I look her body up and down as I circle her.
I smile A devious, deviant, I’m gonna make you sorry you ever started playing this game with me smile.
And then I take her hand.
I lead her to the elevator.
We go up to my apartment.
I tie her wrists together with rope.
Raise her arms above her head.
And chain her to the ceiling.
It’s my turn.
I’m going to be honest…I’m not quite sure what the heck I just read. His Turn was surprise after mind blowing surprise and my head is still reeling at how everything happened. Bric’s book was absolutely nothing like I had expected, yet fulfilled so many deep desires that I had for this hero. When you dive into this final book of the series, be sure to have alcohol handy and your “whoa!” face at the ready!
“Elias Bricman made me submit to him. And I loved every second of it.”
From the previous books, readers know that Bric is a private, controlling personality. His dominance can be his greatest strength, as we’ve seen, but in His Turn, readers witness it becoming his greatest weakness, too. There was something about the way Huss wrote his background that left me speechless and in a state of shock on more than one occasion. While I may have been indifferent to him before, I can say that all that ambivalence definitely went away. Nadia’s character also left me guessing left and right. I was never quite sure what we were getting with her and it left my mind running in circles quite often. In that regard, I very much felt a part of their story; a pawn in their game to be played with. It certainly made for an interesting dynamic to the story, and urged me to continue on until I could reach the core of what made each of these characters tick.
“There is nothingness… and then there is emptiness. I’m lying in bed trying to figure out which is which.”
I’ve left this review quite vague intentionally, but I couldn’t see another way to do it. The storyline will leave readers guessing time and time again, with a spectrum of feelings aimed at the main players of the book. There were times I despised both of them, and times my heart ached for them as well. His Turn is a multidimensional story of passion and what happens when we try to outrun a past that can never escape us. Though the story turned out to be nothing like I expected, it was everything I never knew I wanted for Bric. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again; Huss is an absolutely brilliant writer who comes out on top every single time. She’s a game changer to the genre and readers would definitely be amiss if they haven’t picked up something from her yet. Get ready for the ride of a lifetime, because His Turn aims to please…and it succeeds on so many different levels!
