Is eight weeks enough time to earn back the love of someone you’ve betrayed…the only one you’ve ever loved?
Shelly has been in love with Cal since they started dating in eleventh grade. Despite everyone saying that the odds were against them, they got married after graduation and built a life together. Now, six years later, she is faced with the ultimate betrayal. Devastated, her first instinct is to call it quits…
After a drunken binge at his best friends’ bachelor party, Cal betrays the one person who has always been there for him, his wife, Shelly. Terrified and realizing she might divorce him, Cal must come up with a way to prove to her that his love is true…
Cal asks Shelly for eight weeks. Eight weeks to convince her that their marriage is worth the fight. Will Shelly be able to trust him again, or will their marriage end the way many others do when faced with opposition… In divorce?
8 Weeks is definitely a read that will instantly grab your attention. It starts off with a naked man in a hotel room in Vegas, and then realizing he made a giant-sized mistake. Now he has to go home to his wife and figure out how to salvage his marriage. I really, truly enjoyed the more realistic nature of this book, but maybe that’s just what I’ve been in the mood to read lately. The premise of having a certain amount of time to try and prove you have fight left in you was quite innovating and refreshing. The eight dates idea was incredibly cute and I loved that it opened up the eyes of the couple to seeing each other in a different light!
That being said, I did have a little bit of difficulty connecting to the characters. I didn’t feel like there was any special OOMPH that made me fall in love with them, other than the bond and friendship the six of them had together. The dates were very cute, but I didn’t feel like I had enough of them to really connect to and invest in. I think my favorite thing about 8 Weeks is Cal and his entire character. It was incredibly refreshing to see the male in a novel know what he wants and continue to fight for it. Not once did he waver in his love and tenacity for his wife.
Overall, this wasn’t a bad book. It was cute and not drama-filled, aside from the big event. Furthermore, I think the book sent out a very important message. It doesn’t truly matter what happened to cause a fight; what matters is how you attempt to fix what is broken. It matters that you commit, no matter how difficult the situation is. However, I just didn’t sink my teeth into it the way I had hoped I would – and that is my only real complaint. I will probably continue onto the next book in the series to see if it takes off any further even though it is about two other characters!
