In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold…
Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.
Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast….

Sarina Bowen’s writing is utterly captivating – her lyrical prose, impassioned imagery, and witty dialogue creating a potent cocktail of lust, angst and excitement that will leave you wanting more. Rookie Move is a definite win for this incredible author!
“The heat pouring off you two is hazardous. I’d better make sure I know where they keep the onboard fire extinguisher. Because, safety first.”
I’m usually not a big fan of third person narration, preferring the more gripping emotions of first person storytelling, but Sarina Bowen absolutely nails it, pulling me into Leo and Georgia’s heads and hearts with well-practiced ease and allowing me to experience their journey in a very visceral way. As a longtime hockey fan, I must also applaud Sarina Bowen’s expert use of hockey terminology and sports slang to create the vibrant and addictive world of the Brooklyn Bruisers. It was incredibly authentic and yet still accessible to the hockey novice. The author’s words painted a brilliant picture of the innovative professional hockey organization, and the memorable personalities that kept it running. I swear I could feel the biting chill of the arena mixing with the fevered energy of the crowd as I devoured each page of this novel.
“Never saw you hesitate in the middle of a game before.” She gave her hips a push, and he damn near shuddered with joy. “Where’s your hustle?”
Both Leo and Georgia underwent significant character growth over the course of the story. I loved being able to explore their current lives in contrast to their relationship as teenagers. It allowed me to really connect with them on a deeper level and made investing myself in Leo and Georgia’s happily ever after feel that much more natural. There was something so genuine about both our hero and heroine that I couldn’t help but fall head over heels with. Their shared past made way for an easy friendship that combined with their undeniable electricity and inexplicable connection to create something absolutely breathtaking. The strength Leo and Georgia found in one another and the dedication they repeatedly demonstrated to the other’s dreams made my heart soar and ensured I was wholly addicted to this fantastic couple.
“Leo Trevi was the source of all her stress at the moment. How odd that he could also be a source of comfort, too.”
While so much of the storyline in Rookie Move was fun, sexy, and thrilling, Sarina Bowen expertly integrated some sobering emotions that kept me turning the pages as my heart rode out the rollercoaster that was Leo and Georgia’s story. I greatly admired the grace and respect with which the author addressed the more serious events that transpired for this couple, her raw and honest characterization making me feel for Leo and Georgia and all they had experienced. Balancing out the more heart wrenching moments of this book were the vivacious secondary characters whose intriguing personalities have me already itching to hear their stories. I can’t wait to see how Sarina Bowen plans on developing this series and experiencing more of Leo and Georgia as we get to know the rest of Brooklyn Bruisers!
