Title – Reflected in You
Author – Sylvia Day
Series – Crossfire #2
Gideon Cross. As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. He was my addiction… my every desire… mine.
My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful… except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity.
We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession…
I honestly can’t get enough of this couple. Gideon and Eva with their push and pull of a relationship is just one that has left an impression on me since the first time I was introduced to them. Reflected in You dug a little bit deeper into their pasts, into their relationships, and definitely tested what it was they had. This is only the second book in the series, but you can tell these characters have so much more to say. Sylvia Day surely knows how to give morsels of taste that leave you savoring each and every bite.
“His kisses were gifts. He kissed with everything he had, with power and passion and hunger and love. He held nothing back, giving everything, exposing everything.”
I think what I appreciate about the Crossfire series is the portrayal of the relationship. For anyone who has had something happen to them, we know it leaves its mark. We are presented with two characters who both come from painful pasts and aren’t sure how to let it not color their current relationship. The character development in Reflected in You was what really impressed me. Through therapy sessions, we learn that they each use sex as a distracter, and though we already knew it, we get more of the why behind it. Eva started to really put her foot down and be healthier in her choices, despite her desire and I admired that. Gideon is a mysterious up and down man in this installment, but he still somehow burrows underneath your skin. His possessive alpha trait is one that is dominating yet gentle and it’s such a perfect ratio for when they’re together.
“Our relationship was swiftly becoming a minefield of words left unsaid and secrets not shared.”
Though I predicted where the overall journey was going from relatively early on in the story, I still really appreciated the ride of it all. The element of suspense that was introduced was a great addition to the series. My heart raced, I got emotional in some places, and felt all the anxiety in others. Reflected in You is a story of many dimensions with a whole lot of emotion packed into a punch. I’m definitely excited to see where the end game for Gideon and Eva is!
