Title: Never Too Far
Author: Abbi Glines
Series: Rosemary Beach #2
Release Date: February 25, 2013
Our relationship had been short. Intense and brief. I wondered what it would have felt like to curl up in Rush’s arms anytime I wanted. To know I was safe and that he loved me. We’d never had that chance.
Just when Blaire allowed herself to fall for her stepbrother, Rush, he revealed a life-altering secret so devastating that she couldn’t forgive him. Unable to face him again, Blaire leaves the promise of true love behind in Rosemary Beach and returns to the comforts of her small town in Alabama, wanting nothing more than to put the summer behind her.
But unexpected news complicates Blaire’s plans, and she’s forced to trust the one man she shouldn’t. Trapped between Rush’s fierce desire to win her back and her own sense of self-preservation, Blaire doesn’t know if she’s doing the right thing…or if she’s making the biggest mistake of her life.
Abbi Glines continues to weave her magic with Never Too Far, the second novel in Rush and Blaire’s epic love story. Angst-ridden and scorching hot, Never Too Far is just as addictive as the first book and even more drama-filled. From the very first page, Abbi Glines effortlessly transported me right back to Rosemary Beach and once again, left me wanting more. While things between Rush and Blaire have definitely changed, the heart-wrenching tension between them only added fuel to the fire. Their chemistry was as palpable as ever and their undeniable connection only grew with each passing page. This installment of Rush and Blaire’s story delivered plenty of raw emotion, lighthearted humor, swoon-worthy proclamations, and an abundance of delicious flirtation. Never Too Far absolutely sparkles with Abbi Glines’ unquestionable talent. Her writing flows naturally, telling this story with a voice that is witty, fresh, and absolutely one-of-a-kind.
“I will be taking you on so many damn dates that there won’t be a person in this town that doesn’t know I worship the ground you walk on.”
I adored the character development in Never Too Far. Told in dual point of view, Rush and Blaire easily stole my heart all over again. Blaire remained genuine in her vulnerabilities and self-doubt, making me feel for her as she attempted to navigate Rush’s sometimes cruel world of privilege. She proved herself to be just as lovable and easy to connect with as before, bringing her badass southern spunk to Rosemary Beach and keeping Rush and the rest of the gang on their toes. I’m so glad we got to see things through Rush’s eyes in this book. It was definitely enlightening to get inside his head. His point of view made him easier to love at times when all I wanted to do was smack him. Abbi Glines encouraged readers to experience his private emotions and inner turmoil this time around and in turn she demonstrated Rush’s unexpected depth. I felt like I got to know him so much better in this book and the connection that this allowed me to forge with Rush was both significant and satisfying.
“He wasn’t exactly the kind of guy a man wants his daughter around but I knew he’d see in you what I saw in Becca. A lifeline. A reason to live. A reason to fight. A reason to change. He was strong. He could protect you and I knew if pushed he would.”
After the whirlwind happenings at the end of the first book, Abbi Glines had a lot of ground to cover in Never Too Far. Admittedly, there were moments where I was just so frustrated with Rush. He repeatedly made the same mistakes and his apologies began to feel hollow. But at the end of the day, it was Rush and I was a goner so I forgave him time and time again. I was definitely impressed with how well Abbi Glines balanced the emotional growth of the characters and the development of the storyline with the fun, sexy moments that kept this story so entertaining. I loved seeing all of the secondary characters back in action. Their vibrant personalities and unique relationships kept me grinning and filled my heart. The more we get to know each of the characters, the more excited I am to hear their stories in the future. Abbi Glines answers some seriously burning questions in Never Too Far, bringing clarity to the past and hope to the future for Rush and Blaire. I’m so wrapped up in their fantastic journey that every twist and turn leaves me reeling. Despite all of the drama and angst, Never Too Far maintains that enchanting quality that is all Abbi Glines and has me already craving more of Rosemary Beach.
With the release of Never Too Far, Abbi Glines dives back into the Rosemary Beach drama right where we left off. This is the second time I’ve read the book, but I forgot how much of an up and down rollercoaster the series, and Never Too Far in particular, is. There were times I laughed, times I felt sorry for all the characters involved, and of course moments I just wanted to hug them all while simultaneously slapping them to get their stuff together!
“No one lived in a fairy tale. Especially me.”
What I appreciated the most in this novel was the tremendous character growth. Both Blaire and Rush seemed to do a complete one-eighty in their personalities, and both for the better. When we first met Blaire, she was unsure and timid about so much that she was going through. At the same time, she had a bold personality and knew how to take care of herself. As we delved deeper into Never Too Far, she seemed to develop a stronger resolve. She became more and more sure of her choices and resulting actions. On the other hand, you have Rush who changed in such a short amount of time. In the first book he was such a womanizer, but I loved seeing a whole other side of him. Rush really figured out what he wanted and what was going to make him happy. In many ways, he became so much more grounded to the important things.
“You only deserve what you make yourself worthy of. Do what I couldn’t. Be a man.”
Blaire and Rush’s story has always been one of my favorites because of how much it embodies the New Adult genre. These men and women are searching to find their life path and dealing with all of life’s complicated curveballs that get thrown their way. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there is a special quality to this book, leading me to appreciate it even more than I did the first book in the series. Abbi Glines sure knows how to write angst and drama, but she makes up for it with the steam and happiness, too. I’m excited to revisit where this couple ends up in the third and final book, Forever Too Far.
