Constant craving . . . immortal obsession.
A.D. Justice delves into the paranormal with Immortal Envy, a smart, sexy, action-packed adventure that will leave you wanting more of the Barnett brothers. While I’m not usually a reader of paranormal romance, there was something about the premise of this book and the relationship between the main characters that had me anxious to dive in. The contrast between Alea’s innocent and soft demeanor with both Ramses and Slade’s brand of gritty desire was utterly addicting and I found myself enthralled by the escalating corruption of our heroine’s thoughts, emotions, and instincts. As a result of this undeniable tension, the chemistry between the brothers and Alea scorched the pages and kept me reading in heated anticipation of the next sizzling encounter.
“If I could find someone like her, a woman whose blood makes mine boil with desire, I would never become bored. I’d never tire of her. I’d never need another. She would be my immortal love.”
A.D. Justice didn’t pull any punches when it came to the passion she felt for these characters. Her excitement for Slade, Ramses, and Alea’s story was definitely palpable, radiating from the pages and ensuring my investment in their journey. I really enjoyed the character growth that occurred over the course of this novel. All three of our main characters seemed to totally transform as the story progressed and I was captivated by the new facets of their personalities and interesting relationship dynamics that eventually came to light. I especially loved the raw carnality that A.D. Justice so expertly coaxed from her characters as they left the civility and decorum of that time period behind and gave into the animalistic urges of their paranormal species.
“His immortal obsession is married to his immortal nemesis. He both loves and hates his brother, just as he loves and hates himself.”
I loved seeing A.D. Justice reach outside of her normal writing realm with this book. Not only did she branch into the paranormal, but there was also a distinctly historical feel to this story that the author seemed to capture absolutely effortlessly with her language. From the descriptive imagery and social morals to her characters’ inner musings, A.D. Justice brought this fictional world to life in a bold and beautiful way. In addition to the great world building, there is also some fantastic storyline development that has me anxious to get my hands on the rest of this series. As A.D. Justice unraveled a few of the mysteries and exposed other pieces of the Barnett family puzzle, more questions arose that have me completely intrigued. I can’t wait to find out where this series is headed and how things will end up for this complicated Vampire clan.
