Title: The Resolution of Callie & Kayden
Author: Jessica Sorensen
Series: The Coincidence #6
Release Date: September 30, 2014
Things are well for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.
Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and they’re left facing tough choices. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life.
This book. So many feels. Sitting here with a big stupid grin on my face, I’m trying to find the right words to describe this book and I’m failing miserably. This book is perfectly imperfect. Everything about Callie and Kayden’s story up to this point has been hard and painstakingly real. While I wanted them to finally get the picture perfect happily ever after, Jessica has fully exceeded all my expectations by instead giving these two the hard-fought resolution they earned. Every moment of this book was a little piece of their truthful fairytale and I couldn’t have been happier with how Jessica brought Callie and Kayden through their journey.
“And besides, I might not be here with you if my life went another path, so I can look at the bad as something I had to go through to get to the good.”
Callie and Kayden both exhibit incredible personal growth over the course of this book. Jessica Sorensen has not only given these character life, but she’s given them an inimitable voice that has transformed and matured during their story. I was invested completely and watching them evolve has been an overwhelming experience as a reader. Callie and Kayden are some of the most three-dimensional characters I’ve encountered. They have been crafted so expertly that I often felt like I knew these two as friends who were experiencing life by my side. Callie and Kayden were always relatable, perfectly flawed, and one hundred percent loveable.
“You are my good, no matter what you want to believe.”
My emotions have been all over the map for the majority of Callie and Kayden’s story. They’ve had a devastating amount of lows and not enough hopeful highs in their young lives. Not once has Jessica Sorensen let me down when it comes to rendering the emotional context of this story. Each and every step of the way has been just as raw and authentic as it needed to be, pulling me into this story and connecting me to these characters irrevocably. The honesty of the emotions in this book is exceptional. Not everyone gets the closure they expect, but then again life has never really worked that way and fate has a way of moving us forward.
“I’m sitting here, happier than I’ve ever been, because of you. You are my happiness.”
This book holds true the uncomfortable reality that moving forward is a battle that can only be conquered with conscious effort and time. Jessica could have easily wrapped everything in a nice bow and given these characters a “perfect” ending, but Callie and Kayden deserved more than that. They deserved to have their unique voices heard and their individual struggles acknowledged. Every challenge they had to overcome to get to their ever after needed to be recognized and this book did just that. Every change in direction this storyline took, bought me closer to these characters. Somewhere along the way, this couple has sunk their hooks into my heart and their story has taken root, undoubtedly etching itself upon me forever.
