Bared to You

Synopsis

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private worlds…and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…

 Review

It’s not often that I have time for a re-read, but with the release of the final book in the Crossfire series, I knew that I’d need a refresher on my favorite alpha. Sylvia Day has delivered a novel that, despite long periods of wait between releases, has left an impression on me. No matter what alpha male I encounter in the books I read, I somehow always find myself comparing them to the hero I met years ago in Bared to You.

“You’ve got to have as many good times as bad, or it all becomes too painful and too much work.”

There’s something about the way Day writes these characters that is simply mesmerizing. They are so different in their personalities, yet so much alike. Honestly, their back and forth banter was one of my favorite things to watch play out. It was combatant at times, but fun and youthful on others. Eva had such a strong-willed, independent nature about her. She never simply rolled over to Gideon, yet those erotic moments where she surrendered are so powerful as well. On the other side of the coin, everything about Gideon’s personality screamed dominant, hard, and unwavering. Yet, when it came to Eva, he was somehow quite pliable. It gave off the impression that Gideon wasn’t just infatuated with her; he was inexplicably drawn to her. Together, their chemistry was off the charts and every encounter built this tension that is so difficult to describe with words. Through the author’s writing, I was able to feel the fluttering in my stomach from the characters’ nervousness, their desire, and absolutely everything in between.

“He was as broken as I was, in a way I didn’t yet know about.”

When I first encountered Bared to You, it easily became one of my favorites. It didn’t feel like straight smut, though the erotic factor is surely up there. I loved the complexity of Sylvia Day’s characters and the effortless feel of the overall writing. Sylvia Day is a storyteller with the way she weaves together romance, steam, and a bit of suspense. There is a reason this author is so well known and I have a feeling Bared to You just scratches the surface!
