Alexis Kidd sells her body. Not because she wants to, but because she needs to. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to support her family and survive.
Now she must dance for a man hiding behind a veil.
But when the urge to take a look grows too strong … Alexis gets more than she bargained for.
More than Viktor was willing to give.
Inspired by a fairytale, VIKTOR is a standalone Contemporary Romance by New York Times & USA Today Bestselling author Clarissa Wild.
Clarissa Wild takes the classic Beauty and the Beast tale and gives it an erotic, suspenseful twist with Viktor. This novel is a step back from the darker stories she’s written and fits more into the contemporary/romantic suspense subgenre. Initially, Alexis and Victor couldn’t seem more opposite. Alexis bares all for complete strangers and isn’t ashamed of her work as a prostitute, so long as she is making her own way in the world. Victor, on the other hand, hides himself away, allowing his scars and way other people perceive him to define his life. From the moment Alexis and Viktor meet, a palpable charge becomes evident between them. Clarissa Wild has created a fantastic chemistry for this couple. Even before they lay eyes on one another, something heady begins to take root and Clarissa makes sure her readers can feel every bit of that friction. It was that unexpected pull that reeled me into this story and kept me reading, eager to find out where this couple would eventually end up.
“The only girl who didn’t fear me, who fought back against me with every inch of her strength… Gone. Just like that. I let her go. It was for her own good.”
Both Alexis and Viktor proved to be incredibly intriguing as their story unfolded. While they both harbored secrets, the time they spent together unraveled their worlds and encouraged them both to grow. I adored Alexis in all of her fierce and unapologetic glory. She had a confidence and willfulness that made her the perfect match for the carefully controlled Viktor. I honestly didn’t expect to feel as much for her as I did but Clarissa Wild subtly broke through her bravado and revealed a vulnerable woman who just sought to be wanted for more than her body and needed for more than only one night. It was Alexis’ surprising insecurities that allowed me to connect with and grow to care for this character. Viktor, like most of Clarissa’s male leads, was an enigma. I loved seeing him caught off guard by Alexis. As she pushed him to open up, he unveiled the man behind the mask and I found my heart aching for all he had been through and reeling from the scars, both physical and emotional, his life had left him with. Once again, Clarissa Wild has written an unexpected hero that stole my heart against all odds.
“When his mouth touches mine, I’m lost to him. Lost to his touch, his taste, his overpowering lips. God, he was right when he said it was powerful.”
In true Clarissa Wild fashion, Viktor is an intriguing story that is equal parts curiously suspenseful and deliciously scorching. Alexis and Viktor incinerate the pages with their filthy hot encounters while the plot tension builds with every half-truth and carefully guarded secret our characters expose. An equally fascinating cast of secondary characters rounds out this story, helping to bring Clarissa’s fictional world to life. The storyline flows easily, aided by the colorful imagery and passionate dialogue, making Viktor a relatively quick read. Once again, Clarissa Wild weaves hidden connections to her other novels throughout this story, giving readers acquainted with her previous work a satisfying sense of familiarity. Clarissa has expertly planned this story, dropping breadcrumbs along the way to lead readers to the truth about Viktor and his past, yet when his story is totally revealed, I still found myself caught off guard. Viktor is another great reading experience from Clarissa Wild. This novel is an adventure in lust, passion, and love that will make your blood burn and your heart falter in all the right ways.
Without looking away, I grab the cereal and milk and pour them into my bowl. She takes another bite of her cereal, never taking her eyes off mine as I put the spoon in and taste it.
And then we sit and eat … and stare.
“Okay …” Winston says, and he grabs a newspaper and sits down on a stool in the kitchen and blocks us out while reading.
I don’t care. I’m not talking and neither is she. I’m not going to give her any more excuses to make a run for it, and she’s not telling me what she really thought when she saw me, so …
Something’s stuck to my face.
Sticky … milky … cereal.
And her face. It turns from a full-on frown to full-blown laughter.
She places her hand over her mouth, but it can’t hide her sly smile.
Grinding my teeth, I wipe my face off with a napkin and cock my head at her.
Slowly, I put the spoon back into the bowl, watching her stare as I bring it up to my face.
And then I quickly turn it around and catapult it at her.
It smashes right into her forehead.
I grin as it drips off her, and the smile is wiped off her face immediately.
“Motherfucker,” she growls, and she grabs another spoonful. “Oh, it’s on.”
Suddenly, we’re in an all-out war.
Cereal and milk flies everywhere. Spoons too.
“Hey! Watch it! I just bought new China,” Winston says, putting down his newspaper.
“Eat shit!” Alexis yells, throwing her entire bowl at my face.
I only barely manage to catch the bowl, without its contents … which are now splashed over my chest and the floor.
“Oh, now you’ve done it,” I growl, and I pick up my bowl, stand up, walk toward her … and throw it over the top of her head.
She squeals as the cold milk runs over her body, which only a thin nightgown covers. Her instantly hardening nipples catch my attention. They’re hard to miss, and I swallow back the emerging lust.
“Fuck. You’ll pay for that.”
Her fingers are on my chest before I know it, twisting my nipples.
“Ow! Fuck,” I scream, grabbing her wrists. “No, bad Lexi.”
“Woof,” she says, laughing.
I shake my head, laughing too.
I’m fucking angry she threw her food at me, but it was fucking fun too. I can’t decide which one is more important to feel right now.
But when I look into her eyes, everything ceases to matter.
