If A Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever. But what if he didn’t love you, first?
No-nonsense Liis Lindy is an agent of the FBI. Deciding she is married only to her job, she breaks off her engagement and transfers from Chicago to the field office in San Diego. She loves her desk. She is committed to her laptop. She dreams of promotions and shaking hands with the director after cracking an impossible case.
Special Agent in Charge Thomas Maddox is arrogant, unforgiving, and ruthless. He is tasked with putting away some of the world’s toughest criminals, and he is one of the best the Bureau has to offer. Though, as many lives as he’s saved, there is one that is beyond his reach. Younger brother Travis is faced with prison time for his involvement in a basement fire that killed dozens of college students, and the media want a conviction. Travis’s only savior is his unusual tie to the mob. In a deal that will spare his brother, Thomas has agreed to recruit Travis into the FBI.
Liis is stubborn, defiant, and yet somehow softens Thomas’s rough edges, making her the perfect agent to accompany him to the ceremony. Posing as a couple, they must travel to Travis & Abby’s beach vow renewal and give him the news, but when the pretending ends, she finds herself wondering if they were pretending at all.
In the second installment of the Maddox Brothers books, experience firsthand the mysterious world of the elusive Thomas Maddox, and how good love can be when you’re not the first, but the last.
When you think of Jamie McGuire, you often will jump to an association with Travis Maddox; and there’s a saying that when a Maddox man falls in love, he falls forever. Well, it’s safe to say that once you fall in love with one Maddox, you’re bound to love the rest. Thomas’ story in Beautiful Redemption was every bit of what I have come to love about the Maddox men (and Jamie McGuire’s writing), while simultaneously being completely different from the other books in the series. I loved getting an inside look into this man who has been such a full-time mystery.
“You can love someone without wanting to be with them. Just like you can want to be with someone before you love them.”
I think one of the interesting things about the Maddox Brothers series is that the books are written in the heroine’s point of view, yet tells the story of the brother. I found it fascinating to see Thomas through Liis’ eyes – in both the good and the bad times. She was able to describe the ogre the rest of the world perceived, as well as the gentle giant she had come to know. While I love a good dual point of view novel, there is something special about seeing the leading man through the love of his life.
“Love isn’t about predictions or behavioral markers. It just happens, and you have no control.”
Thomas was fighting really hard to overtake my favorite Maddox, and I can somewhat begrudgingly say that he succeeded. I loved the intrigue, the steadfast feelings, and the fortitude he exuded. There was just something so special seeing him want Liis and become determined to get her, but using a completely different tactic than the brothers we’ve gotten stories from. I also really admired Liis and she is without a doubt my favorite Maddox female to date! She was strong and unwavering and utterly independent. Even though she drove me crazy a couple times with her questions about Cami, a soft spot also grew for showing her vulnerability. Even in the greater picture, her actions were a defense mechanism even when she didn’t realize it and that’s something most people can relate to. I love a strong female lead who isn’t afraid to take charge and push back, and Liis was definitely that woman!
“My type seems to be feisty women who are emotionally unavailable.”
The change of scenery (both in location and character personality) really breathed a whole new life into the series. Whenever I finish a Maddox book, I’m always left thirsting for more, but now I’m feeling it ten times over. These characters were brilliant and the plot had me on the edge of my seat. I can really appreciate that as each subsequent Maddox novel releases, more holes are being filled into the greater story line. The writing is spellbinding and pulls you in from the moment you start until the very last page. Now if only the next Maddox Brothers book was out tomorrow…I wouldn’t have a thing to complain about! 😉
