Title: The Catch
Author: K. Bromberg
Series: The Player Duet #2
Release Date: June 29, 2017
After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him.
Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton.
But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong.
With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone.
He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.
K. Bromberg delivers the breathtaking and heart-wrenching conclusion to Scout and Easton’s story with The Catch. This book was absolutely everything, serving up some serious angst, tons of sweetness, and plenty of surprises in the way that only K. Bromberg can. Picking up right where The Player left off, the author had my head spinning from the very first page. I felt as if my heart had been ripped from my chest as the couple I’d come to know and love where thrown immediately into turmoil. Despite the obstacles in their way, Scout and Easton’s inexplicable connection was still utterly addictive and their chemistry sizzled hotter than ever. K. Bromberg didn’t miss a beat, ensuring I was wholly invested in this fantastic duo’s happily ever after as I devoured the second part of their story.
“I want to drown in you tonight, Scout. I want to forget the world, forget what’s going to happen tomorrow, and drown in everything about you, starting now.”
Scout and Easton were both challenged in unexpected ways over the course of this book and I quickly found myself in awe of the growth they demonstrated. The hard realities this couple faced and the decisions they had to make really revealed the true nature of both characters and I found myself connecting with Scout and Easton in significant and surprising ways. I loved how K. Bromberg unraveled Easton so completely, forcing him to face his flaws and the prospect of life after baseball and rise above the fear. There were times when he was harder to love in this book, but stripped of his usual charm and confidence, Easton came across as raw, real and entirely relatable. Scout’s transformation was equally as beautiful in The Catch and I absolutely adored seeing her come into her own and challenge the plan she had been following in order to love and live on her own terms.
“There’s power in sharing your shortcomings with others. It may open you up, but it could allow others to overcome their own hurdles.”
Perfectly paced and exquisitely written, this storyline definitely didn’t pull any punches. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me riveted to the pages of Scout and Easton’s journey, desperate for more of their inimitable sweetness, delightful flirtations and scorching chemistry. Overflowing with lyrical prose, genuine emotion, vibrant imagery and colorful personalities, The Catch exemplified K. Bromberg’s signature writing style. I was captivated from the first page to the last, unable to stop reading until Easton and Scout had found their happily ever after. K. Bromberg definitely didn’t disappoint, unapologetically playing on my heartstrings before delivering an ending that was entirely satisfying. I laughed, cried and swooned my way through this novel only to find myself desperately missing Scout and Easton and ready to start reading all over again. K. Bromberg unquestionably has another grand slam on her hands with The Catch!
Bromberg left me hanging at the end of The Player, and I simply couldn’t wait to dive in and see where she would take readers in The Catch. Needless to say, this book was nothing like I had expected. There was such a myriad of emotions experienced from beginning to end, and it was worth every single second of the ride. Scout and Easton’s story is one that kept me guessing, falling in love, and wishing it would never end.
“I’ve sold my soul to the devil, and my heart’s not in it to make it work, even when I know I have to. Family first.”
I’ll admit that I adored this couple in the first book of the series. However, it was in The Catch that it became elevated to something more. The conclusion to their story took everything that I loved in the first book and brought it to life in a bigger, better light. Each of our main characters continued to grow which made for such a beautiful transformation. They were supportive and loving in ways that readers hadn’t previously witnessed. They were forced to make decisions and deal with the consequences – together. I won’t go into much detail because of not wanting to spoil it for other readers. I will just say that their love and loyalty was tested time and time again, yet trust prevailed and it provided for a very breathtaking story.
“There will come a day, son, when someone will love the parts of you that no one else knows how to love. That’s when you know they’re the one for you.”
I continue to say that I don’t think Bromberg’s writing could get any better, yet she surprises me time after time. She is able to perfectly combine sex, character growth, and a storyline that feels pertinent and important. She is a favorite to so many people, myself included, because of this unique ability. Many will look at the blurbs to these books and think all they’re going to get is a sports romance, but I can guarantee that it couldn’t be further from the truth. I loved the mix of baseball with a take-no-nonsense heroine and a cocky hero who was forced to navigate through the curveballs thrown his way. The Catch was an emotional ride that kept me on my toes and I only wish that I could experience it for the first time all over again!
