Hard to Love

Synopsis

Cade’s always taken risks…

Cade takes cares of his sick younger sister by doing what he does best–cage fighting and starring in adult movies, his newest harebrained moneymaking scheme designed to pay for his sister’s growing medical bills. But when his latest gig finds him admitted to the ER sporting an erection from hell, thanks to the little pill given to him by the director, he can’t get the pretty little nurse who treated him out of his head, even though he knows she’s so far out of his league it should be illegal.

Alexa’s always played it safe…

Tired of being pigeonholed as the sweet, innocent one, hardworking nursing student Alexa has been looking for ways to break out of her Goody Two-shoes image. When her friend suggests the outlandish idea of losing her virginity to the sexy and sure-to-be-skilled porn star, Alexa is mortified. But then when Cade refuses her proposition, she finds herself pissed off and embarrassed. When she tracks him down to give him a piece of her mind, she isn’t prepared for what she finds. Watching him care for his little sister tugs at her heart, and suddenly it’s no longer just about losing her virginity, but about helping Cade. Because Lord help her, she might actually be falling for a porn star…

Review

From the moment you open this book, you’re hooked. Kendall Ryan has a voice that is smart, witty, and absolutely hilarious. I knew Cade and Alexa’s story was going to be a lot of fun right from the start, but what I didn’t count on was how skillfully Kendall Ryan infused real emotion throughout this book. Alexa and Cade appear to be complete opposites, one willing to use sex as a source of income while the other remains sweet and innocent. But as their story unfolds, Kendall reveals that there is a lot more to both of these fantastic characters. I ended up reading Hard to Love in one sitting, caught up in the story and enjoying the balance of sexy and smart that made this book shine.

“You may not have been who I picture myself with, but you’re exactly what I need- someone I can let loose and be myself with.”

I fell hard for Cade. How could I not? He’s sexy as hell and super sweet to his sister. Kendall Ryan wrote a swoon-worthy BBF and then gave him flaws and fears that provided him with an authenticity I could connect with. I was surprised by his emotional vulnerability and taken by his kindness and selflessness. Alexa had me with her dedication to serving others and her determination to see beneath the surface. She had a generous spirit that absolutely warmed my heart. Cade’s chemistry with Alexa was absolutely sizzling. Kendall Ryan had the air between these two crackling from the moment they met. I could feel the heat rising as they battled their self-control and the inevitable explosion was off the charts!

“Life wasn’t all fucking sunshine and rainbows. Real life was hard.”

Alexa and Cade’s journey was something special. Between Cade’s struggle to care for his sister and Alexa’s determination to step outside of the box her parents put her in, both emotions and insecurities ran high in Hard to Love. Kendall Ryan has captured the heart of the new adult genre with this story. Hard to Love embodied the hesitancy of re-defining yourself on your own terms and learning to accept kindness from others. The secondary characters were a lot of fun and I’m totally intrigued by them. They made this story a little more vibrant and brought out different sides of our main characters for us to enjoy. If you’re looking for a sweet, fun, and sassy read with a good dose of steam, then Hard to Love is one you should check out!
