Kink the Halls

Synopsis

’Tis the Season for an inappropriate Christmas tale!

Seven and Levi are celebrating their first holiday together.
Star is pretending to be domesticated.
And siblings are banging each other.

Seriously, what more do you expect from the Seven James-Parker/Star Bloom crew?

One thing is for sure, this is a Christmas no one will be forgetting anytime soon!

Review

This was a fun and steam-filled novella featuring the whole crew. Seven and Levi head to Star’s place to spend Christmas with Star, Chrome, Maggie, Paisley and River. Seven is adapting to pregnancy and trying to deal with an incredibly overprotective Levi. Star decides to play matchmaker with Paisley and Chrome is on a mission all his own. This novella was hilarious. In the spirit of the holidays this story was filled with awkward moments and misunderstandings. No one can stress you out over a holiday quite like family can and that is exactly the feeling I got while reading this story. I loved seeing Maggie and Star now that some time has passed and they’ve been together longer. We finally learn a little bit more about Paisley and I have to say, I can’t wait to read her story because that girl’s mind is a mystery to me. River still makes me swoon and Chrome is his usual alpha-perfection. In true Dawn Robertson fashion there are sexy times for everybody! I enjoyed seeing everyone back in one place and we got some great story points to roll with in the future. Dawn did a great job keeping this chaotic crew frustrating, dirty, loveable and funny all while making you feel like you’re part of the family!

Review

Finding Willow is Star’s story. After the huge bomb Star drops on Seven at the end of Hers, she is determined to fight for the life she should have had, the family that is rightfully hers. Star decides it is time to walk away from the life of sex and drugs that has been her world and head back to her hometown in search of the life she really wants. She finally acknowledges her need to be strong, to stand on her own two feet and to stop relying on Seven to save her.

“This is how our relationship has always been, and will always be. She is the protector. I am the victim. She is strong. I am weak. She is fucking badass. I am an epic coward.”

I will admit, I did not like Star in Hers. Not even a little bit. I thought she was selfish and downright irritating. I couldn’t understand why Seven was still friends with her after everything that had happened between them. Finding Willow completely changed my mind about Star. Dawn did an amazing job developing this character and revealing her to us over the course of the story. It is not an easy task to make someone completely change their mind about a character, but Dawn does it skillfully. Every piece of Star’s past that is revealed brought me more understanding and appreciation for her behavior and with each new layer of her life that is revealed, I connected with her a little more. To be honest, by the time I had finished Finding Willow I liked Star more than I liked Seven. Star was broken, dirty and unapologetic about who she is and what she’d done. She was fierce and vulnerable and an overall beautiful character.

“Over and over again, I wish away everything I never want again. I will get healthy. I will re-claim my life. I will be everything I never thought I could be. And I will do it all on my own.”

Of course, this wouldn’t be a Dawn Robertson book without some serious steam. Meet Chrome. Chrome rides into Stars life and makes her feel, makes her question the need to always do everything on her own. He was a delicious addition to the storyline, helping Star realize exactly who she is and what she is capable of just in time for her to fight to get her life back. I really loved Star’s story. I loved watching her grow and learn to let go of the mask she’d been hiding behind for so long. I hope there is more of Star and Chrome in the future!

REVIEW – Hers by Dawn Robertson

Title: Hers

Hers

Synopsis

I am weak.
I am lonely.
I am a slut.
I am strong.
I am Dominant.
I am independent.
I am Seven James.

My entire life, no one has wanted me, and that was fine, because I sure as shit didn’t need anyone else. Blah, Blah Blah, insert sad story here about negligent parents, and shitty siblings, and you have my life story in a nut shell. When my college boyfriend dumped me, it was just icing on the cake. Five years, and a booming career later I am here to collect my revenge.

That was until a delicious plaything walked into the kink club I frequent, and rocked my typically un-rockable world. Causing me to break the one rule I have lived by since Daniel Alexander walked out of my life, never have sex with the same person twice. Ever.

Warning!!!! Hers contains sexually explicit situations that may be uncomfortable for some. These include FF, FMF, and MFM interactions.

Review

Hers is the first book I read by Dawn Robertson and I really enjoyed reading this series. Hers is Seven’s story. Seven has had her heart broken. So she builds a wall around herself that would require heavy machinery to bring down. She is independent and always in control. She won’t let anyone break her again. Her need for control extends into every aspect of her life and it definitely takes her to some interesting places. Then she meets Levi and, as in all good romances, she suddenly has no idea what she is doing. Everything about these two is sexy from the moment they meet. The chemistry between them is absolutely electric and it makes for a fantastic dynamic throughout the story.

“And like that, his back to me, and he is walking out of my door. Ninja-mind-fucking me again, something he is becoming particularly good at.”

I thought this story was just the right amount of steam. The characters were all full of potential and certainly intriguing. Seven is a force all her own. I enjoyed watching her lose some control to Levi. Her confusion at how much she liked letting him take the reigns sometimes felt so natural and genuine. There were moments when Levi seemed inconsistent, wavering between letting Seven dominate and wanting to exert his inner alpha male. I usually prefer my book boyfriends to be a little more decisive. Don’t get me wrong, I thought his character was hot and often times unexpectedly romantic. He definitely has that swoon-worthy quality.

“Seven, when you walked into that boardroom this morning, my entire world shattered into a thousand pieces.”

The secondary characters really added a lot to this story. Their personalities made this book all the more vibrant and I’m really looking forward to hearing their stories in the future. Dawn Robertson definitely knows how to make me chuckle. This story was witty and colorful. I loved the dialogue. The characters definitely knew what to say to get the other riled up. Their relationship was always interesting and I can’t say there was ever a dull moment. If you’re looking for something a little filthy and fun with moments of emotional turmoil, Hers is a story that will heat things up, have you feeling, and make you laugh.
