Four Score ….
Love and hate aren’t all that different.
Two sides of the same coin, the yin and the yang.
Once upon a time, Jason Ross loved me. And now that he’s in danger of figuring out what I’ve done, I see the love and the hate warring within him.
I see the way he looks at me.
The way he wonders how I could do the things I’ve done.
I hear it in the way he begs me to stop, to leave his father and this life and never look back.
But there’s only one way I’m leaving LA.
It seems that once Lili St. Germain opened the emotional floodgates, she left us to drown in the overwhelming feelings of this story. When things between Juliette and Jase change completely, the connection between them is left out in the open. Jase makes it his mission to keep Juliette safe and he finally comes face to face with Elliott for a showdown of alpha male perfection. The character development to this point in the story is astounding. I’ve learned so much about Juliette and Jase in such a short period of time. Watching them navigate their deadly situation and adapt to new truths reminded me how much these characters have grown since the first novella.
My heart felt like it was being pulled in two when Elliott, Jase and Juliette all end up in a room together. They both love her and want to protect her, but in ways that couldn’t be more different. I love pieces of both Elliott and Jase and I could imagine the heartache of carrying the affection of these two men. Jase and Juliette soon come to realize that the truths that have been exposed come with acceptance of things they’re not proud of. Jase struggles to accept the things Juliette has done and every time he was reminded of her plan, I felt my stomach drop for him. This part of their story was equal parts hopeful and heartbreaking.
Much of this book centers around Juliette and Jase trying to figure out what to do next. As they give in to the electricity between them, I began to wonder more and more about Jase. His behavior since losing Juliette six years ago and his vague responses to her plans make me question what’s going on in his head. I barely had time to think about his role in the story when Juliette’s plans come to a screeching halt. The ending of this novella was brutal. Lili leaves us with yet another revelation that is sure to drastically change the course of this story. It blew me away and left me desperate to know what happens next.
