Title – Panic
Author – JA Huss
Series – Rook & Ronin #3
Rook is chasing her dream—film school and a chance at a life beyond the one she ran from six months ago. But before she can become the girl she wants to be, she must deal with the girl she left behind.
Ronin is also chasing his dream—a family of his own and a life away from erotic modeling. And he too, has a past he’s trying to forget. A past that makes Rook question everything about their life together.
Lies, secrets, and shocking truths will rock the foundation Rook and Ronin have built. Can they put the past behind them and move forward together? Or is this just another too good to be true relationship that will crash and burn in the end?
Holy cow! PANIC was such an amazing freaking conclusion to the Rook and Ronin trilogy! It took me a solid twelve hours before I could write a remotely coherent review. This book made me feel everything from giddiness, to sadness, to frustration, to heartbreak, to heart fulfilling! I think I experienced almost every single emotion on the spectrum – which is not an easy thing to do well in such a short span of time.
As much as I love the relationship that Ronin & Rook have, I think I love the dynamic between Rook and Ford just a smidge better. I liked that he was able to push her boundaries and give her tools to utilize. However, it really is the greater picture of what each member of the team did for her that I love the most. They each help to build her up in a different way and provide a building block of foundation that she was never able to have. In doing so, they really make you stop and think for a moment and evaluate yourself in a way. I think JA Huss just did a beautiful job in creating this fictional world with believable characters and even more believable scenarios. Rook is officially one of my all-time favorite female characters. She is strong and fierce and just beautiful on the inside.
I did NOT see that twist coming in any way, shape, or form. However, once that ball started rolling, I couldn’t put down the book (even though I was trying my hardest to savor it). You’re kind of blind-sided in the best way possible. I like that the book ended with things tied up, but open enough that should JA ever want to return to these characters, the door is open. The trilogy as a whole will make you feel all sorts of things, but Panic especially will have you on an emotional rollercoaster that you will want to ride forever. I absolutely recommend this to others who like a little suspense, something different, and of course a love story. I only wish I could be the one experiencing it for the first time over and over again!
