Feeling the rush comes with a price…

Mackenzie Cox has lost everything—except Hayden Hayes. With Kenzie’s racing career over, and her family no longer speaking to her, Hayden has been her rock, as she tries to pick up the pieces of what was once her life.

But when Hayden’s racing team hires his beautiful ex-girlfriend, Felicia, to be their new hotshot rider, Kenzie and Hayden’s seemingly solid relationship begins to crack. Kenzie can only watch from the sidelines, as Felicia lives the life she was forced to leave behind, and as tension begins to build between Hayden and Kenzie, she wonders if Hayden isn’t the man she once knew.

I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for more of Kenzie and Hayden and holy cow, did S.C. Stephens deliver. While the first book in the Rush series was driven forward through action and fast-paced romance, Dangerous Rush reminded me a lot more of the classic Stephens I have encountered. The conclusion to their story was filled with angst and emotional components to keep readers turning page after page – reminiscent of her Thoughtless series. I never knew what to expect, but I can definitely say Dangerous Rush was full throttle.

“You act like your life is carved in stone, unchangeable, but it’s not, Hayden. You can change anything about yourself that you want. Anything.”

I will say that it seemed that life was against the couple in this book; Everything that fate could throw at them happened, but never in an exaggerated manner. Though at times it could feel like a lot, everything still felt natural to the storyline, which I appreciated. I also loved how complex the characters grew to be in Dangerous Rush. Even though they wanted nothing more than to race, the crux of the story became about so much more. They were truly tested to figure out their priorities and what mattered most to each of them. It was a journey of emotions that I could not get enough of and wished it could continue forever.

“We were on paths neither one of us could change, and unfortunately, they were heading in opposite directions.”

The transformations from the first book, especially in those initial moments, to the ending of this one, was mind boggling. Both Hayden and Kenzie were forced to confront emotions, people, and inner demons which made for quite a salivating read. They grew before my very eyes and witnessing it certainly felt special. Kenzie went from high to low and how she dealt with it resonated so strongly with me. She was a girl after my own heart and that made me love her even more. I’m not going to lie, I went through very large gaps of time where I was so frustrated with Hayden that I was ready to put my boot upside his head. What’s that saying? The best laid plans? Expect some definite surprises with that one 😉

“There was just something about Kenzie on a bike that got all my juices flowing—I wanted to hold her, kiss her, race her, and undress her, all at the same time.”

Overall, I loved the new scenery combined with the classic, unforgettable Stephens. Her writing in Dangerous Rush felt so much more angsty and left me craving nothing but more. I don’t know if there will be more spinoffs in the series, but I know for certain that if she writes them, I’ll be waiting for that green light to speed through for my own Dangerous Rush!

S.C. Stephens is a bestselling author who enjoys spending every free moment she has creating stories that are packed with emotion and heavy on romance.

Her debut novel, Thoughtless, an angst-filled loved triangle charged with insurmountable passion and the unforgettable Kellan Kyle, took the literary world by storm. Amazed and surprised by the response to the release of Thoughtless in 2009, more stories were quick to follow. Stephens has been writing nonstop ever since.

In addition to writing, Stephens enjoys spending lazy afternoons in the sun reading fabulous novels, loading up her iPod with writer’s block reducing music, heading out to the movies and spending quality time with her friends and family. She currently resides in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her two equally beautiful children.
