Title: Lost In You
Author: Heidi McLaughlin
Release Date: September 23, 2014
Ryan Stone is a less than average teenager. He doesn’t have fancy clothes. He doesn’t carry around the latest smartphone and he definitely doesn’t have an MP3 player. Instead, he goes to school, does his chores and dreams of a new life away from Brookfield where he’s expected to follow in his blue collar family’s footsteps.
Hadley Carter is America’s Pop Princess. A successful recording artist living her dream with a sold-out tour and a handful of Grammy’s there isn’t much that she wants for, except love. But finding love on the road is near impossible when all she longs for are romantic dinners, a nighttime stroll on the beach and holding hands with someone who isn’t going to exploit her.
When a chance encounter introduces Ryan to Hadley, will he be like her adoring fans looking for a way in, or will it be Hadley who pursues Ryan even though it might cost her the only career she’s known.
Lost in You is a story about following your dreams, taking risks and getting lost in love.
Lost in You was my first book by Heidi McLaughlin and its sweet story, loveable characters and abundance of emotional turmoil definitely won me over quickly. Hadley and Ryan’s story is the epitome of people from opposite walks of life colliding head on. Neither of them are prepared for the storm that follows their chance meeting, and to be honest, neither was I. Hadley’s celebrity status and the different stages of life these characters are in, provide the perfect twist to this already complicated storyline.
Ryan was unexpected. He isn’t the usual alpha male that had me swooning right away. Heidi created Ryan to be an inexperienced, small town, seventeen year old boy that exuded innocence and insecurity. Everything about him was true to his nature. Heidi brought this character to life through his nervous dialogue, confused thoughts and total hesitancy to act. I enjoyed watching the growth of this character over the course of the story. His emotional evolution was raw and gritty, and by the time the book was finished, I had definitely fallen hard for Ryan.
Hadley is the personification of every young adult’s life vision. She’s beautiful, wealthy, and has managed to turn her dream into a successful career. She has the luxury of going after what she wants and this couldn’t make her more different from Ryan. Together they are the perfect combination of lust and heartbreak. Heidi forged a connection between Hadley and Ryan that is absolutely electric. The pull they have towards one another is completely tangible throughout this story, encouraging me to devote myself to their relationship from the very beginning.
Lost in You had me riding the ups and downs of Hadley and Ryan’s journey right there with them. Heidi knows how to keep her readers guessing. Just when I thought I knew how things were going to turn out, another unexpected surprise would divert their journey. The secondary characters really brought a sense of completeness to this story, allowing us to see different sides to the main characters through their various relationships. Lost in You is exciting, surprising and equal parts gut wrenching and heart warming. I hope this isn’t the end of these wonderful characters.
