Title: The Prelude of Ella and Micah
Author: Jessica Sorensen
Series: The Secret #0.5
Release Date: November 11, 2014
When Ella Daniels and Micha Scott are fourteen, they make a pact to leave the small town of Star Grove and create better lives for themselves. The pact was made as best friends, but over the next six years, their friendship begins to intensify. Feelings change. Grow. Veer towards love.
But one tragic night changes everything. Hearts get broken. And the future they had planned changes forever.
From the moment I met Ella and Micha, I knew they were something special. Their relationship was so deeply rooted in the past and I could only imagine the pain of everything they’d been through. I found myself wishing I had known them before their lives took such a cruel turn, leaving them both forever altered. When I heard that Jessica Sorensen was writing the prequel to this incredible series, I was ecstatic. I couldn’t wait to get more insight into this beautifully broken couple and I have to say, I was not disappointed. Jessica Sorensen has exceeded my expectations with The Prelude of Ella and Micha and I’m left feeling more connected to these two characters than I ever thought possible.
“In the end, I did run, and it irrevocably altered the entire course of my future.”
I am absolutely giddy after getting to see Ella and Micha growing up alongside one another. The friendship that always provided the rock solid foundation for their relationship gets it’s time in the spotlight and the bond Jessica has crafted between Ella and Micha becomes more clear and stronger than ever. I loved getting glimpses of these two before life had taken so much from them. Seeing their innocence and zest for life made my heart so happy I thought I would burst. Experiencing the unconditional love they’ve always had for one another just made their happily ever after that much sweeter.
“You, Ella May, are the creation of my happiness.”
Of course, this wouldn’t be a Jessica Sorensen story without a little (or a lot of) heartbreak. She has an undeniable talent for exposing the broken pieces of her characters, for making them as raw and real as possible, appealing to the emotions of her readers until you can’t help but fall in love with the story. Experiencing Ella’s life altering night, both the passion and the pain, really hit this story home for me. Being a part of the moment that defined the entire series made everything so much clearer. I felt as if everything I’d ever felt for these characters was magnified with the knowledge of Ella and Micha’s devastation and the absolutely heartbreaking timing of the events that unfolded.
“She believed that she was invincible. But she wasn’t. All because of me.”
Jessica Sorensen has once again proven her flawless ability to write stories and characters that will own your emotions and you heart right from the start. Even in the short time span of a novella, Jessica delivers a powerful punch. The Prelude of Ella and Micha is the embodiment of everything I loved about these characters. It’s sweet, innocent, feisty, honest, uncertain and emotionally daring. I loved seeing Ella and Micha’s backstory. This novella was the perfect addition to this series and it has definitely sparked the need for a series re-read in me. If you’ve met these two, this is an absolute must read addition to their story and if you haven’t, this novella is the perfect place to start; they’ll have you desperate for more in no time!
As we pull our hands away, I grow nervous because now I have to actually kiss him. And not just kiss him, but kiss my first guy ever.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” I double check, wiping my palm on my jeans. “Because I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“I’ll show you.” He’s already leaning in, his intense aqua eyes zeroed in on my lips.
My heart dances like a crazy person in my chest, and I feel like I’m going to throw up. “Micha, I …” I trail off, sucking in a huge breath as his lips touch mine. My fingers tense around the chains and my whole body stiffens while I try to figure out what on earth I’m supposed to be doing. Clearly not just sitting here, frozen.
“Relax,” Micha whispers, putting a small bit of space between our lips.
Thinking the kiss is over, I let out a quiet, relieved breath. But the relief is short lived because, a microsecond later, his head dips forward and his lips brush against mine again. Only, this time, it’s different. This time, he slips his tongue into my mouth.
Oh, my God, his tongue is in my mouth.
Micha Scott’s tongue is in my mouth.
And I just touched my tongue to his.
Before I can even register what’s happening, we’re kissing. And I mean full on French-kissing. It goes on for what feels like minutes, our knees knocking against each other as Micha plays with my hair and continues to kiss me. Unfamiliar feelings prickle inside me, ones I’m pretty sure I’ve never felt before, and that terrifies the living daylights out of me. They make me feel so…
Out of control.
And Micha is supposed to be my stability.
I’m about to pull away because I can’t take the terror hounding inside me anymore when a loud crash echoes from nearby and we both jerk apart, wide-eyed and gasping for air. My cheeks start to burn and even Micha appears embarrassed, which has never happened before—at least, from what I’ve seen.
Seconds later, reality crashes over me.
Oh, my God, I just kissed my best friend.
