Every love story has two sides. Evie told hers. This time it’s Leo’s chance.
THIS IS A POV NOVEL OF LEO (LEO SHOULD BE READ FIRST).
Mia Sheridan returns to the story that had our hearts faltering and fluttering in Leo’s Chance. Leo finally gets his turn in this alternate point of view novel and it was every bit worth the wait to hear his side of the story. The emotional moments of his personal journey tugged on my heart, while I fell in love with his and Evie’s epic love story once again. Mia Sheridan’s writing is as captivating as ever, pulling me right back into this familiar story from the very first page in a way that felt entirely fresh and equally exciting. Mia Sheridan’s thoughtful prose, delightful wit, and breathtaking emotion has once again blown me away. Leo’s Chance is a fantastic companion to Leo and a great addition to the Sign of Love Series.
“After years and years of pining for her so intensely, she was right in front of me, and yet she was still a thousand miles away.”
While Evie is as memorable as ever, this novel was Leo’s through and through. I absolutely adored how much this book added to the character, revealing never before seen pieces of his story and completing his puzzle in an unexpected way. I loved the glimpses we got into this complex character’s soul by experiencing his life after the accident and before his reunion with Evie. I enjoyed seeing him in his element at work as well as exploring the various outside relationships that seemed to have influenced the person Leo became over the course of the story. I felt like I finally understood where he was coming from, why he made the choices he did, and what was truly in his heart all along. Mia Sheridan gave Leo some incredible depth in this novel and it definitely had me falling even harder for him this time around.
“If people always acted in a predictable way, determined solely by a set of data, you and Evie would have been much different people. Respect the mystery.”
Leo’s Chance had a decidedly different overall tone than Leo did. While Evie’s side of the story was indeed emotional, so much of it was intellectually driven. She was more stuck in her own mind, trying to wrap her head around her lost relationship with Leo and the possibility of allowing herself to love again, as well as attempting to reconcile the lies she’d been told with the new truths before her. Leo, on the other hand, knew the truth from the beginning, so his journey was more raw, visceral, and overflowing with complicated emotions. As he warred with his impossibly strong feelings and self-imposed duality, Leo made me feel deeply. His story settled in my gut in a way that was surprising and yet felt completely natural, ensuring that Leo’s Chance left a lasting impression.
“Way I see it, maybe it’s not so unfair, as unfinished . If you stopped in the middle of a lot of stories, they’d seem unfair. You’re still in the middle of yours.”
Having read this book immediately after the first, there were a couple times where the story seemed to slow down a bit, likely because of the repetitive nature of certain scenes. However, this was mostly balanced out by the moments where I couldn’t seem to stop reading because I was so totally enthralled in Mia Sheridan’s storytelling. This author continually proves herself to be an expert at combining stunning emotional content with deliciously steamy encounters and amusing moments of levity and Leo’s Chance was no exception. Thanks in part to the fantastic secondary characters that brought heart and humor to Leo and Evie’s story, this novel is a well-rounded read. Leo’s Chance is an entertaining, powerful, and beautiful journey of heartbreak and hope that is not to be missed.
From the moment I finished the first book in Mia Sheridan’s Sign of Love series of standalones, I knew that I would fall in love with every future book to come. However, I was particularly interested in diving into Leo’s Chance in order to see the other side of all the interactions we had received in Leo. This book was everything I could have wanted and more. It had just the right amount of overlap from Leo, but with so much new content that it never felt like a repeat of the first book.
“But the only thing we’ll get from trying to figure out where another path would have taken us are questions there are no answers to, and heartbreak that can’t be healed. Regardless of how we got there, all any of us can do is move forward from where we are.”
Whenever I dive into an alternative point of view novel, I’m always slightly hesitant because of fear that I will just get a regurgitation or that I won’t love the characters as much. I’m happy to say that Leo’s Chance was nothing but a reminder as to why I fell so hard for Jake and Evie in the first place. Sheridan’s writing is magical; it transports you to the world her personalities live in and is able to make you feel like you’re experiencing the emotions, not just reading them. Even though I knew how the story would end, and the ups and downs to get there, it felt all brand new to my heart. I hurt when the characters did, I rejoiced when they were happy, and I fell in love right alongside them.
“Sometimes it feels like I’m a broken mess of pieces, always searching for a way to fit them all together.”
It was invaluable to be inside Jake’s head, to experience what he did, both in the past and present. Though I loved him before, it created a whole other layer to his personality. In many ways, it created sympathy and pride for how far he was able to come. However, I think what my favorite part of Leo’s Chance is was that it showed how well he knew and understood Evie. The way he was able to read her showed how deep their connection was, even after so many years apart. I adored the characters in the first installment because of the idea that these two broken people could come together to fill in cracks that existed in the other. There’s something about the hope that we’re all a little broken, and we all deserve to be loved, that resonated deeply in my soul. Leo’s Choice was the most perfect alternative point of view novel, and now I’m dying to see how Sheridan will bring out the other astrological signs in the rest of the series!
