With time ticking down, the couple are in a race to find the answers they need before they lose everything. Can they regain what they once had? And will it restore who they once were?
After an agonizing cliffhanger, Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher finally delivered the exciting conclusion to the Never Never serial with this novella. Never Never: Part Three was full of sweet surprises and intriguing revelations that made me fall even deeper in love with Charlie and Silas. Complete with an epilogue that had me swooning, Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher served up one last dose of the thrilling mystery, fated love, and delightful mischief I’d come to love from this serial. Filled with poignant prose and magical imagery, this novella was beautifully written, effortlessly pulling me right back into Colleen and Tarryn’s wonderfully unique world. Never Never: Part Three was fast paced and had my heart racing as Charlie and Silas tried to unearth the truth about what was happening to them. Their story was over all too soon and I was definitely sad to see it end.
“Who would have thought that our lives that fit so perfectly together would – almost overnight – become unrecognizable?”
One of the great things about this series has been uncovering which pieces of the two main characters were inherent to them and which were learned or circumstantial. As Charlie and Silas were forced to repeatedly start from scratch, it became clear which aspects of their personalities were genuine to the characters. Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher did a great job unraveling these two, making them not only lovable, but also relatable, despite the unbelievable circumstances of their story. As they scoured through old letters, read journal entries, and questioned their siblings, we really got to know them on a much deeper level in this novella. It gave their relationship a strong sense of history, not only providing a solid foundation for them to build on, but also giving their quest for answers a whole new dimensionality.
“I don’t want him to hate me. I just don’t want him to love me anymore.”
I did feel like the story was lacking in regards to other issues going on in Silas and Charlie’s world that deserved explanation. The trouble with their fathers was resolved rather abruptly as if the authors were quickly trying to close that storyline without providing any understanding of motivation or feelings. After the rather large role both of their siblings played in this novella, and the story as a whole, I found myself invested in them only to be left wondering: what did the future hold for Landon and Janette? What happened with Charlie’s mom? Why was Silas’ mother never around? Silas and Charlie’s world and the secondary characters that filled it didn’t get the attention I felt they deserved and I had definitely hoped for a more extensive conclusion for this series.
“Charlize, it’s really sexy when you get deep and say stuff like that. So unless you want to play another round of Silas says, you might want to lay off the deep thinking.”
As far as our couple goes, I really did enjoy the resolution of Silas and Charlie’s relationship. The reason for their memory loss, while not at all what I expected, seemed to fit them so perfectly. It also held up well with the fact that they had to get to know themselves and each other all over again every 48 hours until they were able to finally put the pieces of the puzzle together. Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher didn’t disappoint when it came to Charlie and Silas and even though I wanted more from the rest of the story, I loved the way their storyline wrapped up. Overall, Never Never: Part Three was a captivating, thrilling, and surprisingly sweet end to what has been an incredible series.
Finally! The conclusion and answers to Charlie and Silas’ story! I feel like I’ve been waiting for the end of the Never, Never journey for so long now. Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher are phenomenal writers who collaborated on this project about two characters who needed to figure out where they wanted to go in life. Through issues bigger than their own, they were forced to reexamine everything they thought they knew in order to figure out where they would go. It took the coming of age, young to new adult transition, storyline and gave it a unique and refreshing twist.
“We can’t take back who we’ve been in the past, Charlie. But we can control who we are in the present.”
In terms of what happened to Charlie and Silas and why they continued to lose their memories, I was very satisfied with how the authors chose to explain it. Their story felt cute and one hundred percent complete by the end. However, there were other loose ends that I felt utterly in the dark about. For example, neither sibling is mentioned in the Epilogue, Shrimp isn’t brought up and given a satisfactory ending, despite her role in the first two novellas, and Charlie’s mother is left in the dust, never to be seen again. Further, while we briefly get an idea of what happened with their fathers, I would have certainly liked that drawn out a little further in order to understand motivations behind some of his actions.
“Maybe it has nothing to do with anyone else and everything to do with us.”
The idea behind their memory loss was one I actually loved very, very much, and to see it appear marginally in the epilogue actually made me giddy. Without going into spoilers or giving anything away, it certainly is a fair idea to play around with in the world of romance novels. I’m always impressed with both Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher individually, but it was an awesome treat to have them come together and deliver something that was exciting and mysterious, yet uniquely their own voices.
