Fresh off a divorce from a Hollywood hotshot, Madison Atwood needs an escape. With the paparazzi fresh on her heels and her love life splashed on every tabloid, she runs away to a swanky retreat in Northern California. Avalon Springs is the mountainside haven she needs to find herself again.
Luke Dawson lives off the grid, preferring solitude to society. When he finds a beautiful woman soaking in the hot springs on his property, he can’t stop himself from watching her. She captures his attention, but she’s just a city girl—a beautiful distraction disturbing the peace he’s settled here to find.
When Madison discovers Luke’s secluded cabin, he can’t turn her away again. They make no promises. Madison needs to feel wanted again, and Luke misses the touch of a woman. But when mother nature has other plans, they’re forced to spend more than a night of passion together. Can Luke say goodbye to the only woman who’s made him feel anything in years, and can Madison leave behind the man who brought her back to life?
Meredith Wild and Chelle Bliss prove to be quite the dynamic writing duo, serving up tons of sizzle and plenty of heart with Misadventures of a City Girl. Luke and Madison’s story was fun, flirty, and delightfully filthy, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. From their very first encounter, this pair exuded sexual tension and raw attraction. Luke and Madison’s chemistry burned hot and bright as their personalities clashed and they fought to find middle ground. The authors did a great job playing off of the couple’s vastly different lifestyles, ensuring that the reader was firmly invested in their journey together.
“We’re like rivers, handsome. We move through life touching different points and changing the landscape around us.”
I adore a good opposites attract storyline and this one was no exception. However, the best part of Luke and Madison’s journey was discovering they might just be more similar than was initially apparent. Wild and Bliss took the relationship between the hero and heroine to new places as they explored the couple’s past heartbreaks and personal histories, developing unexpected emotional connections that took me by surprise. I appreciated getting to know Madison on a more significant level and only wish Luke’s character had undergone the same amount of development. There were several moments that felt like missed opportunities to really get to know Luke beyond the superficial facts. Regardless I enjoyed this book for the light, sexy read that it was.
“I want you more than once. I want to lost count. I have no idea when it’ll ever be enough, Madison.”
Luke and Madison’s journey moved quickly, pulling the reader in and dousing them in the flames of this couple’s red-hot love story. The overall storyline was undoubtedly intriguing and I liked the progression of the relationship and it’s eventual resolution. Luke and Madison had a great push and pull that kept me grinning as I read this novel. The authors certainly made for quite the pair in their own right, their writing styles blending well together and leaving me to wonder what else they might be capable of together. If you’re looking for a fast-paced, entertaining, and seriously scorching read then you’ve definitely found it with Misadventures of a City Girl.
I have been anxious to get my hands on the books in the Misadventures series from the moment that the authors made the huge announcement. Each novel sounds unique, filled with fun, and romance to heat up chilly evenings. Misadventures of a City Girl’s blurb seemed like it would be the perfect way to kick off these books and I have to admit that it turned out to be. Chelle Bliss and Meredith Wild make a dynamic duo, delivering a story full of spice and raw passion between the hero and heroine.
“There’s nothing fast about the man. He lives like he loves. My life is the total opposite.”
While I absolutely adored the premise of the storyline and thought it had tremendous potential, I was left wanting just a little bit more, particularly from Luke. We catch glimpses of his past and what made him become the person that he did, but I wanted to see that transformation through his eyes more. Madison goes from a broken divorcee who needs space to this strong independent woman, and readers can easily see what contributes to her getting from point A to point B. However, while I was happy to see Luke push his boundaries and leave his comfort zone, I was missing that connection as to what changed for him. As a personal preference, I think I needed just a bit more of that depth. That being said, these two made me giggle and smile on numerous occasions. While I’m not usually an insta-love fanatic, I have to admit that I loved how quickly they grew to care for each other, and how much they wanted to adapt to the other’s lifestyle. It was in those moments of compromise and caring that I truly fell for the heroine and hero as a couple.
“My time with Madison was a fleeting gift. Like a dip in the springs. A warm little haven. But only for a while. My home is here…and her home is in the city.”
Chelle Bliss and Meredith Wild have made an incredible team in Misadventures of a City Girl, setting the bar high for expectations when it comes to the rest of the Misadventures series. I’m anxious to see what will happen in the other standalone novels from other authors and how they weave their own tales. I thoroughly enjoyed this first book which definitely gave a brand new meaning to the phrase opposites attract!
