Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins’ ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben’s the only man she’s ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn’t looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.
Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible…but will it lead to a connection of the heart?
Kylie Scott has done it again; delivering another dose of Stage Dive with all of the emotion and humor I’ve come to love from this series. Deep is Ben’s story and I have to admit I’d been waiting to hear this one for a while now. Ben had that mysterious vibe about him where you never really felt like you had a handle on who he was as a character. His chill and noncommittal attitude extends to everything in his life except for Stage Dive. His passion and drive for a life filled with music is palpable, defining Ben in an unexpected and beautiful way. Kylie Scott continually impresses me with her easy writing style, effortlessly pulling me into the world of Stage Dive. I adored seeing all of our favorite couples from the previous books and finding out what was next in each of their relationships as well. Kylie Scott has created more than just a selection of interesting characters with this series, she’s created a family that you can’t help but cheer for.
“See, I do this funny thing I like to refer to as whatever the fuck I want. Understand?”
I absolutely loved Lizzy. I knew Ben was going to have his hands full with this one from her initial appearance in the series, but I couldn’t have prepared for the force of nature that was Liz. She is so much fun, feisty, loyal, caring, intelligent, and kind. Everything about her is genuine from her life at college to her part-time job to her fear of facing a rapidly changing future. Her insecurities in regards to her status with Ben coupled with her sheer determination to do what was best moving forward made her a strong and loveable character that I couldn’t get off my mind. Liz is the kind of character you can identify with and forge a connection. While Ben enjoys his life in the limelight, making music and enjoying the perks of stardom, Liz is clumsily navigating life on her own for the first time. Their differences gave Kylie Scott a ton of ammunition when it came to fueling the growing fire between Liz and Ben. The tension between these two had me on edge, constantly waiting for them to just give in. When their undeniable pull wins, the fun banter, heated gazes, and unrestrained moments of lust burned up the pages of this book.
“Ben, I don’t want to take your freedom. I just want a place in your world. An important one.”
With each book in the Stage Dive series, I’ve seen Kylie Scott’s writing grow as she masters the universe she created within the pages of her books. Her characters continually impress me with their depth and authenticity, winning me over each and every time. The overall development of the band connected each of the novels in the series contributing to the cohesive and complete feel the reader has of Stage Dive. I love that Deep had both humor and heart. I found myself chuckling and grinning at the ridiculous antics and strange declarations of these fabulous characters (seriously… what would we do without Mal?). Deep was well balanced, delivering feeling and fun in just the right measure to keep me engrossed in Ben and Lizzy’s story. I look forward to seeing what Kylie Scott has up her sleeve next, hoping this is not the last we see of this fun crew.
His laughter, it didn’t really sound the smallest bit amused. “Christ. You’re done here.”
“Ah, no. I’m actually not. Now see, this is where we have a problem.” I folded my arms. Then unfolded them because like fuck I’d look defensive. He was the one in the wrong, not me. “You’re not prepared to take me, or my feelings, seriously. What you want is to hide away in Mr. Too Cool for Commitment land and just play with my affections when it suits you. Okay, I’ve accepted that. But none of that means it’s okay for you to come in here and act like you’re the boss of me. None of it.”
“That so?” he asked, leaning down so that we were almost nose to nose.
“That’s so, baby.” I play-punched him in the shoulder, which it should be noted, I barely came up to. Okay, so maybe the alcohol on a mostly empty stomach had made me slightly/lots braver/sillier. “So why don’t you take your little caveman jealous tantrum bullshit somewhere else. See, I do this funny thing I like to refer to as whatever the fuck I want. Understand?”
He just stared.
“And as pretty as you are with your beard and your muscles, you are too damn tricky and . . . complicated and shit for me.”
“Yes, you are. Are you finally seeing my point here?”
“Excellent. So take your hotness elsewhere, kind sir. I want no part of it!” Huh. I had so told him. Drunken bravado was the best.
