Wallbanger

Synopsis

Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a Kitchen Aid mixer to die for, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O. Adding insult to O-less, she also has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Every moan, spank, and—was that a meow?—punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has—yep, you guessed it—no O. Enter Simon Parker. When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has…well…mixed results. Because with walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick. A delicious mix of silly and steamy, this is an irresistible tale of exasperation at first sight.

Review

Alice Clayton is the queen of romantic comedies! Wallbanger is the perfect showcase of this author’s fantastic talent. Wallbanger overflows with inimitable characters and hilarious banter, guaranteeing an unforgettable reading experience that will leave you anxious to devour everything else this author has written. Simon and Caroline’s story was a storm of humor, heat, and heart that managed to flawlessly balance the entertainment and emotional value of their journey. This couple was easy to love, as was their world of mischievous friends, snarky commentary, and misbehaved felines. Alice Clayton writes with a fluidity and precision that brought this vibrant world to life. I could see the pages of Wallbanger taking shape in my head, Alice Clayton’s words seemingly effortless but hitting their mark every single time. Wallbanger is youthful, witty, and socially relevant – a blend of classic comedy and popular culture fueling the humor that made this novel absolutely sparkle.

“I keep my private life private – with the exception of my neighbor with the thin walls and the devastating lingerie.”

Simon and Caroline have a relationship unlike any other. I fell for these two hard and fast, totally addicted to their undeniably explosive chemistry and unexpected connection. From the beginning, these two pushed each other’s buttons in a way that created a delicious friction. The tension Alice Clayton generated between Caroline and Simon was palpable, a slow burn that quickly became all-consuming. They bickered, teased, and flirted their way into my heart, keeping me grinning from start to finish. This couple had an ease about them that felt somehow familiar, securing my total investment in their happily ever after. I absolutely adored Caroline, quickly finding myself connecting with her. She was so genuine in her insecurities, flaws, and inability to filter her inner monologue. Alice Clayton did a great job developing this character over the course of the story. Allowing us to see her with her friends, at work, and totally relaxed at home gave Caroline a depth and dimensionality that was fun, fresh, and decidedly memorable.

“Simon does commando. God bless America.”

Alice Clayton rounded out the Wallbanger universe with some phenomenal secondary characters that proved to be unforgettable in their own rights. The insane conversations and absurd antics that followed this crew had me doubled over in laughter. In addition to the well-timed sarcasm and ridiculous characters, Wallbanger boasts an enchanting storyline. The concept is lighthearted, sexy, sweet, and incredibly sassy, everything I love in a romantic comedy. However, it is the surprisingly poignant and emotionally weighted moments that made Simon and Caroline’s journey so completely mesmerizing. Alice Clayton delivered real heart as we got to know Simon and Caroline throughout this book, their pasts eliciting moments of vulnerability that gave me all those warm and fuzzy feelings. Wallbanger is a comedic masterpiece and Alice Clayton’s sense of humor is infectious. Her hilarious story and vibrant characters will have you hooked and you’ll find yourself catching the Alice Clayton bug in no time!
