strings he wants attached to him are the ones he plays on the stage.

He has quite the reputation, even with his own band, and he likes it that way. It keeps the truth of who he really is locked deep inside. But there’s so much more to him than anyone really knows…

Now that he’s successful, he can afford to find out what really happened to the only girl who’s ever held his heart. The only thing is…will he really want to know the truth?

Review

Hartstrings might just be L.L. Collins’ most emotionally tumultuous story yet! Tanner and MacKenzie took me by surprise, their angst-ridden journey an unexpected exploration of self-worth, trust, and salvation. This book absolutely gutted me, forcing me to feel the tragedies of MacKenzie and Tanner’s lives deep down in my soul. L.L. Collins’ writing is spot on and overwhelming, perfectly capturing the anguish and reprieve found throughout this novel. Tanner and Mac’s immediate connection was unexpected and yet somehow so incredibly right. From the moment they met I could feel their magnetic pull, an undeniable recognition of shared pain between their souls that was heady and powerful. L.L. Collins slowly nurtures the sparks between Tanner and MacKenzie, allowing them to build in their own time into something electric and mesmerizing. As with each novel in this series, Hartstrings carries the weight of some very difficult topics, giving Tanner and MacKenzie’s story an emotional significance that blew me away. Their journey is heart wrenching, unforgettable, and simply stunning – a beautifully broken tale that left me breathless.

“Tanner turned my entire world upside down the second he burst into our hotel room and became the only knight in sexy armor I’d ever known.”

Tanner stole my heart in the most surprising way. While I knew his player persona masked some sort of past pain, I never could have imagined the heartache L.L. Collins had in store for this character. His family history, personal loss, and the beautiful respite he found in his music came together to paint a stunning picture of a complicated and utterly heartbroken man. I loved the way Tanner’s relationship with MacKenzie altered him over the course of the story. Not only did we see growth of this character as an individual, but Tanner’s relationships with the rest of the band also flourished in light of his newfound emotional transparency and sense of purpose. The pieces of Tanner’s past that we get to experience also helped shape this character, giving him significant depth and allowing me to understand his true character in a way I wouldn’t have guessed. L.L. Collins unraveled Tanner so completely, allowing him to be vulnerable and raw. It was this gut wrenching honesty, coupled with Tanner’s fierce protectiveness and unwavering loyalty towards MacKenzie that marked me deeply and irrevocably.

“You’re mine now. I protect what’s mine.”

As for MacKenzie, L.L. Collins could have just ripped my heart out and tossed it in a blender and it probably would have been less painful. At times this character was emotionally devastating and yet she exuded a light that was brilliantly hopeful. Her life was an unending nightmare and I found myself shedding tears for her on more than one occasion. When Tanner’s world collides with hers there is a palpable shift. She grows in boldness and strength, eventually becoming more than a victim of her circumstances. I absolutely adored the care and grace with which L.L. Collins developed this character. Her transformation was genuinely portrayed, a mixture of trials and triumph that was perfectly breathtaking. I felt each of MacKenzie’s emotions rip through me, leaving behind pieces of this character that I couldn’t help but connect with. Written to be hesitant and insecure, a product of the life she’d been forced to lead, MacKenzie was the kind of heroine you can’t help but root for. I reveled in the moments of adorable flirtation and sassy banter that she shared with Tanner, glimpses into the healing woman who quietly won over my heart with each passing page.

“I didn’t truly know what love felt like until right this second. It was like being hit by a train at full speed but loving every second of it.”

Hartstrings was well paced, keeping me riveted to the story and desperate for more. L.L. Collins kept me on my toes with this twisting storyline. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another unexpected truth would come to light, throwing me for a loop and leaving my head and heart reeling. As always, L.L. Collins brings Tanner and MacKenzie’s story to life with the help of the rest of Jaded Regret and a handful of other secondary characters. The feeling of family that L.L. Collins has so expertly cultivated with this series is as strong as ever, giving Hartstrings a sense of comfortable familiarity that is incredibly satisfying. Despite the darkness and never-ending heartache, this novel overflows with hope and love. I found myself smiling at the most unexpected moments, the seriousness of the story perfectly balanced by the characters’ ready wit and flirtatious banter. L.L. Collins has truly outdone herself with this novel. Her writing absolutely shines, a potent cocktail of vibrant imagery, raw emotion, and heartfelt characters that left me drunk on Hartstrings. I can’t wait to see what L.L. Collins has in store for the next Jaded Regret novel.

Review

L.L. Collins has written another heartfelt and poignant journey of love, loss, forgiveness, and self-discovery with Snared. This novel took me by surprise, capturing my heart from the very beginning and taking me on a sweet, sexy, and absolutely unforgettable adventure. Beau and April’s story is raw, gut wrenching, and deeply moving. L.L. Collins put my heart through the wringer, inspiring with this beautifully tragic tale a hurricane of emotions that swept through me and left me emotionally spent. The writing is smart, witty, polished, and vibrant, bringing to life the intriguingly complex characters and expertly devised storyline. I absolutely adored seeing more of Johnny and Bex. They gave this story a comforting familiarity that made it so easy to lose myself in the world of Jaded Regret. L.L. Collins did a fantastic job introducing the other secondary characters, allowing us to glimpse their personalities in a way that made me anxious to hear their stories, especially Beau’s sister Natalie, who was the definition of unconditional love and surprisingly feisty. L.L. Collins already has me totally hooked on Jaded Regret!

“Sometimes the people that are supposed to love us just don’t love us enough.”

L.L. Collins has a true talent for writing characters that are exquisitely flawed. Creating personalities that society would deem as damaged, L.L. Collins gives these broken souls a voice, the impact of which is always staggering. Beau suffers from a mental illness that can at times be incredibly debilitating. He finds his solace in music, achieving peace of mind when he plays the drums. Determined to avoid relationships so as not to subject anyone else he loves to his tortured reality, Beau finds himself at a crossroads when April enters his life. L.L. Collins paints a heart-wrenching picture of emotional turmoil and internal struggle that left me reeling as I experienced Beau and April’s story. The relationship between these two developed in a natural and genuine way. Every emotion, vulnerability, insecurity, and professed secret came from a truthful place, somewhere the reader could easily relate to. L.L. Collins made connecting to Beau and April absolutely effortless and her words drew out powerful emotions that ensured my total investment in their happily ever after.

“Sometimes there was just nothing to say that was worthy of your feelings, so you just stayed quiet.”

Snared was the perfect balance of drama, humor, steam, and heartfelt emotion. I laughed, cried, blushed, and fell in love over and over again during the course of this novel. The pacing was spot on, whisking me away from the start and keeping me engrossed in Beau and April’s world until the very last page. The solid character development, significant emotional depth, and fluid storytelling made Snared nothing short of fantastic. L.L. Collins took this story in directions I never could have predicted and with each unexpected turn of events I found myself more and more enthralled. Snared confronted several tough topics, bringing to light harsh realities that society as a whole often only speaks about in whispers. L.L. Collins gave these issues a steady and sure voice through Beau, April, and the rest of the Snared family. I’m blown away by the grace and understanding with which L.L. highlights her characters’ imperfections, inadequacies, and mistakes. Her thoughtful prose delivers a sense of genuine acceptance that reaches from the pages and into the hearts of her readers. Snared is a breathtaking journey you don’t want to miss and a true testament to L.L. Collins’ incredible talent as an author.

Excerpt

Tanner started his riff, Johnny and Bex coming in as Bex began to sing, effectively silencing the crowd. In between her notes I could hear shouts from exuberant fans. My head cleared and it was just me on this stage with the most amazing band I could have ever asked for.

It was my turn to come in and come in I did. I took it over, allowing the screams and shouts of my name to fuel me to drum harder, faster, longer. When my solo was over and Bex began singing again, the screams were still reverberating in my head.

Before I knew it, April and her dad were walking onto the stage as we finished up our tenth song. Sweat dripped off of my face and into my shirt, which looked like I’d taken a shower in it. Before I could stop myself, I stood up and met her halfway across the stage. I held up my drum sticks, which started a frenzy in the crowd. They knew what I was doing. They were seasoned groupies.

April’s eyes met mine as she realized I was walking up to her. That same charge traveled through my body. I handed her the drumsticks without saying a word. The crowd went insane. I could see many flashes as people took pictures, but it didn’t bother me. She beamed as she took the sticks from my hands, her fingers brushing mine. I almost jumped back at her touch but forced myself to take one step back instead.

“Did you see this?” April boomed into the microphone. “Beau just gave me his drumsticks! Who is jealous right now?” The crowd screamed, jumping up and down. She looked back over at me and beamed.

I was frozen behind her. I felt Bex, Johnny, and Tanner come up and stand behind us and I immediately relaxed.

“We wanted to take a moment to thank you for coming to this Jaded Regret concert to benefit Young Angels Children’s Hospital, which you can see behind us. Because of all of your generosity, not only will we get to complete the next phase, but we will also get to help many foster kids that have aged out of the system but still need assistance. Thanks to Bexley Bryant-Gibbons, we’ll be assisting her in funding an assisted living facility here in Orlando for kids who have aged out of the system. It will help them with finding jobs, giving them life skills, and help them have a safe and low cost place to live.”

Bex stepped up next to April. “Thank you, Orlando,” she said, her voice gruff through her headset. “Most of you know that I have a special place in my heart for kids in the foster care system, especially those who never got to have families and aged out of the system. It’s my goal to help those that need it and get more kids families.” The crowd screamed and jumped up and down. Bex looked back at me for just a second, but I knew what the look meant. For kids like us who had no one. “Now who’s ready to rock?”

Bex nodded at us and we turned to go back to our respective places.

April put her hand on my arm before I could get too far from her. “Thank you,” she whispered into my ear. “I’ll keep them forever.” I allowed a small smile to play on my lips before turning away from her. I grabbed a new pair of drumsticks and watched as she exited the stage. She turned back and stood, watching me the entire time again.

I wasn’t sure what I was doing, but I could still feel where she’d touched me on my arm.

Guarding Hearts_1

Review

Guarding Hearts is one of those books that induces a huge happy sigh. Just when I think the Living Again series can’t possibly get any better, Ellis and Sam’s story comes along and blows me away all over again. Not only do we get to see the couples from the previous novels basking in there happily ever afters, but we are also introduced to some truly intriguing new characters. As always, L.L. Collins writes with purpose, carefully crafting a story that will make you think, feel, and fall in love. Her writing flows easily, allowing the reader to be swept up by her words and floated into the brilliant world she has built amongst the pages. Ellis and Sam share an instant connection that is absolutely magical. While they seem to be fated, L.L. Collins is careful not to let them succumb to disingenuous instalove. They fight their feelings and keep their personal secrets, adding to the build up of chemistry that absolutely sizzles between them and gives this novel a sexy edge that is utterly addictive.

“I feel like, when you look at me, you see me.”

Sam and Ellis are both complex characters and I was curious to see how deep their secrets went and how much growth they’d experience before they’d finally find their way. L.L. Collins did not disappoint, putting these two through the wringer as they faced their intense feelings, dealt with occupational hazards, and fought to keep their pasts behind them. The emotional rollercoaster that ensues had me connecting with these characters and fully investing myself in their happy ending. Initially Ellis and Sam appear to be total opposites, but as their story progresses, L.L. Collins unraveled these characters to expose vulnerabilities, insecurities, and fears that were surprisingly similar. Sam is dynamic in a way that lights up everything around her, while Ellis’ strong presence casts a shadow that can’t be ignored. Together they represented a perfect balance. Their different views of the world pushed them to evolve alongside each other into the best versions of themselves. I loved getting to know this couple and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing their journey right alongside them.

“He knew he would never be the same after this week. Meeting Samantha Kerrigan had changed his life, even if he never got to be with her again.”

Guarding Hearts is definitely an enthralling journey full of unexpected twists, hidden truths, and surprising pasts that came together to deliver something powerful. Guarding Hearts explores the challenges of overcoming the events of our youth and delivers a rather poignant message – the person we choose to become is far more important than who we were born. The emotional depth of this story touched me in unexpected ways. I swooned from the sweet romance, laughed at the witty banter, blushed my way through the steamy scenes, and even shed a few tears at some seriously heartbreaking moments. The secondary characters, both familiar and new faces, made Ellis and Sam’s world even more vibrant. They challenged Ellis and Sam to let go, give in to the magnetic pull, and follow their hearts, all while being unconditionally loving and supportive. I can’t wait for the next book in the series where I can once again revel in the comforting feeling this unconventional little family so easily delivers. L.L. Collins has written a story of loss, longing, and love that is undeniably sweet and absolutely captivating. Guarding Hearts is a great read!

Sentenced

Synopsis

THE BAD BOY: I’m Johnny. An ex-con with a bad attitude and a controlling demeanor that somehow made the women flock to my bed but never my heart. It was unavailable for possession.

THE TEMPTATION: She was just supposed to be a two day hookup. But one taste of her and I knew I was in danger of never getting enough. She has her own demons to contend with, and dealing with my own was hard enough. I won’t allow temptation to take control of me.

THE SENTENCE: I’d given myself a life sentence a long time ago, and she made me want things I wouldn’t allow myself to have. Giving into it just might destroy us both.

Review

Sentenced is a bit different from L.L. Collins’ usual style. There’s an edge to Johnny’s story that was both surprising and yet absolutely necessary to his character. Sentenced is rough, angsty, and filled with dark emotions and genuine hurt. This book tugged on my heartstrings from start to finish, drowning me in Johnny’s all-consuming presence. Together, Johnny and Bex define damaged and yet there is something so natural and beautiful between them that L.L. Collins has cultivated in the way in which only she can. In true L.L. Collins fashion, there are several surprises in store for readers as well as some familiar faces. I absolutely loved how much of Julia and Carter we got to see in this story, their happily ever after continuing to play out in parallel to Johnny and Bex’s heart-wrenching journey. I’m also totally intrigued by the new friends we got to meet along the way, namely Bex’s bandmates and Johnny’s friend, Cal. Johnny and Bex are truly one-of-a-kind and their story was just as unique and breathtaking.

“I had no idea who I was anymore, or where my life was going. I was physically free but still locked up in my own head. I didn’t think I’d ever be free from the bars around my heart, but at least I could now make my own decisions on what I did.”

These characters… just… gah! L.L. Collins has a true gift for creating characters that are lovable and relatable while maintaining the flaws and sometimes frustrating personality traits that make them feel so incredibly genuine. Bex is a dichotomy in and of herself. This no bullshit, unapologetic, badass rocker chick proved to harbor a broken, scared, and surprisingly vulnerable woman. The war being waged inside Bex between these two distinct sides of her was mesmerizing. I got lost in the pain, heartache, and fierce determination of this character until I found myself irrevocably connected to her. Where Bex was explosive with her emotions, Johnny was a steel trap. He frustrated me and pissed me off only to reveal a piece of himself that struck me hard. My heart hurt for him in ways I couldn’t have imagined as we learned everything that he had been through before and during his incarceration. Both of these damaged souls had a lot of room to grow and L.L. Collins took full advantage. Johnny and Bex both underwent significant emotional transformations during Sentenced that absolutely blew me away, keeping me invested in their journey until the end.

“I’m not looking to label us or be something we aren’t. Fuck, I’m a laundry list of issues I wouldn’t wish on anyone. There’s something more about you than just the most fantastic lay of my life. I think you know that, too. I’m not asking you to tell me your life story, Bex. Just be real.”

Johnny and Bex are a match made in hell, both repeatedly broken by their past demons and left with jagged edges that somehow fit together perfectly. As their personal stories came to light, this book dealt with some incredibly harsh realities and devastating emotions that I felt deep within me. L.L. Collins wrote these gut-wrenching situations with sensitivity and respect, capturing the darkness with an unparalleled poignancy. Together, Johnny and Bex created a lightness that balanced the raw emotional honesty powering their journey. Their attempts to keep each other at arm’s length resulted in a friction that was hot and often times hilarious. Their banter had me smirking while their shared stubbornness put them in some seriously heated situations. Sentenced was scorching in a way we have yet to see from L.L. Collins. She created a chemistry between these two that was utterly explosive and completely addictive. This book was worth every bit of angst and second of heartache and then some. L.L. Collins has outdone herself once again with this book. Sentenced is an absolute must read!

Excerpt

“I’m going to have her before they leave,” I said presumptuously.

I felt Cal looking at me. “Oh, boy.”

“What?”

“You haven’t read much about her, have you?”

That caught my attention. “What does that mean? Is she a lesbian or something?” That would abso-fucking-lutely kill me.

He cackled. “No, bro. She’s a ball buster, man. No one gives that woman shit. She has quite a reputation. She’s respected as hell, but no one crosses her.”

I scoffed. “We’ll see about that.” After all, she was a hot woman. She had to be used to being hit on. And she’d want to be hit on by me. Plus, I didn’t want anything from her other than her body. The nice part was, she was traveling after this. Maybe she’d end up in the Denver area or back here in Florida, and we could hook up again.

Cal whistled. “I want to be around when she cuts off your balls and shoves them in your mouth.”

I rolled my eyes. “She can’t be that bad. Look at her. She’s probably a hundred and twenty pounds soaking wet.”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Cal said. “I’m going to grab some more beer from the back.”

“Need help?” I didn’t say it convincingly, and he knew it.

“Nope. You stay here and daydream. That’s about all you’re going to get.”

“You watch and see,” I said. “She’ll come to me.”

Review

Back to the Drawing Board is a fun, flirty, standalone novel that will have you experiencing all the feels. Carter and Julia have something truly special and I enjoyed all of the ups and downs of their journey. One of the great things about this novel was that while it is definitely not necessary to read the Twisted Series before jumping into Carter’s story, for anyone who has read them there is a sense of coming home with Back to the Drawing Board. I got a deep satisfaction out of seeing Carter with his family and experiencing how their story effected his own. Putting these two stories in parallel felt like an expression of the timelessness of love. Julia and Carter’s story was the total package, making me laugh, keeping me guessing, and connecting me with the characters in unexpected ways. Once again, L.L. Collins has blown me away with her fantastic storytelling and the amount of heart she managed to infuse throughout this book.

“That was us. No alcohol, no barriers between us. Just us, acting on what we’re both trying to deny.”

Carter was a great character and right from the start I found myself invested in his growth. His family situation has shaped him in more ways than one and as he ventures out on his own, Carter struggles to reconcile the life he had growing up with the life he wants. L.L. Collins did a great job at allowing Carter to develop slowly and naturally, peeling back the various layers of his complex personality to expose his conflicting emotions. Underneath the confident, intelligent, and professional mask lies a genuine vulnerability that had him stealing my heart in no time. He certainly met his match in Julia and I absolutely loved her. Her own struggle to define life on her own terms allowed for some significant character development. L.L. Collins challenged and pushed Julia, while allowing her inner strength to shine through. The more time she spent fighting for Carter, the bolder she became in the rest of her life, resulting in a newfound confidence that was utterly captivating.

“But now, the reality of loving you and wanting to be with you, is way beyond what I could’ve imagined. I didn’t know I wanted it, needed it. But I do. I need you, not just anyone.”

Back to the Drawing Board had a great storyline, balancing angst and emotion with humor and steam. Both Carter and Julia face personal journeys where they must decide what they want out of life and what kind of person they strive to be. L.L. Collins juxtaposes their individual stories, exposing the challenges they face as a couple. The differences in their journeys kept things interesting, while the similarities stirred up some intense emotional moments. The relationship that developed between these two felt genuine as they shared their worlds with each other, introducing one another to their friends, family, hobbies, etc. The chemistry between Carter and Julia was undeniable and from the moment they met there was an energy between them that made this story vibrate with lust and love. Back to the Drawing Board is an addictive standalone novel that will make you feel and wish for more.

Excerpt

“Let’s play a game,” I said, breaking the silence. “A quick one. We’re only a few minutes away from the restaurant.”

“Never Have I Ever again?”

“Nope. Let’s do a short version of Twenty Questions. Like, two questions. We can resume later.”

“Tell me the rules.”

“We get to ask each other any two questions, and we have to answer them.”

Carter cleared his throat, looking over at me. “Sounds…interesting.”

“You start,” I said. I wanted him to get personal.

“You’re putting me on the spot,” he laughed.

“That’s the point.”

“Okay….have you had a serious boyfriend before?”

I furrowed my brow. That’s what he wanted to know? “Yes. In high school. We broke up after our first year of college and I haven’t talked to him since. His name was Scott.”

A look I didn’t understand passed over his face. “He was your only boyfriend? Like, ever?”

“That’s what you want for your second question? It’ll be my turn next.”

He nodded, so I continued. “He’s been the only…serious boyfriend. Since him, I frankly haven’t had the time or the desire to have a boyfriend. I’ve gone out with guys, but that’s it. Nothing serious.” I didn’t think I wanted to get into the details of all of that, so I was glad it was his last question.

“My turn. First, where did you get this hot car?”

He laughed. “My dad and I restored it. It’s a ’69 Camaro SS. It took us most of the last few years to perfect it. He’s a mechanic, and I didn’t grow up knowing anything at all about cars, so it was a great way for us to bond. I found out that I love restoring old cars, and driving them. And having hot girls in them.” He wiggled his eyebrows at me, and we both laughed. I loved that he was lightening up with me. Now it was time to get more serious.

“Okay, my next question is…if you could remember one thing about that night that we can’t remember, what would it be and why?”

Carter coughed. “Whoa,” he said. “You don’t mess around.” We hadn’t discussed ‘that night’ since right after we both realized we couldn’t remember. “I…Julia. Wow. I’m not sure how to answer that.”

“Truthfully,” I said. I loved making him uncomfortable.

“I wish I could remember touching you,” he said, the deepness of his voice tickling all through my body. “Everywhere.” It felt like he just had touched me, everywhere. I squirmed in my seat, almost wishing I hadn’t asked. Now I really wanted to attack him.

When I didn’t answer, he looked over at me. I smiled, reaching out and touching the scruff on his face, my favorite thing to do. “Wow is right,” I said quietly. “I wish I could remember that, too.” We looked at each other until the car behind us honked their horn.

Twisted Paths_1

Review

I could not have been more impatient while waiting for this book. L.L. Collins left my heart broken and bruised at the end of Twisted Souls and I desperately needed to hear the rest of this story. My head was swimming with questions and I had to have more Liane and Blake! Twisted Paths was everything I hoped for and so much more. L.L. Collins did an incredible job with this story, taking me on an emotional and heart wrenching journey with her words. I experienced so many feelings that for a moment I was sure my chest would burst before the book was done. L.L. Collins has truly outdone herself with this complicated story that unravels to reveal truths you should have seen coming since the first book. She expertly hid each and every piece of the puzzle, until you can’t believe you hadn’t already figured out how this story would end.

“She had been the reason why I could never fall in love. Not the right way. Not the everlasting way. That love was born with Liane Kelly and died the day she became Liane Collier. That was the day I became a shell of the person I used to be.”

Li and Blake are all grown-up and they live with the scars of their pasts. L.L. Collins transformed these characters so completely from the first book that I was stunned. Gone were the young, carefree teenagers of Twisted Souls, leaving readers with characters that had been disappointed by the direction of their lives and jaded by circumstance. Li and Blake were both clear reflections of the paths they’d traveled down over the past 18 years and it absolutely broke my heart. There was also an incredible growth that was evident as the story progressed and Li and Blake learned to define their own fate. I’ll never get tired of L.L. Collins’ characters. She gives them so much depth and personality that they feel like someone you’ve known forever. The flame between Li and Blake proves to never have extinguished, burning quietly over the years, waiting for that small drop of gasoline to provide permission to rage in all its fiery glory.

“He closes his eyes but doesn’t say a word. I can understand him wanting to shut out the world, because that’s sometimes the only thing we can do to try to survive what’s happening.”

In some ways, Twisted Paths was easier on my heart than Twisted Souls, while in others it managed to cut me even deeper. While I was relieved that Liane finally saw Ronan for who he really was, I was also concerned by the added adult complications of established families, jobs, and homes. There were moments while reading where I could feel the butterflies building in my stomach as the love between Li and Blake radiated off of the page. Tears found me when their lives began to unravel and my heart hurt every time another lie was exposed. Somewhere along the way L.L. Collins’ characters had managed to infiltrate my heart and claim a piece of it. The writing in Twisted Paths absolutely consumed me until I was drowning in Li and Blake’s world. L.L. Collins has a talent that is captivating and seriously magical. I already miss this remarkable couple. Twisted Paths is the perfect companion to Twisted Souls and you definitely won’t want to miss it.

Twisted Souls_4

Review

Twisted Souls is the perfect name for this book. This story left me utterly speechless, emotionally devastated, and absolutely heartbroken. Even knowing that the second book is in the works, I have a hard time wrapping my head around this one. It was such an incredible ride and I know I’ll be feeling the effects of this book for a while. L.L. Collins has outdone herself with Twisted Souls. She has created characters so full of life that I couldn’t help but find myself completely invested in their happily ever afters. The journey that has only just begun is fraught with the unexpected intervention of fate and the devious handiwork of young adults, resulting in a world that is in constant flux. This gut-wrenching journey made me smile and fall in love before turning around and stealing my breath and making me cry. It was truly the complete package.

“I want to be your everything, Liane Kelly. It started for me over four years ago, and has only gotten stronger since. When I see you, it’s like my life is complete and everything is right in the world. You put my world back on its axis, Li.”

I am addicted to Blake and Li! Liane and Blake have a friendship that runs true and deep creating a love that is simply haunting. Their connection was palpable in every aspect of this book, even when the scene had nothing to do with the two of them. I quickly became obsessed with Blake and Li and I was invested in them and their complicated relationship absolutely. Ronan on the other hand had me fuming. The moments where I felt sympathy for him were quickly squashed by his obnoxious behavior and the nuances of his personality that just absolutely infuriated me. I have to give L.L. Collins credit for making me feel such intense dislike for a character. I could imagine Liane’s confusion at the situation she found herself in and the warring emotions that must have been incredibly overwhelming.

“You deserve someone who lives and breathes for you and you alone.”

The storyline is absolutely gripping. Once I got started I couldn’t put it down. I had to know where all the twists and turns were leading. To be honest, I definitely couldn’t have called how things were going to leave off at the end of Twisted Souls. The pacing of this book was spot on, leading me through the moments of calm and allowing me to appreciate the evolving relationships before throwing me headfirst into the fire and stirring up my emotions. I knew this would not be the end of Liane’s story so I didn’t expect a HEA, but what the hell? L.L. Collins left me stunned by the ending to this book and I’m dying to get my hands on the next part of this story. I just know she’s going to wreck me all over again. If you adore angsty love stories and unexpected journeys then Twisted Souls is definitely the book for you!

Reaching Rachel_1

Review

Reaching Rachel was an absolutely fantastic addition to the Living Again series and once again L.L. Collins has managed to emotionally steamroll me. Rachel’s story is gut-wrenching and raw, dealing with difficult realities and the struggle to survive in the aftermath. It is becoming increasingly apparent that L.L. Collins strives to make her readers ugly cry with each and every tortured word. The fantastic character development and turbulent storyline delivered a journey that hit me hard, right in the heart. This book made me think and dream and feel, all of the things I hope for in a romance. I was immediately captivated by the flawed characters I could easily relate to and it took no time at all for me to find myself thoroughly invested in their happily ever after. While just as emotionally powerful, Reaching Rachel had an entirely different feel than Living Again, which allowed me to completely appreciate L.L.’s talent for unique, heartbreaking, and hopeful stories.

“He gave his heart to you all those years ago, and you still have it.”

Rachel is an unquestionably genuine character that had me on her side within minutes of beginning her story. There was a false confidence and an honest fragility about her that drew me in and kept me on edge while I waited for her story to play out. Rachel’s fear and vulnerability was so tangible that my heart ached for her every time she was faced with another reminder of her traumatic past. On the other hand, every bit of strength she demonstrated lightened my heart and made me proud of the growth L.L. Collins was demonstrating with this character. Devin might be one of my favorite BBFs of all time. His protective nature and total devotion to Rachel was enough to make me melt, but then we see the cracks in his armor, how afraid he is to lose Rachel, how helpless he feels when he can’t protect her from outside forces, and he turned me into a puddle. I love when an author isn’t afraid to expose the weaknesses of their male characters. It gives them an authenticity you can’t help but fall for.

“Are we going to spend the rest of our lives talking about what could’ve been, or are we going to live together the way we should’ve always, because we love each other now?”

I was greatly intrigued by Rachel when we first met her in Living Again, but I could not have prepared myself for the heartbreaking story that would unfold in Reaching Rachel. L.L. Collins really tugged at my heartstrings with this one. If there is one thing L.L. has perfected, it is bringing her characters emotions to life. I could feel every moment of sadness and regret that Rachel experienced but I also sensed how overwhelmingly haunted this young woman was by her past. I connected with her pain and felt the emotional weight of her story. I was completely consumed by this book, completely immersed in every high and low of Rachel and Devin’s journey. L.L. Collins has once again proven her incredible gift for bringing broken and damaged characters to life and forging a meaningful connection between them and her readers. I can only imagine what ugly-cry-inducing story L.L. has in store for us next in this series!
