Title – Tight
Author – Alessandra Torre
Publication Date – February 7, 2015
I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single, thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.
I also hadn’t got laid in three years. Hadn’t been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and wearing makeup… a while ago.
Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He flipped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.
The fact that I don’t even know she exists, and he thinks she’s dead.
Everything is about to hit the fan and I can’t hold on to him tight enough.
I’m not even sure that I can form coherent thoughts about Tight by Alessandra Torre. I always go into her next book thinking that I’ll be able to guess where it goes or that it will be a repeat of something she’s written but with minor twists. Well, I am once again slapping my own wrists because I need to figure out how to learn better. Tight is darker than her previous works, but it sinks its teeth deep into you and winds you down a mesmerizing path of love, despair, and above all, hope.
“Every saved soul was a pebble into the stream that was my broken heart.”
Riley is a small-town bumpkin where everyone knows each other. She’s quickly thrown into this whole other jet-setting world with Brett, and I loved every single second of it. She threw caution to the wind and led with her heart. Since I’m a woman who wears her heart on her sleeve, but also quite sensible, I actually loved to see that side of her. Furthermore, I appreciated that once she started to get suspicious of what he did for a living, she decided to find out for herself. Even if she had a hard time confronting him, there was a little bit of rebellion in her. I don’t know how anyone could read this book and not fall in love with Brett. The few chapters we get from his point of view are heartbreaking and enlightening all at once. He’s a complicated character with a genuine heart and you just want to dig to the bottom of the story. Finally, we have Kitten who is a total mystery from the beginning of the book. We catch glimpses of her story, and though I guessed early on at what her purpose was, the journey she took us on was unforgettable.
“I threw every pebble in and hoped the water would dam, hoped the hurt would fade, hoped the memories would fade.”
The plot is like nothing I have ever come across. I commend Torre for touching on a darker subject that some writers may not like to write about. She’s providing a form of entertainment while also addressing a topic that many people know nothing about. I truly respect this author for doing her research and allowing her head to be in that dark space to provide a genuine feel to the books. Sex trafficking is scary, but it does happen. By introducing it in her words, she has at least educated one woman and without a doubt made me more aware of my own surroundings. I cringed and felt a lot of emotion while reading Tight, particularly when it came to the situations these girls were thrown into. However, to me, that is what makes the story a five star read; the genuine feelings of happiness, sadness, relief, etc. that are pulled from the depths of the reader through the author’s words.
“But the stream never dried, the hurt never ceased, and my pain never healed.”
The one thing that I have learned about Torre is that she is not afraid to test your boundaries and push you to the edge. Tight is no exception to this rule; it was simultaneously everything and nothing that I expected it to be. It was thrilling ride that I wanted to never end, but one where I felt like I could breathe again by the end. Tight is not a story that I will likely forget anytime soon. I honestly enjoyed every single second of the ride it took me on, for better or worse. I’m not sure what else is in that brain of Alessandra Torre’s, but she definitely still has a fan for life in me.
