RELEASE DAY REVIEW – Double Down by Alessandra Torre

Title – Double Down
Author – Alessandra Torre
Publication Date – June 18, 2018
Series – All In #2

The stunning conclusion to the All In Duet…
In Vegas, there was one man who was off limits. One man… and I fell for him.

I knew there were risks. Still, I played the game. When Dario Capece called, I answered. When he beckoned, I came. When he broke all my rules, I looked the other way.

I knew there were risks. I just never realized they included death.

Alessandra Torre has left my head spinning with her newest release! Double Down is packed full with action that will have readers’ jaws dropping and their hearts racing. I will say that Dario and Bell do spend a portion of the novel apart.  Ironically, it was in those moments that I actually developed a deeper understanding of the feelings they had for one another. Where I couldn’t see this in the first book of the duet, it became glaringly obvious why these two would gamble with such high stakes on the table. The consequences of their relationship were so far-reaching and I often wondered just how far they would seep. I have to say that I did enjoy Double Down slightly more than Even Money. Though there was still some slight confusion with the switching of perspectives, I was so deeply entrenched in the action of the plot that it didn’t bother me as much as previously. Alessandra Torre somehow continues to surprise me and make me yearn for more with each new book she releases. She’s become an automatic one-click author for me and I definitely don’t see that changing anytime in the near future!

RELEASE DAY REVIEW – Even Money by Alessandra Torre

Title – Even Money
Author – Alessandra Torre
Publication Date – June 4, 2018
Series – All In Duet #1

From NYT Bestseller Alessandra Torre comes a suspenseful and seductive duet…

Sometimes it only takes a minute. A connection of eyes across a room, a quickened heartbeat, and everything changes.

I was a cocktail waitress with a fondness for partying and meaningless hook-ups.

He owned half of Vegas, with the reputation to match.

I should have turned away. Instead, I stepped closer.

Then, the lies started. Rumors spread. Stalking commenced. Someone died.

None of it stopped me from falling in love.

Alessandra Torre is, without a doubt, the queen of writing suspense. She somehow manages to reel me in and keep me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end – no matter which book of hers that I dive into. Her newest release, Even Money, had me giddy with anticipation of what was to come. Bell and Dario had quite the interesting dynamic to their relationship. There was certainly an insta-love feel, and at times I felt a little off balance when it came to how quickly they were able to fall for each other. However, there was also something extremely likeable about both of these characters. Bell was staunchly independent while Dario sought to deliver revenge and protect those he cared about. They both piqued my interests and kept me turning the pages to see how things would play out for them. While the writing was addictive, with twists and turns that I certainly never saw coming, there is a back and forth point of view that left me slightly taken aback. While Bell’s point of view is written in the first person, Dario’s chapters are written in the third person perspective. It made it incredibly difficult to fully immerse myself into the story, and I was unable to see a purpose for the switch. In the heart of Las Vegas, Even Money is filled with deception, sex, and secrets. That cliffhanger left me with my jaw on the floor and eyes gaped wide. I’m grateful we only have a couple weeks to find out just where Bell and Dario’s romance will end up!

RELEASE DAY BLITZ – Love in Lingerie by Alessandra Torre

Author – Alessandra Torre
Publication Date – January 16, 2017

love-in-lingerie

Synopsis

I hired her to fix my company, to bring Marks Lingerie back to life. I didn’t expect her to become my friend. I didn’t expect to fall in love with her.

The first rule of business is to never touch your employees. I think there is another rule about not falling for your best friend—a rule against imagining the curves of her body, or the way her breathing would change if I pulled down her panties and unzipped my pants.

Now, I can’t wait any longer. I’m tossing out the rules.

Damn the company.
Damn our friendship.
Damn my fears.

love-in-lingerie3

Review

Alessandra Torre has proven to be that sweet tooth item you crave, but didn’t think you needed. However, after it’s consumed, you realize that it hits the spot in the perfect way and maybe your body did require it. Once again, Torre has hit it out of the park and was just what I wanted to get lost in. Love in Lingerie was the perfect combination of sweet and sultry blended with sexy anticipation. Kate and Trey have such a unique relationship and it was so much fun to watch that come across the pages.

“It’s as simple as that. But nothing is ever simple, not when it involves the two of us.”

These two became fast friends and I honestly loved drowning in it. They were flirtatious, yet cautious given the business side of their relationship. However, it warmed my heart whenever they referred to each other as best friends. Though the sexual tension could be felt sizzling from the pages, there was such a sweet build of that angst that I couldn’t help but be on the edge of my seat, waiting for the explosion. Their banter always seemed to be on point – whether it was about relationships or the lingerie – and their voices took me on a ride that I never wanted to get off of.

“When a kiss waits for a thousand days, it erupts like a cyclone—a slow unfurling of lips, of tongues, hands ripping, clothes flying, hot swirls of breath met with a clash of frantic desire.”

Love in Lingerie is written in dual points of view from both of the main characters and I was SO beyond grateful. Those inner thoughts and feelings were so instrumental to my overall connection to the story. Given how much they were denying their feelings and not allowing themselves to give in, it was those moments that I found to be pivotal to see how Kate and Trey got from point A to point B.

“If our love was lingerie, it’d be a corset, one laced so tightly that it takes your breath.”

If there is one thing I have come to depend on, it’s the fact that Alessandra Torre doesn’t ever disappoint. Whether she is writing a book with insane twists or a sweet love story, she forces you to fall in love with her characters in the best way possible. Love in Lingerie may not surprise you around every corner, but the angst and relationship will keep you turning page after page. Torre excels in whatever she chooses to write, but the addictive romances like this one are most certainly not to miss!

REVIEW – Mrs. Dumont by Alessandra Torre

mrs-dumont-banner

Title: Mrs. Dumont
Author: Alessandra Torre
Release Date: September 4, 2013

mrs-dumont

Synopsis

I wanted the fairytale: a gorgeous man who screwed as well as he provided. I met Nathan Dumont – then scampered off to his mansion without hesitation. He proposed with a contract, I signed with a smile.

Goodbye, stripper pole. Hello, life of luxury.

Too bad my new husband had secrets.
Too bad he had plans for me that I had no idea about.
Too bad my heart didn’t understand contracts and red flags in its plummet toward love.

Bs Review

Mrs. Dumont is a sizzling hot story with just enough sass and sweetness to make it the total package. A quick and engaging read, Alessandra Torre keeps readers guessing with Nathan and Candy’s story. Despite being initially written as a serial of novellas, the storyline flowed fairly smoothly, each chapter eagerly sweeping me into the next until I found myself having devoured the entire book. My favorite thing about Mrs. Dumont was the incredible chemistry that Alessandra Torre has crafted between the hero and heroine. From their first scene together, this couple shared an electric connection that begged to be explored. I loved the passion and inexplicable pull that obviously fueled Nathan and Candy’s story, their scorching encounters, feisty exchanges, and easy connection setting the pages of this novel on fire. There was also a surprising amount of raw emotion that accompanied the couple’s unexpected journey and it only served to make the book that much more enticing.

“BlueEyes is too young to be my love story, too handsome, too perfect to have any part in the rest of my life.”

I really enjoyed getting to know the two very different main characters that Alessandra Torre has written with Nathan and Candy. Nathan was an enigma; his motives for seeking out Candy very much a mystery. It was this intrigue that kept me reading, anxious to unravel the deliciously brooding hero. Alessandra did a fantastic job at slowly revealing the truth about Nathan, his personality and surprising sweetness slowly coming to light over the course of the story. However, I definitely would have liked a more in depth exploration of this character and his history in order to really understand the eventual outcome of the book. Initially, Candy didn’t seem like the kind of heroine I would be able to connect with, but as her story progressed, I found myself feeling for her in significant ways. Her strength, independence, and willingness to do whatever it takes to care for her father won my heart over. I also loved seeing her confidence build the more time she spent with Nathan. Her realization of her self-worth was inspiring and by the time the last page had been turned I was definitely a fan of this feisty, fearless woman.

“I am a boat out on a deep blue ocean. And there is no one for miles, no one to rescue me.”

There were a few holes in the storyline that kept me from completely losing myself to Nathan and Candy’s story – pieces of their individual histories that kept me from fully appreciating the decisions they made and the paths they chose. For example, Nathan’s relationship with Cecile seemed so superficial that I couldn’t understand his supposed deep connection to her, especially after what she did to him. The series of events that led to Nathan’s employment of Drew was also a little confusing and in general Drew’s overall role in the story seemed a bit unnecessary and the lack of resolution concerning him left me frustrated. That being said, I did enjoy this storyline as a whole. Alessandra Torre’s writing was polished and filled with emotion, relaying the story in a captivating manner that demanded my complete attention. Vibrant imagery, fascinating characters, and plenty of twists and turns ensured my investment in Nathan and Candy’s unconventional journey. Mrs. Dumont is a quick, sexy read that will keep you on your toes and leave you wanting more from the fabulous Alessandra Torre.

Cs Review

Turning that last page of Mrs. Dumont left me with such a bittersweet feeling; it was the last novel from Alessandra Torre on my list before I’d be done with her backlist, and now I must wait for more just like everyone else. Mrs. Dumont impressed me with its romance and lust, unending suspense, and the all-around steam factor. Once again, this author hasn’t disappointed in the delivery of a fantastic read.

“My heart, like the rest of my body, doesn’t like to follow rules.”

Nathan and Candy were such an oddity when it came to their pairing. They were opposites in every sense of the word, yet their chemistry was out of this world. At times, I wanted to feel more of that attraction without the lust factor, especially because Torre would briefly touch upon those instances but never in detail. However, I did love how strong-headed and steadfast both of their personalities were. They each had a likeability to them that I couldn’t easily discount, even in the moments of wishing for further development. There were also a couple plot lines left a bit too open for my taste and some questions that went unanswered. Given that this was one of Torre’s earlier novels, and I know what she is capable of, I think I expected a deeper connection. However, that is not to say that I didn’t completely enjoy this novel.

“His looks are my weakness, his mind my undoing.”

Whenever I jump into a Torre book, I never know what I’m going to get. Whether it’s the first she’s written or it’s the last, there is always something that keeps me on the edge of my seat. Mrs. Dumont was certainly no exception and left me guessing what she’d pull out of her sleeve. Whenever I thought I had everything figured out, she would throw a curveball and surprise me time and time again. I have to say that I’m super glad I picked this up and finally read it. Mrs. Dumont was the perfect read to get me out of my rut and forget the real-world for a couple of hours. I wish that I could read all of Alessandra Torre’s books for the first time because they are just that good, but instead I shall be waiting for the next hit with everyone else!

RELEASE DAY REVIEW – Moonshot by Alessandra Torre

Title – Moonshot

Moonshot

Synopsis

Baseball wasn’t supposed to be a game of life and death…

The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game. Chase … he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.

I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.

Then, the team started losing.

Women started dying.

And everything in my world broke apart.

Moonshot 1

Review

Have you ever thrown names into a hat, to then reach in blindly and choose a winner? Well, every time I pick up an Alessandra Torre book, that is exactly what I feel like I’m doing. I’ll never know what genre I’ll choose, or what setting I’ll be taken to, what the characters’ personalities will be like, etc. This author has proven time and time again that she has so many surprises up her sleeve. I can’t help but come back for more whenever I hear that she’ll be releasing a new novel. Her latest creation, Moonshot, was addicting, sexy, and so intriguing; I simply couldn’t put it down!

“There was right, there was wrong, and there was love. And love trumped it all.”

I don’t know how Torre is able to consistently develop unique, refreshing storylines, but I find that no two couples of hers are ever really alike. I could see so much of myself in Ty that I took an instant liking to her. She was almost this “tomboy” who grew up around the New York Yankees since a very young age. I loved that she found camaraderie and family within the team. Rather than presenting her as bitter or troubled by the experience, Torre made readers sympathize with her and fall in love with the sound of a bat cracking and the smell of peanuts in the air right alongside her. I appreciated being able to see her grow and mature, but never truly letting go of the pieces of herself that made her Ty. Chase was your quintessential bad boy and baseball player all rolled into one. He knew that he was successful and used it to his full advantage. However, there were times when he was with Ty that you could see a deeper side of him, and it was in those moments that I found myself swooning. We don’t get much of his side of things, but I loved what they were able to bring out in each other, and it was for that reason that I yearned for them to end up together.

“Men had been killed over kisses like that. Careers had been lost. Hearts had been stolen.”

As a huge fan of baseball (and a believer of “The Curse”), I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from beginning to end. However, I think that there’s also enough outside the sports setting that people who have a dislike of the setting will still find it enjoyable. Torre’s writing is gripping and suspenseful, dropping morsels throughout, but never giving readers that full big picture until the end. Honestly, and even then, I was thrown for a loop. This author can write some steamy, sexy romance, but her thrilling and mysterious style is what intrigues me the most. It’s absolute perfection the way that she can weave these elements together to deliver an unforgettable novel.

“First loves were supposed to be flimsy and temperamental. They were supposed to burn bright and fade fast. They weren’t supposed to stick.”

I really needed a slam into me, make me giggle and swoon, angsty type of read, and I have to say that Alessandra Torre hit it out of the park; Moonshot was exactly what the doctor prescribed. If you’re looking for a summer read that will transport you to those nights on the ball field, or a nostalgic look back on first love, I highly suggest checking this book out. You certainly won’t regret it, especially after that perfection of an Epilogue!

RELEASE DAY BLITZ – Love, Chloe by Alessandra Torre

LIVE

Title – Love, Chloe
Author – Alessandra Torre
Release Date – March 14, 2016
Stand-Alone Novel

Love Chloe

Synopsis

Chloe Madison. That’s me. A former NYU princess who fell from grace, right off my pampered Manhattan throne and onto the unforgiving steps of Nicole Brantley, socialite and queen bitch. Now, I walked her dog and mixed her smoothies. Tried to navigate my own problems while fixing all of hers.

I wanted what every New York girl did. A career, an apartment, and true love, preferably in a smoking hot package.

It turned out … I’d have to fight for all of it.

Love Chloe 2

Review

I have seen Alessandra Torre write sweet, romance, suspense, twisted, dark, etc. Basically, you name it and she’s tackled it.  She has a propensity for delivering incredible stories no matter what genre you place her in. I had followed the Love, Chloe serial every week on Cosmopolitan; it was just too addictive not to. Needless to say, when she announced that she’d be turning it into a full-length novel, I did a little jump for joy!

“…there’s a part of her that’s broken. But that doesn’t mean that she isn’t worthy of being loved. Everyone is worthy of that.”

Love, Chloe chronicles the fall from grace of a New York socialite, but in such a fun way. She is left to navigate what is essentially a whole new world for her, having to earn her way and everything she wants. She is faced with choices that end up testing her character, leading her to discover who it is she wants to become. Torre has essentially written a new adult romance, but with a fresh twist on it. There’s no anxious drama pulling you up and down on a roller coaster; just an entertaining piece that will leave readers giggling and dying to see where Chloe ends up.

“Better to risk my safety on a dim New York street than my heart to a blue-collar stranger.”

I normally don’t touch on the formatting in my reviews, but I just had to mention it for this one! Torre has provided such a cute surprise that had me anticipating the next delicious morsel. It was the perfect example of how the author likes to keep her readers on their toes, giving them something to delight in – other than the story at face value. Not only did it feel appropriate to the characters, but it is also so pertinent for the times we live in.

“Love was what got me into trouble in the first place. Love should be less stubborn. It should listen to red flags and reason. It should learn from past mistakes and guard itself from future ones.”

Love, Chloe is a sweet, sometimes hot, novel that I found myself stealing moments to get lost in. The chapters were short which allowed them to roll into one another and before long, the rest of the world just faded away. I appreciated the cleansing read where I wasn’t waiting for the other shoe to drop, or some big twist that would gut me. It had elements of a romance, but I think my favorite part was seeing the transformation of the heroine. Sometimes, we all need to put ourselves first and it was refreshing to see Chloe find that. I have no doubt that readers will fall in love with Chloe Madison’s journey, and I’m certainly looking forward to the next characters Alessandra Torre introduces us to!

NEW RELEASE REVIEW – If You Dare by Alessandra Torre

If You Dare

Title – If You Dare
Author – Alessandra Torre
Publication Date – November 10, 2015
Series – Deanna Madden, #3

If You Dare

Synopsis

Equal parts Dexter and 50 Shades, this is the eagerly awaited new novel from A. R. Torre, author of the award winning erotic thriller, The Girl in 6E.

The rules are the same. I can’t open the door. I can’t leave. I can’t kill anyone.

The only difference is, I don’t set the rules anymore. Guards in grey uniforms do. It is everything I never wanted and everything I always deserved. I write to you now, from a prison cell. My home for the next twenty to thirty years.

That’s the going term for murder.

If You Dare 2

Review

I’ve been staring at my computer screen for some time now trying to figure out exactly how to describe how I felt about If You Dare by Alessandra Torre. It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of this author’s writing; she has set the bar extremely high. That being said, I did like If You Dare, but I just didn’t enjoy this third installment of the series as much as I had hoped and expected to.

“I needed my four walls. My prison. My solitude.”

Deanna is still the crazed heroine that readers have come to know, probably even more so than usual. Her motivation to kill continues to be “Dexter-like”, but in a completely different way here. She is still very much the character that you can’t help but love, no matter how twisted she may be. Jeremy maintains that protective, eager hero complex; someone who wants to see the best in his partner, which I love. His qualities provide a little bit of sanity in an environment filled with abnormal urges and bits of chaos. I’ve wanted more from the other reoccurring roles in Deanna’s life, and If You Dare did quench a morsel of that thirst. It’s so hard to touch upon the plot or the characters without giving away spoilers, so I apologize for being somewhat vague.

“Power. I sometimes wonder if it is that, more than the blood, that I crave.”

While I felt that the writing was superb and the characters stayed true to the way Torre has molded them, the storyline fell somewhat flat for me. The aspects that held a lot of the appeal in the first book of the series seemed to be lost in If You Dare. It didn’t feel like Deanna was fighting her urges, nor was she ever locked away for an ample amount of time. Without that angle, it just didn’t have as big of an impact as the previous books in the series for me. Furthermore, the story is written in third person, which isn’t a bad thing, but with the switching of present and past time periods, it could sometimes get confusing. There were multiple instances where I had to stop and reread in order to understand whose eyes we were looking through. Finally, the ending also seemed quite abrupt. There was a lot of back and forth in the beginning to lead up to what felt like would be a big, exploding moment, and then it felt rushed. All of the heart-pumping action occurred in the last quarter of the book, and given the pace of the first two in the series, I expected it to be spread out more.

“I could play the part. I could walk the walk. I just didn’t know how to make it stick.”

Torre left the ending incredibly open, with some loose ties that I wish would have had some more of a solid resolution. Though I understood the purpose of leaving Deanna’s the way she did, there were a few other characters who were vital to If You Dare that didn’t feel even satisfactorily tied up. I think that some readers will absolutely love this installment of the Deanna Madden series, it just made me wish for more from Torre. If she decides to write another book about these characters, I would still absolutely dive into it.

Standalone Novel

Hollywood Dirt

Synopsis

Cole Masten. Abandoned by his superstar wife, Hollywood’s Perfect Husband is now Hollywood’s Sexiest Bachelor: partying hard and screwing even harder. Watch out Los Angeles, there’s a new bad boy in town.

Summer Jenkins. That’s me, a small town girl stuck in Quincy, Georgia. I cook some mean chicken and dumplins, can bluff a grown man out of his savings in poker, and was voted Most Friendly my senior year.

We were from different worlds. Our lives shouldn’t have collided. But then Cole Masten read a book about my small town. And six months later, his jet landed on our dusty airstrip, and he brought Hollywood with him.

From the start, I knew he was trouble. For our town. And for me.

Sometimes, opposites just aren’t meant to attract..

Hollywood Dirt 3

Review

Hollywood Dirt is described as an actor romance, but I honestly felt like there was so much more to it. Alessandra Torre certainly has a way with making her characters stand out, and delivering exactly what readers want in a plot line without being repetitive of what is already out there. I was incredibly captivated by this story, which led to a very easy understanding of the characters’ feelings and motivations.

“I was engaged once. Three years ago. I thought I was in love.”

While Summer embodied so much of the stereotypical Southern woman, many of her own personality traits went against those same conventional images. She was strong-headed, independent, and certainly not afraid to voice her own opinion. Nobody could force Summer to do something she didn’t want to, but she could easily charm you to think it was your own idea. When I initially encountered Cole, I developed a soft spot for him because of the situation he was put in. After some time, I started to become very torn. There were moments I wanted to feel sorry for him, others I wanted to slap him, and then there were a few moments where I could see underneath the mask he portrayed to the world. Together, these two personified the saying “opposites attract”. Their sexual tension oozed through the pages, and their heat sent those same pages up in flame.

“But love shouldn’t hurt, shouldn’t dig through your chest, carve out your heart, and serve it like a meal.”

There was something about Hollywood Dirt that just worked. In so many romances that involve a careers, i.e. acting, there isn’t enough of that present so it feels more like a setting than a piece of the story. However, Torre did a great job of really including scenes and making it an integral part of the story.  Watching the Southern culture come to life was also quite interesting for this city girl – especially when it was Summer teaching Cole. I did sort of feel like the ending crept up on us, so I would have liked to see a bit more of the aftermath of the film being created. However, the character transformations and the romance was so on point and perfect.

“Or maybe it only hurts when it’s real. Maybe when breakups didn’t hurt – that was when you knew the love was false.”

Overall, I was super impressed with Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre. There was no giant plot twist that people have come to expect from her, but there was still that Torre signature. There were a couple surprises that made me, as a longtime fan, smile and giggle. It was a relatively light-hearted read that I enjoyed getting lost in over the course of a weekend. Once again, Torre delivers strong with Hollywood Dirt and left me wanting more and more!

Hollywood Dirt 1

Excerpt

When the door to the production trailer burst open, it brought with it a wave of heat and beauty. Cole looked up from the storyboards and locked eyes with Summer, who blew across the room at him like a tornado on tilt.

“There’s no love story between Ida and Royce.” Summer snapped, throwing down the script, pages fluttering down between them. In the small trailer, conversations stalled and he could feel the attention turn their way. “I’ve read the book. Three times!”

It was good to know that someone had read the damn book. Cole glanced down at her temper tantrum of a mess and back up, raising his eyebrows mildly. “It’s a movie,” he said, turning back to the storyboards. “The writers are adding some excitement. It’s normal. You’d know that if you were in this business.” The dig was unnecessary but he couldn’t help it. This woman turned him into the devil.

“I read the first script. The one you sent over with my contract. Ida and Royce hated each other. Why would Royce…” she snatched up a page from the ground and read out a line. “pushes Ida against the file cabinet and kisses her passionately.” She balled up the page and threw it down to the ground and he could see, in her eyes, the panic. Panic. An unexpected reaction.

“We’ll use that,” Don made the dangerous move of stepping in, putting a soft hand on her shoulder. “You don’t understand. The passion from their hatred will make it hotter.”

“No.” Summer said, her face hard, her eyes on Cole. “It doesn’t make it hotter. It makes it stupid.”

“Aww… come on, Summer.” Cole chided, stepping closer, his hand reaching out to pull at her wrist. She fought him, yanking it back and the moment of their bodies meeting didn’t happen. He leaned down and whispered, right against her ear, the smell of her apple-scented lotion enough to make him want to empty out the production trailer right that moment. “Sure it does.”

She jerked back and twisted away. “If he kisses me on camera I’m going to lose it.” She shot at Don, pointing an accusatory finger in Cole’s direction.

“I know you will,” Cole laughed, crossing his arms to fight from reaching out.  “You’ll fall apart under my mouth, baby.”

Summer screamed in response, her hands thrown up in frustration, and spun to leave, her script left behind, the slam of the exit door loud in the full production trailer.

“That went well,” Cole mused. He linked his hands and rested them on his head, rolling his shoulders back. Panic. She’d had panic in her eyes. Fuck.

“What do you expect?” Don said. “You threw this on her without warning. I told you we should have met with her this morning, gone over the changes to prepare her. But no – you just wanted to dump it on her via call sheets and sides.”

“Dump it on her? I was People’s Sexiest Man last year. She’s not mentally adjusting to a war camp for God’s sake. How hard is it to kiss me?”

“It’s actually three kisses,” a dark-haired PA to his left pointed out. “And a grope.”

He gave her a hard look and she withered a little.

“I’ll go talk to her,” Don said. “Eileen, you shoot #4 and I’ll talk to Summer. I want to try to get #14 shot at eleven so let’s get our asses in gear and get this done.”

“I’ll talk to her.” Cole stepped in. “You shoot #4 and I’ll talk to her.”

“No,” Don snapped. “With my luck you two would make up and any authenticity to the scene would disappear. Just stay away from her and be ready at eleven.”

Cole chewed on his cheek, then nodded. “Fine.” Don was right. He should stay away from her. Far. Far away.

Synopsis

Equal parts Dexter and 50 Shades, this is the eagerly awaited follow-up to the daring erotic thriller, The Girl in 6E, by A.R. Torre.

My rules:

1. Don’t leave the apartment.
2. Never let anyone in.
3. Don’t kill anyone.

The rules were simple and I broke them.
Now I must face the consequences.
Everyone else must face me.

Review

While I stumbled upon Torre’s work for the erotica that she writes, I’ve found myself falling in love with her psychological thrillers. The Deanna Madden series just has a quality about it that makes the books difficult to not be drawn into. They are equal parts thrilling, sexy, and addicting! Do Not Disturb left me immersed in Deanna’s world, drowning in its pages, and eager for more the moment it ended.

“Star light. Star bright. First star I see tonight.”

Deanna is just as spunky, yet loveable, as she was in The Girl in 6E. There is something about her personality that intrigues me and makes me want to know more about her, even if she has unusual tendencies and urges. I really loved that this book was more about her pushing out of her comfort zone. Her psychiatrist may not have agreed, but those morsels of the outside world satisfied some unknown craving that I had when it came to her character. Watching those manifestations of her desires in juxtaposition of the development of her conscious were absolutely brilliant, and it was those scenes that truly brought this character to life for me.

“I wish I may, wish I might.”

Do Not Disturb had so many of the same elements as the first in the series, yet it was completely different. As sick as this may sound, I found myself loving the way her urges come to fruition. There is a Dexter-like (the television show) quality to it in that it’s the bad guys that suffer. I think that redeeming quality to her desire to kill is what makes me like her so much. Although I don’t find myself actually killing people, Deanna is somehow, maybe eerily, relatable. She becomes a hero, rather than a murderer.

“Not kill those whom my heart holds tight.”

If there is one thing I know to be true, it’s to never doubt the work of Alessandra Torre. She is always delivering a powerful, jaw-dropping, edge-of-your-seat tale that will leave you salivating for more. If you’re a fan of the movie Boondock Saints, or love a little walk on the thrilling side, I highly recommend you get lost in Do Not Disturb and maybe, just like me, you’ll find yourself realigning your moral compass!

Title – Tight
Author – Alessandra Torre
Publication Date – February 7, 2015
Standalone Novel

TIGHT Final Cover

Synopsis

I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single, thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.

I also hadn’t got laid in three years. Hadn’t been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and wearing makeup… a while ago.

Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He flipped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.

The issues?

His secret.

Her.

The fact that I don’t even know she exists, and he thinks she’s dead.

Everything is about to hit the fan and I can’t hold on to him tight enough.

Tight

Review

I’m not even sure that I can form coherent thoughts about Tight by Alessandra Torre. I always go into her next book thinking that I’ll be able to guess where it goes or that it will be a repeat of something she’s written but with minor twists. Well, I am once again slapping my own wrists because I need to figure out how to learn better. Tight is darker than her previous works, but it sinks its teeth deep into you and winds you down a mesmerizing path of love, despair, and above all, hope.

“Every saved soul was a pebble into the stream that was my broken heart.”

Riley is a small-town bumpkin where everyone knows each other. She’s quickly thrown into this whole other jet-setting world with Brett, and I loved every single second of it. She threw caution to the wind and led with her heart. Since I’m a woman who wears her heart on her sleeve, but also quite sensible, I actually loved to see that side of her. Furthermore, I appreciated that once she started to get suspicious of what he did for a living, she decided to find out for herself. Even if she had a hard time confronting him, there was a little bit of rebellion in her. I don’t know how anyone could read this book and not fall in love with Brett. The few chapters we get from his point of view are heartbreaking and enlightening all at once. He’s a complicated character with a genuine heart and you just want to dig to the bottom of the story. Finally, we have Kitten who is a total mystery from the beginning of the book. We catch glimpses of her story, and though I guessed early on at what her purpose was, the journey she took us on was unforgettable.

“I threw every pebble in and hoped the water would dam, hoped the hurt would fade, hoped the memories would fade.”

The plot is like nothing I have ever come across. I commend Torre for touching on a darker subject that some writers may not like to write about. She’s providing a form of entertainment while also addressing a topic that many people know nothing about. I truly respect this author for doing her research and allowing her head to be in that dark space to provide a genuine feel to the books.  Sex trafficking is scary, but it does happen. By introducing it in her words, she has at least educated one woman and without a doubt made me more aware of my own surroundings. I cringed and felt a lot of emotion while reading Tight, particularly when it came to the situations these girls were thrown into. However, to me, that is what makes the story a five star read; the genuine feelings of happiness, sadness, relief, etc. that are pulled from the depths of the reader through the author’s words.

“But the stream never dried, the hurt never ceased, and my pain never healed.”

The one thing that I have learned about Torre is that she is not afraid to test your boundaries and push you to the edge. Tight is no exception to this rule; it was simultaneously everything and nothing that I expected it to be. It was thrilling ride that I wanted to never end, but one where I felt like I could breathe again by the end. Tight is not a story that I will likely forget anytime soon. I honestly enjoyed every single second of the ride it took me on, for better or worse. I’m not sure what else is in that brain of Alessandra Torre’s, but she definitely still has a fan for life in me.
