Title – Palm South University
Author – Kandi Steiner
Series – Palm South University: Season One
Drama. Lies. Sex.
Welcome to Palm South University.
The weather isn’t the only thing heating up in South Florida. At a school where fraternities and sororities don’t exactly play by the rules, relationships are bound to be tested. Parties and sex are definitely key ingredients in the Palm South recipe, but what happens when family issues, secret lives, and unrequited love get tossed in the mix?
Follow Cassie, Bear, Jess, Skyler, Erin, Ashlei, and Adam as they tackle college at a small, private beach town university. Written in television drama form, each episode of this serial will pull you deeper and deeper into the world of PSU.
Where the sun is hot and the clothes are scarce, anything can happen.
The first episode of Palm South University is a quick read that will introduce you to a group of college kids if you haven’t read Black Number Four, or leave you revisiting old friends if you have. With a push from her long-time best friend, Cassie decided to rush a sorority and was then faced with a big decision. As a girl who rushed a sorority in college, I have to say that it was kind of thrilling to be on that ride with her. I enjoyed hearing that my experiences were unique, but my feelings were not. It made what these characters were going through that much more relatable. Throughout the novella, readers receive viewpoints from three different characters – Cassie, Bear, and Jess. My only issue is that I didn’t totally understand the point of Jess’s chapter. It seemed like a little bit of filler rather than being crucial to the story given the grand scheme of things happening in this installment. However, I’m hoping that it will make more sense as I delve deeper into the Palm South University serial. Kandi Steiner is an excellent writer who definitely knows how to leave a taste in your mouth for this sexy, fun crew. You’ll be wanting more the moment you finish! Rating — 4 Stars
While the first episode felt like Cassie’s story because of the way the characters were introduced, Episode Two had a much different overall tone. It seemed to be a lot more inclusive of the group as a whole, which I really appreciated. I enjoyed this second installment more than the first so I’m curious and intrigued to see how the rest of the serial will continue. Whenever I pick up a new volume, I feel like I’m sneaking away to get in a half hour of dirty soap opera reality TV watching. Steiner’s writing is certainly addictive and tantalizing. She knows how to play to her audience for a fun read, but never giving away too much. Even though there is a little bit of heavier material with some of the characters in Episode Two, it never really delves into that deeper New Adult genre, but in a good way. I don’t feel like the characters are figuring out who they are or where they want to end up. They’re living their lives and enjoying the moment, which is definitely a nice reprieve from some of the more emotional books I’ve read lately. Rating — 4 Stars
These chapters are from characters we haven’t previously gotten voices from so it felt like the beginning of a new season in some ways. I love the way all the characters mingle and go together, but I sort of wish that it focused more on a couple characters or had a chapter from each character in every episode. However, I can say that the serial does continue to get better and better as I get into the books more. These characters were probably some of my favorites because their problems didn’t necessarily center around themselves. There were outside influences and pressures that they needed to deal with. I’m definitely curious to see who is featured in Episode Four and where Steiner decides to take these girls and guys. However, I’m also left incredibly curious as to where the other characters from the first two episodes are and what they are up to. I’m feeling like I’m in the middle of a soap opera and I just can’t stop watching! Rating — 4 Stars
And the plot thickens! I was definitely a lot more intrigued in this installment of Palm South University. It felt a lot more put together than the previous three. I was so excited to see Kandi Steiner pulling readers in deeper. Of all the episodes that have been released, this is by far my favorite. We were back to seeing the happenings of the crew through Skyler, Cassie, and Jess, and boy did it get good! I think what I appreciated most was that it centered mostly around one big event – Halloween. It made me feel like the characters weren’t leading separate lives, but instead, their paths crossed and therefore, their stories felt a lot more organic. It was that episode that comes in a reality show where everyone ends up together resulting in drama, suspense, and trouble. If you’ve loved the series so far, buckle up because I have a feeling we have NO idea where Steiner will be taking this college crew next! Rating — 4.5 Stars
EEEK! I feel like Kandi Steiner has hit her groove with the Palm South University crew in this fifth installment. She’s found her way with the second half of the first season and I’m really becoming more engrossed. This episode centers around Ashlei, Adam, Bear, and Jess. In the first couple episodes, I was a little upset that we heard from so many characters, but in these later installments, it’s actually working for Steiner. The characters are mingling more so it just feels like you’re getting different points of views rather than whole new situations. I really love that Episode Five felt full of action. There was so much going on, yet centered around events we’ve been introduced to before so it wasn’t chaotic or confusing. I am a little worried as to how it will all be resolved with only one episode left in the season, but I have faith that Kandi Steiner will not disappoint. Palm South University is a sizzling, fun serial and it’s definitely getting hotter. This author sure knows how to give her readers what they want so I look forward to see just how big of a bang Season One will end in. Rating — 4.5 Stars
Gahhhh! With the release of Episode Six, I’m kind of sad that I won’t have a dose of this crew every week and pretty much want to start my begging of Steiner for more. The sixth episode had a lot going on, and while some characters’ storylines were a little cliffhanger-ish, there were other ones that made me shriek contentedly. This installment had a chapter from every character so we really got a sense of where everyone would be left off and what direction they were headed in. However, that also brought a lot of disconnect in the greater picture. There were very few scenes with everyone together so there were times that my mind did feel a little scatterbrained. There were some huge revelations though and I can say I salivated – legit salivated – during parts of this one. Kandi Steiner left these characters open to so many possibilities in the next semester. I’ve loved having these short fun reads every week, and now that all the characters have been introduced and given a back story, Steiner has so much creative room in the second season! I definitely can’t wait! Rating — 4 Stars

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.
Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).
When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.
