REVIEW – One With You by Sylvia Day

Title – One With You
Author – Sylvia Day
Series – Crossfire #5

Gideon Cross. Falling in love with him was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. It happened instantly. Completely. Irrevocably.

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another. Gideon is the mirror that reflects all my flaws … and all the beauty I couldn’t see. He has given me everything. Now, I must prove I can be the rock, the shelter for him that he is for me. Together, we could stand against those who work so viciously to come between us.

But our greatest battle may lie within the very vows that give us strength. Committing to love was only the beginning. Fighting for it will either set us free … or break us apart.

Readers have waited for what feels like forever for the conclusion to Gideon and Eva’s story, myself included. When I couldn’t make time in my schedule to read it as soon as it released, I was pretty annoyed with myself, but the anticipation and excitement built until I finally got to tackle it. While it ended up being not my favorite book in the series, One With You took me on such an emotional journey. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the transformations that I witnessed throughout the series as a whole.

“That was why we were going to get past this and every other hurdle we faced: We would always meet each other halfway.”

One With You presents an entirely different scenario for both of these characters; one where there is trust present. Rather than one of them running away from their problems, they were able to face them together and fight through it instead. I’m not going to lie, it was a really refreshing side of their relationship to witness. Gideon also became a whole other character in this book that made me fall even more in love with him. He was still fiercely protective and very much an alpha male, but he had matured in the final installment of the Crossfire series. He finally learned how to be in a relationship and it definitely made for a satisfying conclusion to his long-fought journey.

“And I let go of my grief in the shelter of his arms, knowing that whether in joy or pain, Gideon was one with me.”

Sylvia Day has kept readers hooked on this series from the moment she introduced Gideon Crossfire into their lives. After finishing One With You, I do think in many ways that the series could have finished after that third book. However, the writing was still fantastic and there was undeniable chemistry between Gideon and Eva. This couple has seen numerous ups and downs throughout the course of their relationship, and I was happy to see them left in a place of contentment and positivity. It made my heart happy to see them fighting tooth and nail for their relationship in a society where it is far too easy to just give up. This may have been my goodbye to these beloved characters, but I know for certain that they renewed my love of reading years ago, and for that, they will always live on in my heart.
