LOVE…sometimes it’s good. Sometimes it’s bad. And sometimes it’s dangerous.
Brooke Stewart, a realtor in New York, is sure of one of thing. She should never fully trust someone who has secrets. Especially when said bad boy is the sexiest man walking on earth. She is running away and has no intention of ever returning to him. But when a friend is killed and the one man she thought she would never meet again is accused of murder, she knows the story doesn’t add up.
Dangerously sexy and arrogant millionaire Jett Mayfield knows his secrets are not doing him any favors. However, when they serve to save Brooke’s life, he has no intention of revealing them. When problems spiral out of control and his life is turned upside down, he knows he needs her more than ever. He needs her more than he knows. But will he be strong enough to do what needs to be done?
In a world where truth shatters and danger is closing in on them, where love is their only sanctuary, will they be able to find each other or is it time to let each other go?
I have been anxiously awaiting the release of The Lover’s Surrender by J.C. Reed for some time now! I was on pins and needles waiting to see how Reed would choose to end Brooke and Jett’s story in this final piece of the No Exceptions series. It definitely had some suspense, a dash of heat, and certainly a sweet factor that I wouldn’t have expected from the Jett I had come to know.
“As long as I still loved her, which I knew would be forever, or as long as forever existed, I would fight for us.”
I felt like Brooke got a lot of her fierceness back in The Lover’s Surrender. She didn’t roll over and fall apart after everything she had been through. Instead, she opened her eyes and listened to the others around her – but not in a pushover sort of way. She really embraced the lifestyle that she would be getting into with Jett as a part of her life, and it made me love her even more. There was a moment toward the end of the novel where I thought to myself, “Yes! This is Brooke!” because it was such a stand by your man, protective instance. I loved getting to see that personality trait on her, rather than just Jett. However, especially after the third book in the series, I really was craving more from the hero of our series. I wanted more chapters from his point of view to know exactly what was going through his head rather than seeing it all colored through Brooke’s eyes. With so many extraneous, high-pressure moments happening, I think that it would have helped to keep me a little more invested to have his take on everything.
“I’ve always known that life can both suck and surprise in the same instant. I just had no idea how much if could.”
The only issue that I had with this final piece is that I felt like there was a bit of a lackluster climax. There was so much build up that I expected to have it drawn out a little bit more and see how consequences played out. However, once the strings begin to be tied up, that was it; we had a resolution and there was nothing more. The Lover’s Surrender is an action-packed, steamy conclusion to the series by J.C. Reed. It will leave readers gasping for more one moment, while panting in steaminess the next. I have no doubt that J.C. Reed will find success in her next project, as I’ve adored everything she has put out. I highly recommend this series to readers – especially if they love a little suspense with their romance!
