Title: Easy
Author: Tammara Webber
Series: Contours of the Heart #1
Release Date: October 9, 2012

When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup two months into sophomore year. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she’s single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Leaving a party alone, Jacqueline is assaulted by her ex’s frat brother. Rescued by a stranger who seems to be in the right place at the right time, she wants nothing more than to forget the attack and that night – but her savior, Lucas, sits on the back row of her econ class, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. Her friends nominate him to be the perfect rebound.

When her attacker turns stalker, Jacqueline has a choice: crumple in defeat or learn to fight back. Lucas remains protective, but he’s hiding secrets of his own. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

Easy was one of the first New Adult books I ever read and I found myself quickly falling for Jacqueline and Lucas. In fact, I’ve read this book several times over, each time finding another reason to love these beautiful characters and their incredible journey. Tammara Webber has perfected the New Adult voice, reflecting the emotions, insecurities, and mishaps of being a young adult and college student. Tammara also writes fearlessly, confronting tough issues head on and laying out the ugly truth and devastating repercussions of experiencing what Jacqueline did. The candor and grace displayed throughout Jacqueline’s story is one I know will resonate deeply with anyone who has ever been in our heroine’s shoes. Even in the darker moments of this story, Tammara Webber has infused Easy with a lightness and hopeful tone that made this story shine. Easy owned me from the beginning and earned its claim on my heart each and every step of the way.

“Love is not the absence of logic but logic examined and recalculated heated and curved to fit inside the contours of the heart.”

Lucas is my ideal BBF. Hot, tattooed, intelligent, protective, and vulnerable, Lucas epitomizes the boy forced to grow up too soon. His desperate hold on his past was heart wrenching and there were so many moments where I wished he was real because I felt compelled to hug him. Tammara Webber brought this character to life in a way that made him feel entirely genuine, allowing me to forge a strong connection with his broken soul. Jacqueline simply blew me away. This character exuded uncertainty and insecurity as a result of her personal experiences, but what resonated with me was her incredible strength that attempted to break through the fear. Her transformation from timid and untrusting to confident and open was beyond stunning. Tammara Webber has written a true gem with Jacqueline and I found myself enchanted by her voice and distinct personality.

“Like the poem etched into his side, we were each curving to fit inside the other, and this melting and reshaping could be deeper, more resilient.”

Together, Lucas and Jacqueline share a chemistry that has been expertly crafted by Tammara Webber to burn slowly under the surface of the story. The potential for combustion is an ever-present tension that makes this couple unequivocally vibrant and deliciously addictive. The flirtatious banter, suggestive moments, and gut wrenching emotion had me totally invested in their happily ever after. Easy had me riding the full spectrum of emotion as I lost myself in the incredible friendships, all-consuming passion, haunting secrets, youthful daring, and overwhelming emotional honesty of this story. Unexpected twists in the story had me constantly surprised as Tammara revealed unexpected connections and sudden defining moments. Tammara Webber gets five sparkling stars for taking readers to places of vulnerability and truth, while maintaining the authenticity of the messy, challenging transition into adulthood that is college. Easy was fun, fearless, and utterly fantastic. If you haven’t read this book yet, you need to go grab yourself a copy!
