What do you do when all your secrets– and your heart– are exposed?
Natalie Anderson has spent her life being strong for everyone else, always putting herself last. But that has come with a price because the stress and secrets are affecting every part of her life. Looking and acting the part is one thing, but feeling it is another. She knows she’s at a crossroads and she needs to make a change, starting with loosening up and living a little.
Kai Pierson is done being a grunt. He’s finally worked his way up the ladder and he now finds himself a rep at the hottest label, representing the hottest band in all of rock music. He’s living the life…alone, but he’s okay with that. It’s the way it needs to be.
Though they’ve never met in person, they become friends and spend hours talking about life. When the chance to meet arrives, neither of them are ready for how they feel when they see each other for the first time.
But when Natalie’s secrets are exposed, will she be able to put it all behind her and find her own happiness, or will the lies destroy her once and for all?
L.L. Collins delivers her best Jaded Regret novel yet with Natalie’s story! Exposed was everything I’ve come to love from this incredible rocker romance series and then some, tugging on my heartstrings from the very first page and taking me on a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. Kai and Natalie were the perfect pair, radiating a sparkling chemistry that was utterly addictive and sharing a connection that proved time and again to be deeply significant and absolutely inimitable. The easy friendship between this couple, paired with their shared passion for music, gave this book something incredibly special that made it impossible to put down. I adored the way Kai and Natalie used their love of music to bare themselves to one another, bringing this story to life through some of my absolute favorite songs. I completely devoured L.L. Collins’ beautiful words and found myself unavoidably caught up in the heady emotions, heartfelt dialogue, vibrant imagery and lyrical prose of Kai and Natalie’s unforgettable journey.
“People who loved you hurt you. Whenever you let someone get that close to you, you opened yourself up to allowing them to shred your soul from the inside out.”
Just when I think L.L. Collins couldn’t possibly write a more heart wrenching character, Natalie comes along and proves me wrong. While she was certainly every bit the selfless and loyal woman I knew she’d be, L.L. Collins revealed so much more of this character over the course of the story. Natalie’s demons were deeply personal, breaking my heart repeatedly as she struggled with her total lack of self worth and inability to accept love. In many ways Natalie was a complete contradiction. With the band, she was a powerhouse – professional, assertive, intelligent; yet Natalie’s personal life found her to be a shell of the beautiful, strong woman who represented Jaded Regret – untrusting and self-deprecating. I was mesmerized by the internal war being waged and adored the way in which L.L. utilized Natalie’s relationships with Kai, Beau, and the rest of the band to explore the issues at the heart of this story. I loved watching this character grow as L.L. Collins worked her magic and took Natalie to new and unexpected places in Exposed.
“No one ever gets me. Not really. I keep myself so closed off; I don’t let them. But you…you see me without me even allowing you to. You just do.”
L.L. Collins’ spellbinding character development also extends to her delicious heroes. Kai was book boyfriend perfection and had me head over heels from the moment he appeared on the scene. I absolutely adored everything about this character. From his relationship with his family and friends to his incredible work ethic and the respect and care he showed towards Natalie, Kai is the man every woman dreams of finding. As we got to know him over the course of this novel, I enjoyed seeing both the sweet and steamy sides of him. His ability to make me laugh, blush, think and totally melt all in the course of a single exchange earned him the designation of utterly swoon-worthy. L.L. Collins kept this character fairly drama free, allowing him the focus to take care of Natalie and help her heal while going to battle with her stubborn demeanor and closed-off personality. I loved how easily Kai seemed to fit into Natalie’s world, finding his place amongst the Jaded Regret family without much fanfare. He was the perfect match for our secretive, self-loathing, anxiety-ridden heroine and in turn it was his charm, confidence, and unending patience that made this story absolutely shine.
“Do you want to know what my heart wants or what my head says?”
One of my favorite things about this novel was the effortless incorporation of music throughout Kai and Natalie’s story. I found myself connecting with not only the chosen music, but also the implied emotions that proved to be so significant to the overall storyline. Once again, L.L. Collins fearlessly tackles the real issues, shining a spotlight on Natalie’s problems and encouraging readers to face the harsh realities of this character’s life with all of the respect, grace, and understanding these tough topics deserve. Exposed overflowed with genuine emotion, a nod to the incredible heart and soul that the author has so obviously put into this story. L.L. Collins’ writing is undeniably electric, capturing the intensity of Natalie and Kai’s connection along with the complexity of their story and relaying it to the readers with all of the powerful feeling, delightful wit, obvious intelligence and delicious steam that keeps me coming back for more. Breathtaking, colorful and full of feels, Exposed is a poignant story of self-acceptance and unconditional love and L.L. Collins has definitely left her mark on my heart with this must read novel.
