Title: Second Chance Boyfriend
Author: Monica Murphy
Series: One Week Girlfriend #2
Release Date: April 9, 2013
Lost. That one single word best describes my life at this very moment. I lost the last games of the season and both my team and my coach blame me. I lost the last two months because I drowned in my own despair like a complete loser. And I lost the only girl who ever mattered because I was afraid being with me would destroy her.
But now I realize how truly lost I am without her. She has become my story…and even though she acts like she’s moved on, I know she still thinks about me just as much as I think about her. She’s beautiful, sweet—and so damn vulnerable, all I want to do is help her. Be there for her.
If only I could convince Fable to give me a second chance. Then I wouldn’t feel so lost anymore, and neither would she. We could be found together.
I was so glad I waited until Second Chance Boyfriend was already out before I read One Week Girlfriend. I wouldn’t have been able to wait to read this part of Drew and Fable’s story. The way things were left at the end of One Week Girlfriend was necessary to the emotional journey of this couple. The ending was genuine and I respect the heck out of Monica Murphy for not going the easy route with this one. Second Chance Boyfriend picks up right where One Week Girlfriend left off and the second I started reading I was immediately pulled back into Drew and Fable’s world. Monica Murphy has a gift for cultivating complex emotions in her readers with her beautiful words, interesting storylines and unparalleled characters. Second Chance Boyfriend is no exception.
“Sometimes you have to stand alone, just to make sure you still can.”
Drew and Fable have been through a lot both individually and together. They’ve only known each other for a short time, so they have a lot of learning, growing, and healing to do in this book. I was afraid that this book would be spent focused on their pasts and their issues. So many books go on and on about all the problems the characters have and then they magically fix everything and live happily ever after. Monica Murphy knows how to tell a story and she does not disappoint. She expertly moves this story forward while continuing to evolve and mature her characters. Drew and Fable feel like old friends and this story completely consumed me from start to finish. The emotions run high in Second Chance Boyfriend and it is definitely not smooth sailing for these two, but Monica has continued this couple’s journey in a way that made it impossible to put down.
“Drew Callahan is my absolute weakness. Like a drug I can’t get enough of. He’s my addiction and if I’m honest with myself, I’m not looking to kick that particular habit anytime soon.”
Second Chance Boyfriend was real and rough and while both characters had to deal with their problems, they also got to live in the now, which meant dealing with the issues that come with change and moving forward. Drew and Fable had to work to find peace with their lives and discover their place in each other’s. Their struggle was authentic and it completely blew me away. We also get to meet some secondary characters that help us to see different sides to Drew and Fable and understand them as individuals a little better. The honesty with which their journey in the book was written kept me reading and made me fall in love with Drew and Fable a little bit more. Monica Murphy continued to deal with difficult topics with the appropriate respect and delicacy. Second Chance boyfriend was another beautiful read in this series!
“I’ll never forget the things you said to me. Not because they mattered, but because they made me feel like I did.”
