Title: Fighting for Honor
Author: J.B. Salsbury
Series: Fighting #8
Release Date: September 24, 2017
UFL fighter Caleb hasn’t been to Hope Town since he was eighteen. His next big fight takes place in Atlanta and the serene lakefront home from his childhood is the perfect place to train without distractions.
Until he stumbles downstairs to find a woman in his house. He’s met her before, and he’s never forgotten.
Honor was raised by her grandfather, Crazy Colonel Cartwright. Ostracized at a young age she was an outcast. Combined with her awkward personality and she became the local bully’s favorite plaything.
Honor and Caleb come face-to-face and feelings from fourteen years ago come rushing back—not all of them good.
She prefers to remain unknown, but she’s seen in public with the world’s most talked about fighter and thrust into a national spotlight that catches the attention of her childhood tormentors.
And they aren’t finished with her yet.
J.B. Salsbury brings her Fighting series to the Corps Security in Hope Town Kindle World with Caleb’s story in Fighting for Honor. Caleb and Honor were every bit a Fighting couple, but this crossover gave their journey a softer edge that had me melting in a totally new way. Part friends-to-lovers and part second-chance romance, Fighting for Honor was sweet, sexy, and totally captivating. I adored the undeniable chemistry between Honor and Caleb that only seemed to spark hotter as the pages passed. Their shared history gave them a great foundation on which to build something truly special and surprisingly deep. Overflowing with raw emotion and sprinkled with just enough heat, Caleb and Honor’s journey had me riveted as I devoured this story and held on tight through each twist and turn leading to their happily ever after.
“I should warn you. We’re fighters by nature, insanely competitive; we were all born that way. When we find what we want, we do not give up until it’s ours.”
Honor was the kind of heroine we can all relate to. She’s a bit lost, a little broken, and all sorts of insecure. She was also delightfully awkward, beautifully brave, and unwaveringly kind. She made me feel and left me grinning. She was easy to connect with and I found myself wanting to be her friend and cheering her on. Caleb, on the other hand, was utterly swoon-worthy. He was everything I’ve come to love about J.B. Salsbury’s Fighting men and I instantly fell head over heels. Caleb was flirty, loyal, and fierce in his feelings for Honor. I loved his easy camaraderie with the other fighters who made cameos and adored how protective he was of his relationship. I definitely would have liked to dive a little deeper into the characters, however, I understand that the length of this crossover project limited the depth of the character development.
“It’s real, Honor. As real as it’s ever been for me.”
Having never read Harper Sloan’s Corps Security series or Hope Town series, this was my first look at both of those worlds. It certainly wasn’t necessary to have read either series in order to understand this book and, if anything, I’m intrigued by the brief glimpse I got into the town and the fantastic characters I met. That being said, I enjoyed the unexpected twist that being part of the Kindle World gave this Fighting series story. Fighting for Honor was a mash-up of Salsbury’s addictive Fighting family with a small-town romance setting and I thoroughly enjoyed the sweet, sexy outcome. This book was bursting with heartfelt emotion, witty banter, and brilliant imagery, effortlessly bringing the lovable characters and their unique journey to life. J.B. Salsbury made me laugh, swoon, and happy sigh with Caleb and Honor’s story.
I have an addiction and JB Salsbury is my supplier!! I swear there is not a thing this woman can’t write. Each and every time I pick up a novel by her, I’m blown away by how much she reels me in and delivers on all the feels. I’m super excited to say that Honor and Caleb’s story was no exception. If anything, Fighting for Honor just left me hoping and begging that Salsbury will write a series of small town romances in the future.
“My granddaddy taught me that there was no greater virtue than honor. The only kind of honor I got is my name.”
I liked seeing a little bit more of a vulnerability in he heroine, Honor. I’m honestly not used to that with Salsbury’s characters but it provided for a different sense of satisfaction as she grew into her confidence. Caleb was every bit the gentle protective giant I would be disappointed to miss, and I loved him from the moment we met him. The history between the characters was perfection because it lent to such a fierce banter in their relationship. Nothing came easy, yet I effortlessly fell for these two together.
“She’ll fight for those she cares about, but she has a hard time fighting for herself.”
I will admit that while I adore JB, I was initially skeptical about diving into a world that I had no previous experience with. I was hesitant that I’d be a bit lost, as the story is set in another author’s world.. However, she stayed true to her roots and did her fighting boys proud. It was a perfect blend of the back and forth banter her readers have come to expect, with that dangerous and mysterious setting of a new place. If anything, it made me curious to go check out Harper Sloan’s stories next (and for a girl with a pretty long TBR list, that’s quite a feat)! The ending felt a little bit rushed, and I would have loved to see some expansion, however it was so beyond fulfilling in the feels department. I’m sure that I’ll be first in line for whatever Salsbury pens next, but I’m definitely holding out hope for another small town romance!
