I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, JA Huss is a total mastermind. Every time I dive into a new story, I get nothing but unpredictability, heat, and surprises around every corner. Her characters are all so different, yet each created with a realistic feel, and despite being a story about super villains falling in love, there was something about Anarchy Missing that felt real as well. This novel was everything that I could have hoped for and more – proven by the fact that I just couldn’t put it down.
“I loved her, she walked away from me, and I never quite got over that.”
Lulu and Case’s romance puts a spin on the second chance romance that I’m used to coming across. I loved watching them find their footing where they seemed to love hard and fight even harder. Furthermore, Lulu goes through a bit of an inner turmoil with Case as he seems versus the man she knew, and I couldn’t get enough of that struggle. I admired that she had a sense of loyalty to him, but also to her job and the woman she had grown to be. It spoke to how strong-willed and determined she was and we definitely need more heroines like that! Case was such an anomaly that he really was the driving force of the novel. Even though I knew something was off from the very beginning, I was compelled to keep turning pages and figure out just what was going on with him. For as much as I loved Lincoln, Case easily pushed his way into one of my top favorite heroes with all the complexities that shaped him. The layers that Huss gave him was just fascinating because there was never truly one thing ruling him at any given time. His personality was a result of everything he’d been through, and was currently managing.
“Cathedral City belongs to us. The Alphas.”
Time and time again, Huss has found ways to keep me on my toes and surprise me, no matter what she’s writing about. There’s something for everyone in her novels and it’s what keeps me coming back for more. I loved the action in Anarchy Found and was admittedly nervous to how this installment would continue. However, it’s safe to say that the author makes her own rules and I’m already crazy excited to see what these super villains will take on next. With romance for the lovers and lots of high octane action for readers who crave more, Anarchy Missing has it all. Trust me when I say, this is a unique series readers do NOT want to miss!
He stares at me. I barely recognize him. He’s so much older, broader, more intent. One gloved hand flies to my throat, the other covers my mouth as he pushes me back into the shadows of the thick stone columns that hold the arch over our heads. We round the corner, backing me into the secret spot I found for us so many years ago at the end of that one perfect night.
I’m frightened for a moment. Caught up in the accusations against him. In the law, and my duty, and my job.
But the heat of his hands and the urgency in his push are enough to keep me calm. Make me want him. Render me powerless to refuse him.
Did I ever doubt that I’d give in?
“Where did you go?” he asks, once we’re hidden from view, the only prying eyes those of the iconic statue set into the stone wall.
“Away,” I say simply.
“You’re back now?” he asks. Eyes almost pleading.
“I’m back now.”
He sits on the stone bench and it’s like… it’s like we’re kids again. At the end of that one night at the ball. But this time we are deliberate. Older. More experienced, but also more cynical.
My eyes never leave his as I hike up my dress, straddle his thighs, and nestle myself into his lap.
He hugs me then. Wraps his arms completely around my waist, pulling me in so close, I almost gasp for air.
