What Goes on Tour

What goes on tour, stays on tour … or does it?

Few people know that socially awkward Adrian Hart is actually rock god Kent Downer, and that’s the way Adrian likes it. His privacy is essential, especially now that he has guardianship of his orphaned, ten-year-old niece, Kate. But when the nanny quits in the middle of his tour Adrian finds himself in a bind.

Until Libby Myles walks into his life.

Libby has only ever wanted to become a full-time author and prove to her parents that she can make it on her own. On the surface, the temporary job as the nanny for Kent Downer’s niece looks perfect—the pay is fabulous, the hours are short and Kate is a big fan—it’s the rock star that’s the issue.

Arrogant and way too attractive for anyone’s good, Kent Downer has enough swagger to power a small city. But when he’s out of costume he’s different—shy and uncertain. For Libby it’s a far harder combination to resist. She needs to find a balance between work, writing and ignoring her attraction to the rock star, because if she falls for him, it could mean the end of her dream.

But when a horrible scandal is unleashed—putting young Kate in danger—there’s more heat between Libby and Adrian than just sexual attraction. Libby must figure out if Adrian ever cared for her, or if it was all just part of the show…

I came across this book on Netgalley and was immediately intrigued. I love a good rockstar love story. I had never heard of Claire Boston before and I’m always up for checking out new authors so I wanted to give What Goes on Tour a shot. I’m definitely glad I did. What Goes on Tour is a sweet story and it was a unique take on the rockstar storyline. I’m not usually a huge fan of third person narratives in romance. Often times I feel just a little too emotionally distant and it takes away from my ability to connect with the story. This book was pretty much the opposite of that. Even in third person, Claire manages to create very distinct voices for her characters. It was always easy to tell when Adrian’s thoughts and feelings were the main focus and the transitions to Libby’s time in the spotlight were seamless.

I wasn’t sure how much I would like Adrian aka our rocker, “Kent” because he wasn’t your typical bad boy rocker. He has lost a lot and has taken on the role of guardian to his niece, Kate. Playing the role of parent has forced his musical ambitions to be second in order of importance and eliminates a lot of the usual drama with groupies and drunken nights from the equation. However, trying to keep Kent and Adrian separate while raising a ten-year-old girl on a rock tour has its own challenges. There was definitely enough going on to keep me rooted to the story and interested to see how things would turn out. Especially once Libby, our lovely writer/nanny enters the picture.

Libby was an awesome character. She is a writer who is determined to make a career out of being an author. I loved seeing the world from a writer’s perspective, watching people and taking in their actions and words as potential pieces of a story. She was also incredibly hardworking and dedicated to telling her stories, even if it wasn’t a financially stable situation. I always admire a character that chases his or her dreams and manages to inspire a similar drive in someone else. Kate was an adorable breath of fresh air in this story. The view of a child always offers another perspective and the lack of a filter usually means some pretty honest and often funny conversations. Kate provided the perfect balance to these two very serious adults.

All in all I had a great time reading this book. It didn’t take me long to finish reading it because I liked Libby, Adrian & Kate’s story so much. This story was a different twist on the rockstar romance and it made me smile form beginning to end. This book portrayed some very real emotions and issues and did so in a positive manner. This was one of those stories that leaves your heart feeling light. I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next and I look forward to watching her writing grow and mature in her future books.
