Title: Wicked Ties
Author: A.D. Justice
Series: Steele Security #2
What if every long-held belief had been a lie?
What if learning the truth changed everything?
Colton “Bull” Lanier thought he had his life all figured out. His trust was hard earned. He let no one see the man inside. He didn’t believe in love and he didn’t get involved. That is, until she walked into his life.
There was more to Steele Security’s newest client, Chaise, than what met the eye. She was in trouble but she also had secrets she kept close to the vest. With her life in danger, Bull reluctantly agreed to protect her and help find her missing intern.
When their attraction flared hot enough to scorch them, Bull gave Chaise something very rare–his trust. But as worlds collide, lifelong secrets were revealed that made Bull question everything he’d ever believed. When Chaise disappeared, the men of Steele Security were on the case. But, would she be found in time?
Compassion. Trust. Affection.
Callous. Suspicious. Distant.
With his world twisted by the wicked ties, which traits would define Bull?
A.D. Justice has done it again! Wicked Ties is a thrilling, hot, action packed follow-up to Wicked Games and a fantastic story of family and forgiveness. I loved seeing Noah and Brianna moving forward in their lives after everything they experienced in the first book, but Wicked Ties definitely belonged to Colton and Chaise. It’s been obvious from the start that the woman who won Bull’s heart was going to have to be someone incredibly special and A.D. Justice did not disappoint. I connected effortlessly to Chaise and found myself undeniably invested in her developing relationship with Colton. Unlike Noah and Brianna, these two went in knowing that anything between them was going to be an uphill battle, but that still didn’t prepare me for the fight they would face or the intense emotions I would experience on their journey. I think I love them even more than I did Noah and Brianna. I got lost in the unique connection and unquestionable chemistry that sizzled between them from the start, really feeling the thrill, intensity, and high stakes of their budding relationship.
“The feeling of belonging to someone in that sense, of surrendering all to him to love and care for her, wasn’t so scary. It was comforting and fulfilling. She just hoped she was right, because he owned her, he possessed her, and she willingly surrendered her all to him.”
Colton aka Bull is a man of action. He doesn’t always know how to say what he’s thinking or feeling, but he knows how to show it. This particular personality trait was often times infuriating and incredibly frustrating, but it also almost always led to some seriously scorching moments. I adored the way A.D. Justice took Colton through a gradual evolution, trying him and pushing him to open up and allow himself to be fully exposed to Chaise. The end result of this character’s transformation was incredibly moving. Chaise, on the other hand, struggled with her inability to rely on men. When she finds herself in a position where asking for help is unavoidable, she becomes incredibly vulnerable and that is where A.D. Justice did a superb job with this character. Trusting in others wasn’t easy for Chaise. She didn’t simply hand over everything she knew and do as she was told. She struggled to be completely transparent and refused to heed every command thrown at her, giving her an authenticity that I could appreciate. This also made each small concession on her part all the more sweet and her overall growth that much more significant.
“Bull, it’s not about how many times she gets knocked down. She shows how strong she is just by the mere fact that she gets back up every time.”
I have to say, the storyline of this series has me completely enthralled. I love seeing the Steele Security men in action. There is something so satisfying in their teamwork and obvious sense of family that has me absolutely addicted to these characters. A.D. Justice writes in a way that captures the feeling of each situation so completely, leaving me white-knuckling my kindle with my heart pounding as I experienced the rollercoaster of emotions that is Wicked Ties. I love the way A.D. so expertly balanced the sweet romance, lighthearted teasing, thrilling mystery, and intense emotion of this story. Just when things would get too intense, a blush-inducing scene or a moment of levity would have me grinning and ready to face the next plot twist. As new characters came into the picture, I found myself more and more excited to see how they would eventually fit into the Steele Security family and where A.D. Justice plans on taking their roll in the series. I can’t wait to see what is next for the Steele Security series and I hope we’ll be learning more about Shadow and Rebel. Wicked Ties was the perfect addition to this series, truly an adventure from beginning to end.
