Synopsis

Emily McCarthy is living in fear of a dark and dangerous past. A gifted mathematician, she is little more than a hollow, broken shell, trying desperately to make ends meet long enough to finish her degree.

Through an unlikely friendship with the aging, cantankerous owner of an old boxing gym, Em is thrown into the path of the most dangerous man that she has ever met.

Cormac “the Hurricane” O’Connell is cut, tattooed and dangerous. He is a lethal weapon with no safety and everyone is waiting for the mis-fire. He’s never been knocked out before, but when he meet Em he falls, HARD. Unlike any other girl he’s ever met, she doesn’t want anything from him, but just being around her makes him want to be a better person.

They are polar opposites who were never meant to find each other, but some things are just worth the fight.

Review

I have a soft spot for fighters. Their classic alpha personalities, broken backgrounds, and hard won victories are the perfect recipe for a swoon-worthy book boyfriend. When I saw that R.J. Prescott’s debut novel was going to be about a fighter, I knew I was game. I was incredibly impressed by O’Connell and Emily’s story. R.J. Prescott has written a gripping novel about loss, love, and family that has managed to stay with me. I am so excited about this book and the fantastic group of characters we’ve been introduced to. Bit by bit I fell in love with each and every one and I’m so thrilled at the prospect of future books with this loveable bunch of secretly sweet, alpha fighters. R.J. Prescott is a clearly talented writer and I was constantly impressed with her carefully constructed story and the heartfelt emotions infused throughout. The passion that must have gone into each and every aspect of this book is evident, allowing readers to lose themselves in The Hurricane.

“I wish I knew the words to tell you how much I love you and how much you’ve changed my life. Meeting you was like seeing the sun for the first time, after a lifetime of living in the dark.”

O’Connell is everything I’d hoped he would be. Fighter. Check. Irish. Check. Covertly sweet. Check. Sexy and protective. Check check. From the moment he came on the scene, I knew I was going to be addicted to this character. His attitude, loyalty, and vulnerabilities gave him an irresistible pull that enchanted me from the very beginning. Emily on the other hand is about as introverted and meek as it gets when our story begins, but as her story unravels, her inherent strength is revealed and I quickly realized we had more than one fighter on our hands. I fell in love with the way she refused to allow her past to dim the goodness in her and I quickly found her becoming one of my favorite heroines I’ve read in a long while. If there is one thing R.J. Prescott knows how to do, it’s develop her characters and allow them to grow on their own. The character depth in The Hurricane was stunning and I definitely won’t be forgetting any of them any time soon. R.J. also generated an intense heat between Emily and O’Connell that made their story absolutely electric at times. Every spark between them gave their relationship an authenticity and inevitability that I undeniably adored.

“Em, just because his packaging is pretty doesn’t mean that his chocolate tastes any sweeter than yours.”

The Hurricane had several stories, winding together to create the perfect journey for our fantastic couple. R.J. Prescott managed to make this book more than just Emily and O’Connell’s story, she gave each character their moment to shine as well as their own unique history. While I’ve read a lot of fighter books, The Hurricane managed to stand apart with it’s deeply complex characters, genuine emotions, and easy language. I was instantly immersed in Emily and O’Connell’s worlds and completely transported out of my life with the slang and sentence structure that took me on a journey across the ocean. R.J. Prescott has a voice that is intelligent, funny, and sexy. Her story easily captivated me, making me feel with her beautiful words. I am so excited about this author and I will definitely be one-clicking whatever she writes in the future. The Hurricane is a fantastic debut novel and O’Connell is the perfect BBF for anyone in need of a swoon-worthy, alpha fighter.

Author Bio

RJ_AuthorPic

I was born in Cardiff, South Wales although I left to study law at the University of Bristol, England. Four weeks before graduation I fell in love, and stayed. Ten years later I convinced my crazy, wonderful fire fighter husband to move back to Cardiff with me where we live with our two equally crazy sons. Juggling work, writing and family doesn’t leave a lot of time, but curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate for family movie night is definitely the best part of my week. “The Hurricane” is my debut New Adult Novel.
