From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in her beloved Rosemary Beach series, which continues the story of Mase and Reese from When I’m Gone.
“She was where my home would always be. It was time I took the next step and proved to her I was all in. Forever.”
A chance meeting in Rosemary Beach has turned into a fairy-tale romance as Reese prepares to move in with Mase on his family ranch in Texas. With the loving support of the Colts, and her recent discovery that she has family of her own, Reese can finally move on from the dark horrors of her past and into a bright future.
But Aida isn’t going to let that happen. The beautiful blonde has been raised to think of Mase as her cousin, but it’s clear to Reese that Aida doesn’t love Mase like a cousin should.
And then there’s Captain, the inescapable stranger who has connections in Dallas and Rosemary Beach—and who conveniently shows up wherever Reese happens to be. Hot, mysterious, and plain-speaking, Captain isn’t afraid to tell Reese what he thinks about Mase—and how he feels about her.
As the competition for Mase and Reese’s hearts heats up, Reese’s past begins to unravel, illuminating shocking truths that will forever change the lives of the happy couple—and set the final stories of Rosemary Beach in motion.
There is something about the way Abbi Glines writes her novels that leaves me so completely satisfied, yet always wanting to come back for more. From the moment I finished When You’re Gone, I knew that Mase and Reese had a special story; I sensed that two books would never feel like enough and boy was I right. For as much as I enjoyed their story in the first book, seeing these characters in a different element in When You’re Back was incredibly special. I love when a novel can force me to experience all different types of emotions, and this one certainly hit plenty of them.
“I wasn’t sure which was worse, loving and losing or not ever knowing that kind of love at all.”
Reese was like a blossoming flower in this book and I really appreciated being on that journey. Watching her find her voice and becoming more comfortable with herself was something special to witness, and even inspirational in some ways. Even though she had moments of insecurity, she learned to trust herself and exert her independence. I also really enjoyed seeing a whole other side to Mase. He was always so bull-headed and protective of Harlow, but with jealously fueling his emotions, his actions came across so differently in When You’re Back. I loved watching the transformation of a man who had no time for love, to someone who was utterly captivated by the gift he stumbled across. He also maintained his relationship with Harlow, which made me feel like, he was still the Mase Manning I fell in love with earlier in the series and that the transformation wasn’t him losing pieces of himself.
“Don’t let your weakness define you, Reese. Ever. Your strengths should define you.”
I have to say that I was quite surprised with the twist that occurs in this book. I can’t say I was expecting it and it certainly left me slack jawed for a few moments. However, there were moments that I wish the scenes dug a little bit deeper into the meat. There are a couple instances that left me questioning the bigger reason they were included. I’m not sure if it was to set up character integrity or just for fun, so I’ll be curious to see where the future books in the series goes. That being said, I absolutely loved the strong theme of family and what it means weaved throughout. We don’t get to choose our blood, but that doesn’t mean we can’t choose family. What a strong, pertinent message to send!
“Her past won’t ever disappear. It’s there inside her. She will deal with it for the rest of her life.”
Overall, I could never be disappointed with an Abbi Glines novel. She has become an automatic one-click author for me because she somehow delivers each and every time. When You’re Back is a heartwarming tale of family, love, growth, and acceptance. It is a woman’s journey to independence and a man’s lesson in life. After finishing, I’m definitely excited to see what else the Rosemary Beach crew has in store for us!

Abbi Glines is a #1 New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rosemary Beach, Sea Breeze, Vincent Boys, and Existence series. She has a new YA series coming out in the fall of 2015 titled The Field Party Series . She never cooks unless baking during the Christmas holiday counts. She believes in ghosts and has a habit of asking people if their house is haunted before she goes in it. She drinks afternoon tea because she wants to be British but alas she was born in Alabama. When asked how many books she has written she has to stop and count on her fingers. When she’s not locked away writing, she is reading, shopping (major shoe and purse addiction), sneaking off to the movies alone, and listening to the drama in her teenagers lives while making mental notes on the good stuff to use later. Don’t judge.
