Synopsis

They agreed on three months…but their love knew no boundaries.

Jack McLachlan is a winemaking magnate and easily one of Australia’s most eligible bachelors. His success and wealth makes him no stranger to the complications of romantic relationships and that’s why he goes to extreme measures to avoid the hassle. He prefers simplicity in the form of a beautiful female companion with no strings attached. He arranges relationships like business deals and they’re always the same. No long term relationships. No real names.

It’s his game and his rules. He’s content to play as usual, but when Laurelyn Prescott enters his life, his strategy must change because this player is like none he’s ever encountered. His world is turned on its head after he begins a three month affair with the beautiful American musician. Nothing goes according to plan and as he breaks more and more of his own rules for her, she’s exceptionally close to becoming something he never thought possible. His ultimate game changer.

Beauty From Pain is an adult contemporary novel and is not intended for younger readers due to mature content.

Review

Georgia Cates is one of the authors that I was going to meet, so I researched her books and added them to my TBR. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to read them in time before I met her, but I’m now kicking myself because I’ve fallen head over heels in love with her writing and her characters. Beauty From Pain grabbed my attention and somehow kept my eyes glued to the pages, leaving me incapable of putting it down.

“Because the best songs are written from the heart and the emotions you feel must be one extreme or the other. I’d have to be desperately in love or devastatingly hurt by you.”

From the moment we met Laurelyn, I fell in love with her. At times, she was so unsure of things, but then in other instances, she was so strong-willed and confident. She seemed to always hold her head high and it was incredibly commendable. I also felt like I could relate to her family situation, particularly with her mother. The inability to give up on her despite all her mistakes just endeared me to Laurelyn further. She was just one of those characters that drew you in like a moth to a flame. She did what she had to in order to survive and keep her strength and it just really resonated with me.

“The dam holding all my secrets is breached and I tell him things I thought I would take to my grave.”

As for Jack Henry – oh hot mama! I don’t know that I will ever get my fill of this man. He was stubborn and mysterious, but not without his reasons. Jack was persistent and attentive, and just made you swoon. I also loved seeing this whole other side of him when he was with his family. He became this kind, gentle person who would drop everything for those he loved. Cates writes him in such a way that you see these two drastically different sides of his personality so you really get who he is as a whole while still maintaining this intriguing quality. He provides for quite the interesting male lead.

“I’ve known pain my whole life, but this is a new kind for me. It isn’t born of something wrong or ugly. This pain is conceived out of beauty – my love for Jack Henry McLachlan.”

I have to say that the chemistry between these two was probably my absolute favorite thing about them! The sex between them was so seductive and thrilling, but still pretty classy. There was no BDSM component, but it really reminded me as a reader that sometimes you don’t need all of that extra stuff to get the steamy factor. It comes with how well a scene is written and Georgia Cates sure knows how to accomplish that!

“You treat me like I’m somebody instead of a nobody.

Overall, I was very impressed with Beauty From Pain. I truly felt like I was on a journey of discovery with these two. They had to gain strength and come to understand themselves in order to find a way to each other. I laughed at times, and I even had tears falling at others. The book is exquisitely written and will leave you feeling like you’ve been spun into a spider’s web with no hopes (or desire) of escaping. If Georgia Cates is on your TBR, bump her up – and if she isn’t there, definitely do yourself a favor and add her!
