Title – One More Chance
Author – Abbi Glines
Release Date – September 2, 2014
Series – Rosemary Beach, #8
Grant Carter did everything in his power to convince Harlow Manning that he was a good guy. More than a smooth-talker and someone she could trust. He had to overcome his reputation as a playboy, and his history with Harlow’s half-sister, Nan, a woman with a reputation of her own.
Harlow had taken the chance, falling hard and fast for the guy who thrilled her with his all-consuming desire. After a lifetime of avoiding bad boys like Grant, she had opened herself to the possibilities of love…
But a life-changing secret has torn them apart, and now Grant and Harlow must decide if they have enough fight to make it work – or if the pain of betrayal has permanently destroyed their future.
Every single time I open an Abbi Glines book, I think that it simply can’t be better than the last. By the time I have finished and reflected, I remind myself that I have to stop telling myself that. Closing the book, I have a waking up moment where I realize that Abbi Glines just keeps getting better and better – and One More Chance is her absolute best work yet! This is the continuation of Grant and Harlow’s story and for as much as I fell in love with these two in Take a Chance, something about this book just struck a chord with me. I would find myself smiling and laughing one minute, and wiping my tears the next paragraph.
“Don’t let pain and fear control you, or you’ll lose.”
It was so eloquently written and you can’t help but fall in love with both Grant and Harlow. Grant becomes this beacon of strength who is constantly fighting an internal war. I loved seeing this struggle. Not once did he outright ask Harlow to make the impossible decision (even knowing she would refuse). Instead, he supported her and was her rock through everything. He constantly questioned himself and questioned what he wanted, but never pushed Harlow. As for Harlow, she epitomized strength and love throughout One More Chance. I could feel every ounce of her strength and determination in the words that Abbi Glines poured onto these pages. She has skyrocketed to the top of my favorite female characters. Furthermore, she writes letters that help break the book up, in a sense. These letters – oh my God! I needed lots of tissues and breathing exercises. They made everything that much more realistic…they were the perfect addition! Together, these two characters fall in love and you’ll in turn fall in love with their story, their journey.
“At that point, I hadn’t understood him. But now it all made sense. He had been ripped in two, and he was expected to live each day like everything was normal, clinging to the hope she’d come back to him.”
One More Chance will, without a doubt, make you laugh and it will make you cry. You’ll swoon and you’ll want to slap the characters at times. I sat and read the whole thing in one sitting and only wish I could experience it for the first time all over again. Abbi Glines is extremely talented, but this book shines above the rest. If you haven’t given the Rosemary Beach crew a try yet, TAKE A CHANCE and introduce yourself to Grant and Harlow. They sure do not disappoint, and you’ll only wish you had ONE MORE CHANCE to fall in love even further with these two!
