LADIES AND GENTS! I have an announcement!
You know that guy I featured on my blog a few months ago? The really, really hot Irish rugby player who plays the position of ‘hooker’ in the RLI (Rugby League International)? The one with the anger management issues, the body of a gladiator and the face of a movie star? The one with the questionable fashion choices leading me to ask whether he was the lovechild of a leprechaun and a hobbit? Ronan Fitzpatrick? Yeah, that guy. Well, I have a confession to make…

THE HERMIT
Annie Catrel, social media expert extraordinaire at Davidson & Croft Media and clandestine celebrity blogger, can make anyone shine in the court of public opinion. She is the Socialmedialite, anonymous creator of New York’s Finest and the internet’s darling. Virtual reality is Annie’s forte, but actual reality? Not so much.

THE HOOKER
Ronan Fitzpatrick, aka the best hooker the world of rugby has seen in decades, despises the media–social or otherwise. The press has spun a web of lies depicting him as rugby’s wild and reckless bad boy. Suspended from his team, Ronan has come to Manhattan to escape the drama, lay low, fly under the radar. Only, Ronan isn’t easy to overlook, and he can’t escape the notice of the Socialmedialite…

THE PLAN
When Ronan is sent to Davidson & Croft Media to reshape his public image, he never expects to cross paths with shy but beautiful Annie, nor does he expect his fierce attraction to her. He couldn’t be happier when her boss suggests pairing them together.
What lengths will Annie take to keep her virtual identity concealed? And what happens when the hooker discovers who the hermit really is?

Review

Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway have written an endearing and entertaining romantic comedy with The Hooker and the Hermit. Annie and Ronan’s story was sweet, steamy, and full of feels, delivering some great emotions right alongside the easy humor and sarcastic banter. Ronan and Annie’s seemingly opposite personalities made for plenty of tension and I loved the instant chemistry that sparked between them. Not only did they share an undeniable attraction, but this couple also seemed to connect on a deeper level. While their spark pulled me in, it was this unspoken bond that kept me hooked on Annie and Ronan’s journey. I adored the emotional depth the authors infused amongst the humor. It gave this story an unexpected weight that really resonated with me. Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway weave some serious magic across the pages of this novel. Their writing is fluid, captivating, and addictive – a feat usually difficult for coauthors to achieve, but feels so easily accomplished in this book. I’ll definitely be back for more of this series.

“Right then I knew that this woman had the power to destroy me. It was a frightening prospect. She was way, way deep under my skin.”

Annie is a girl after my own heart. She’s smart, quirky, and more than a little clumsy – adorable in that kind-of-a-mess sort of way. She felt genuine in her insecurities and her quiet vulnerability tugged on my heart. I connected with her effortlessly and found myself instantly invested in her happily ever after. I loved how her relationship with Ronan was utilized to further develop this character, building her confidence and allowing her teasing, flirtatious side to make itself known. I definitely would have preferred to dive a little deeper into this character’s background. While her hesitancy to discuss her personal life made sense with her desire for anonymity initially, as she opened up to Ronan I would have liked to learn more about her history, family, etc. I did want to slap Annie sometimes and demand she see what a good thing she had going with Ronan, but I knew her inexperience and self-imposed isolation would be difficult to overcome. The authors did not let me down however, bringing Annie’s character development and this story to a close with one big, brave bang.

“You’re a bit of a tornado, aren’t you?”

Ronan was book boyfriend perfection. From his delectable physique to his Irish accent, I was swooning hard for this Rugby player. I loved that this character was portrayed as flawed, despite his so many seemingly picture-perfect attributes. He felt surprisingly genuine for someone so out of reach and I found him much easier to relate to than I had originally anticipated. Ronan had me constantly laughing with his filthy quips and endless innuendos. His passionate and fierce pursuit of Annie just made me fall that much harder for him. The authors did a great job unraveling this character through his various relationships. Annie grounded him and challenged him to be a better man, while seeing him with his family and teammates exposed a whole new side of Ronan that allowed me to really understand him on a significant level.

“I know what I’m missing, Annie. You are singular to me, exceptional. You’re brilliant and adorable and so fucking real. I care about you. And I haven’t been able to get the taste of you, the feel of you, out of my head since we first kissed.”

I absolutely adored the concept for this storyline. Whenever opposites attract, secrets are kept, and life is lived in the limelight you’re bound to have some awkward encounters and over the top drama. Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway definitely didn’t disappoint as I grinned my way through Annie and Ronan’s story. While The Hooker and the Hermit certainly had its more predictable plot points, there was so much of the authors’ personal flare ingrained throughout the book that I didn’t mind the handful of cliché or overly cheesy moments. Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway filled this story with plenty of heart, an abundance of humor, and just enough steam to keep me furiously flipping the pages. Except for a couple places where I felt like the story needed to move forward a little more quickly, the pacing was ideal for keeping me invested in the novel. The authors worked together seamlessly, their fresh voices and socially relevant humor the perfect match for co-writing this fun, lighthearted book. I can’t wait to read more from this fantastic writing duo!
