Became a tech billionaire by his twentieth birthday. Has been in a relationship with me for 3 years.
Has proposed 4 times. Been rejected 4 times.
Cuts grass when he’s not banging housewives. Good with his hands, his mouth, and his cock. Has been pursued relentlessly by me for almost 2 years, whether he knows it or not.
Go ahead. Judge me. You have no idea what my love entails.
If you think you’ve heard this story before, trust me – you haven’t.
To anyone who knows me or follows what I read, it’s no real surprise that I am a huge fan of Alessandra Torre and her writing. She pours her heart and soul into her characters and it shines through in every single word…every detail that the reader encounters. Black Lies was no exception, and I’d venture to say that it was on a completely different playing field than her previous works. It was elevated, unique, and incredibly gripping!
“True love makes a person reckless, makes them take risks and make sacrifices.”
Black Lies introduces us to the world of Layana; one of expensive cars, fancy clothes, and money beyond comprehension. Though it’s the world she was raised in, it’s one that she has fought against due to her parents’ ridiculous, Stepford-wife expectations. Layana believes in love and chemistry, and she finds that in Brant Sharp. Luckily, he has all the other aspects a woman could want as well – intelligence, good-looking, wealthy. The only downside is his aunt, Jillian Sharp, and the very little time he has for Lana despite the utmost love and adoration he has for her. In that time apart, she meets Lee and just can’t seem to get enough of him. She ends up pursuing a relationship with him, and so the web of lies is further spun. While this may sound like a love triangle waiting to happen, I can absolutely guarantee it’s not one like you’ve read before.
“True love tests the boundaries of our person, makes us yearn to be better and fight for the ground we stand on.”
Brant and Lee are two completely different males, but you can’t help but fall in love with them both, because of and in spite of these differences. Where Brant is work-oriented and gentle and loving, Lee is impulsive and passionate and intense. These two men, together, fill Layana and make her whole. She gets the best of both her worlds – the one she was striving to achieve and the one she always fought against but still appreciates – leaving it near impossible to choose between these two men. What floored me the most, was that I couldn’t help but adore Layana, which I don’t think is an easy feat in books that involve multiple love interests. That is, of course, until she is forced to choose between these two men.
“I will fight for this love. Lie for it. Steal for it. It is worthy of that.”
The writing in Black Lies is superb – probably Alessandra’s best book to date. It is gripping and absolutely blew me away. It kept me entertained, immersed, and on the edge of my seat. There was just something special about this book that showcased how well Alessandra can write. This woman was born to live out the lives of the characters in her head, and man, am I grateful!
“This love is worth the unsaid truths. The hidden lies.”
In the Afterthoughts, Alessandra states that she hopes she did the characters and story justice. Well, I can absolutely guarantee that she did that and more! Black Lies is unique, thought-provoking, and spellbinding. Once you pick up this masterpiece, it will be quite difficult to put down. It has skyrocketed to one of my all-time favorite books and I can’t recommend it enough!
