Reapers and Bastards

Synopsis

Charming Bastard: A Novella
I first met Riley Boone when I was four years old. We moved to Callup, Idaho after my dad blew out his back and had to go on disability. Boonie’s family lived next to ours. Every afternoon he’d swagger off the school bus after kindergarten like a conquering king. For the first week he ignored me, until I impressed him by climbing nearly thirty feet up in the tree behind his trailer. They had to call the fire department to get me down, but it was worth it to see the respect in his five-year-old eyes. He gave me a worm in honor of my accomplishment. I fell in love. The next day he made me eat the worm and our relationship has been complicated ever since.

Sticky Sweet: A Short Story
Horse and Marie met for the first time in Reaper’s Property. Now experience this moment through his eyes.

Skunked: A Short Story
Marie has some BIG news to share with Horse—news that will change both their lives forever….

Sugar and Spice: A Short Story
A prequel to Reaper’s Fall, this story features Painter and Melanie’s first meeting.

Review

Charming Bastard: A Novella (Silver Valley #1.5)

Having seen Boonie and Darcy together, I wouldn’t have guessed they had such a tumultuous past. A few bumps along the way, sure, but my heart ached for them as the universe seemed hell bent on making things difficult for them. Through the tragedy and hurt, Joanna Wylde gave these two a feeling of being fated that made their story so incredibly special. I’m a sucker for childhood friends that fall in and out of love with each other because there is just something undeniably beautiful about the sweet innocence of childhood growing into a true and all-consuming love. Now that I know what they’ve been through, I’ll probably be grinning every time I encounter them in future books. Charming Bastard had a little bit of everything I’ve come to love about Joanna Wylde’s writing. Sizzling chemistry, heartfelt characters, snarky banter, and a thrilling storyline kept me absolutely mesmerized by this novella. Charming Bastard was heart wrenching, pulse pounding, and over way too soon!

Sticky Sweet: A Short Story

Gah! I absolutely adored seeing this scene from Horse’s point of view. The moment he met Marie was intense and from her point of view it was totally confusing. We had no idea what was going through his head and he certainly had no problem pushing her buttons despite having just met. It was deeply satisfying seeing her through his eyes and feeling that immediate spark between them. Joanna Wylde revealed Horse’s motivations for how he acted towards Marie and hinted at the early feelings of something deeper developing between Horse and Marie. This scene was over too soon, and had me wanting to go back to the beginning of this series. Joanna Wylde had me falling in love with Horse and Marie all over again!

Skunked: A Short Story

This short story was so much fun! For starters, this story was just hilarious. The absurdity of being interrupted while discussing serious, life-altering news by something so totally ridiculous was definitely amusing. I also have to applaud Joanna Wylde for her ability to condense everything I’ve grown to love about Horse and Marie into so few pages. Skunked brought to life the scorching heat, intense emotions, fantastic banter, and delicious friction that sizzles between these two and makes them so irresistible. Joanna delivers a much needed dose of Horse’s fierce alpha personality, giving us a glimpse of the possessive, jealous, passionate man that knows how to drive Marie crazy like no one else can. Marie’s own feisty and stubborn nature made an appearance as well, pushing back at Horse and ramping up the sexual tension to those explosive levels I’ve come to adore from these two. Joanna Wylde expertly captured the essence of Marie and Horse, their individual personalities and fabulous relationship dynamic in this fun, sexy, silly short story that was the perfect addition to their journey.

Sugar and Spice: A Short Story

Joanna Wylde is such a tease! I absolutely loved this short story about Painter and Melanie’s first meeting. This author undoubtedly knows what she’s doing because she left me incredibly anxious for Reaper’s Fall! Since we witnessed their first encounter from an outsider’s point of view in Reaper’s Stand, I was excited to see it from their perspective. I wondered what Mel was thinking and whether Painter’s motivations were straightforward or not. Even from the outside their connection was obvious so I couldn’t wait to get inside their heads. Joanna Wylde let us glimpse the beginning of their friendship from both points of view, allowing us to see each character through the other’s eyes. Despite the short length of this story, Joanna gives us a peek at the initial character development, action-packed story, and entertaining exchanges she has in store for Mel and Painter. The chemistry between them crackled and even though I knew how this short story would end, I still found myself wishing for a different outcome. Joanna Wylde has definitely laid the groundwork for a fun, sexy, and surprisingly emotional full-length novel for this couple and I’m totally ready to dive in. Sugar and Spice is the perfect way to get acquainted with Painter and Melanie before experiencing the next piece of their story in Reaper’s Fall.
