Title: Fallen Crest High
Series: Fallen Crest #1
Release Date: October 31, 2012
Mason and Logan Kade are two brothers who did their own thing. They were rich and expected to attend her school, Fallen Crest Academy. They chose public school and now Samantha has to live with them. The problem is that she doesn’t care at all: about them, about her friends, about her cheating boyfriend, or even about her parent’s divorce. But maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe change is a good thing.
Fallen Crest High was my first Tijan book and after reading it, I was hooked. Tijan has a gift for allowing readers to lose themselves completely in her fictional world. Fallen Crest High was fun, sexy, dramatic, and biting. This story was bursting with the emotions that run high and hot in high school. I found myself caught up in the backstabbing, gossip, and temporary loyalty that run rampant with anyone consumed by the teenage social hierarchy. This story also had a lot of angst as Samantha experienced a huge shift in her world alongside the normal coming-of-age growing pains. Tijan wrote this story with a voice that was young, fresh, and invincible. Fallen Crest High transported me right back to those crowded hallways where the mean girls gossiped and the athletes drew crowds, causing me to feel those fickle young adult emotions all over again.
“People don’t know what they’re made of until they’re tested. You need to pull yourself out of a situation and think of the collateral damages, if it’s worth it.”
One of Tijan’s strengths lies in her character development. She gives her characters distinctive voices that make them unforgettable. Logan and Mason Kade are some of the first BBFs I lusted over. I reveled in their loyalty and love for one another. Watching Tijan unravel their layers, exposing their differences and celebrating their inimitable relationship, was so satisfying. Sam is one of my all-time favorite females with her no bullshit attitude, independence, strength, and vulnerability. Over the course of this book we really see Sam grow into her own, becoming the type of person who goes after what she wants and no longer allows herself to be walked all over. She was smart, fearless, and snarky, making her a girl after my own heart. Tijan wrote some seriously sizzling chemistry between her and Mason that started out as a flicker and quickly grew into an inferno. Their heated glances, loaded conversations, and possessive feelings towards one another were HOT!
“He was so strong, on the inside and out. For the first time I was intimidated by Mason Kade and I had no idea what to do about it.”
Fallen Crest High is definitely a rollercoaster of a story, taking unexpected twists and turns and heading off in directions I wouldn’t have expected. Every time I thought I had the dynamic between two characters figured out or their motivation deciphered I was taken by surprise. There are so many great characters in this book and Tijan has given them all a place of importance, each an essential piece of the puzzle. This story is vibrant, packed with feeling, and one hundred percent mischievous. This fabulous group of characters define trouble and there was certainly never a dull moment in this book. I’m so curious to see where Tijan will take things in the Fallen Crest universe and where our characters that refuse to be tamed will end up. I am certain that there are plenty of misadventures ahead of them. She has me entirely invested in her complicated characters and their tangled lives while enjoying every sassy, ridiculous moment of life with Sam, Logan and Mason.
