Baseball wasn’t supposed to be a game of life and death…

The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game. Chase … he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.

I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.

Then, the team started losing.

Women started dying.

And everything in my world broke apart.

Have you ever thrown names into a hat, to then reach in blindly and choose a winner? Well, every time I pick up an Alessandra Torre book, that is exactly what I feel like I’m doing. I’ll never know what genre I’ll choose, or what setting I’ll be taken to, what the characters’ personalities will be like, etc. This author has proven time and time again that she has so many surprises up her sleeve. I can’t help but come back for more whenever I hear that she’ll be releasing a new novel. Her latest creation, Moonshot, was addicting, sexy, and so intriguing; I simply couldn’t put it down!

“There was right, there was wrong, and there was love. And love trumped it all.”

I don’t know how Torre is able to consistently develop unique, refreshing storylines, but I find that no two couples of hers are ever really alike. I could see so much of myself in Ty that I took an instant liking to her. She was almost this “tomboy” who grew up around the New York Yankees since a very young age. I loved that she found camaraderie and family within the team. Rather than presenting her as bitter or troubled by the experience, Torre made readers sympathize with her and fall in love with the sound of a bat cracking and the smell of peanuts in the air right alongside her. I appreciated being able to see her grow and mature, but never truly letting go of the pieces of herself that made her Ty. Chase was your quintessential bad boy and baseball player all rolled into one. He knew that he was successful and used it to his full advantage. However, there were times when he was with Ty that you could see a deeper side of him, and it was in those moments that I found myself swooning. We don’t get much of his side of things, but I loved what they were able to bring out in each other, and it was for that reason that I yearned for them to end up together.

“Men had been killed over kisses like that. Careers had been lost. Hearts had been stolen.”

As a huge fan of baseball (and a believer of “The Curse”), I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from beginning to end. However, I think that there’s also enough outside the sports setting that people who have a dislike of the setting will still find it enjoyable. Torre’s writing is gripping and suspenseful, dropping morsels throughout, but never giving readers that full big picture until the end. Honestly, and even then, I was thrown for a loop. This author can write some steamy, sexy romance, but her thrilling and mysterious style is what intrigues me the most. It’s absolute perfection the way that she can weave these elements together to deliver an unforgettable novel.

“First loves were supposed to be flimsy and temperamental. They were supposed to burn bright and fade fast. They weren’t supposed to stick.”

I really needed a slam into me, make me giggle and swoon, angsty type of read, and I have to say that Alessandra Torre hit it out of the park; Moonshot was exactly what the doctor prescribed. If you’re looking for a summer read that will transport you to those nights on the ball field, or a nostalgic look back on first love, I highly suggest checking this book out. You certainly won’t regret it, especially after that perfection of an Epilogue!
