Can Dane save Kat? Or will her savage stalker get to her first?
Being an avid reader of MC romance, I was certainly intrigued by the premise of Kathleen Kelly’s Savage Stalker. This book wasn’t at all what I expected, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Savage Stalker straddles two worlds: Dane’s MC and Kat’s Rock Band. I enjoyed exploring the line between the two and experiencing their inevitable collision as the novel progressed. This component of the story made room for a lot of great secondary characters, many of who have me hooked and anxious to hear their own tales. I especially loved getting to know Kat’s band mates. Their vibrant personalities brought levity to the darker parts of the plot through their humor and incredible heart. With so many characters I wasn’t expecting the author to utilize points of view outside of the main couple. While I understood the purpose of introducing these characters, for the most part their perspectives didn’t add to the overall story progression and their brief chapters felt out of place and distracting. I will say however that the inclusion of the stalker’s point of view did indeed contribute to the story’s dimensionality and helped build the impending sense of danger that carried throughout the rest of the book.
“The realization that this woman is mine washes over me, and for the first time in my life, I find myself belonging to another woman. I am hers.”
Kathleen Kelly did a great job at opening up doors for the rest of the series. She touched upon several topics only to leave them for later resolution, ensuring my return for more of this series. It was a little overwhelming at the end of the book to realize how many things I didn’t know. It might have been better to save some of the questions for the next book so this one didn’t feel so open-ended despite having resolved this novel’s major issue. As individuals, I was definitely fascinated by Dane and Kat. They come from such different places and yet, when their worlds unite, some major similarities come to light (like the incredible feeling of family they’ve created for themselves). However, I needed more from both of these characters in terms of development. I never really connected with them completely because so much of their pasts (and consequently who they are at their core) were left untouched. As a couple Dane and Kat are absolutely scorching. They definitely have an undeniable chemistry and Kathleen Kelly wasn’t afraid to heat up the pages with these two. Together they were a force to be reckoned with and I very much enjoyed their battle for control and the sarcastic banter and filthy flirtations that followed. Kathleen Kelly has a lot of room to grow as a writer but her incredible potential is evident throughout this story. Savage Stalker is a good start to what promises to be a sexy, suspenseful MC series.
