Suzy’s a control freak and has her life mapped out – work hard, find a man with a stable job, and live happily ever after. She’s content with the status quo, but her plan comes to a screeching halt when he enters her life and turns it upside down.
City gave up on love when his heart was crushed in college, preferring to be the typical bachelor. He spends his nights hopping from one bed to another and his days working at his family tattoo shop, Inked. A chance encounter on a dark road makes him question what he had sworn off forever – a relationship.
A night of passion and lust causes them to question everything. Is City the knight in shining armor to the damsel in distress? Can their relationship survive when a fantasy falls apart and a secret comes out that changes everything?
Throttle Me introduces us to the loud and loving Gallo family. The moment we see them all together, you just know you’re in for some fun with this series. Chelle Bliss has created a dynamic and vibrant group of characters that epitomize everything family should be. Their love and respect for one another is unquestionable, while their fierce protectiveness and lighthearted teasing make their bonds unbreakable. When City and Suzy first meet, you wonder how two people could be more opposite. As City helps Suzy loosen the reins and Suzy shows City how to open his heart, you won’t be able to help but fall in love with this great couple and the rest of the Gallo family. Throttle Me certainly left me excited for the rest of this series.
Both Suzy and City undergo great character transformations over the course of this story. Suzy is a structured and regimented teacher who lives by her lists in order to keep herself on track to find her happily ever after. As City comes roaring into her life and rips her to-do list to shreds, we get to see this character unravel her own layers and really come into her own. By the end of the book, Suzy is so much more than what she first appeared to be and I enjoyed getting to know this feisty, intelligent woman. City on the other hand, lives life on the fly and has no plans for commitment. As much as I adore a good bad boy, that growth into so much more is undeniably attractive. Chelle Bliss had me swooning hard for City, who proved to be the perfect balance of prince charming and badass biker.
City and Suzy’s journey took us down a winding road as they both fought to step out from the shadows of their pasts. Their story was full of surprises that kept me on my toes. Even at the end of the story, when I thought I had everything figured out, a last minute detail changes the vibe of the story. Chelle Bliss certainly knows how to toy with my feelings as she had me bouncing from excited to frustrated to anxious and back over the course of this story. The more emotional moments of the story tugged at my heart and had me feeling deeply. Chelle has a fresh voice that instantly grabbed me and pulled me into the story. Her fantastic characters, fun storyline, and witty dialogue will certainly have me coming back for more of this crazy, colorful family.
There was so much hype everywhere in the blogger world about this book so I absolutely could not wait to get my hands on it. I was so excited to receive an ARC for review! Let me just tell you – Chelle Bliss DID NOT disappoint! I was so throttled with City! Not to mention, look at that gorgeous cover. This is one of those books you one-click because of the hotness, but keep reading because of how genuinely great the book is!
Suzy was such a character – I absolutely loved her innocence and how completely opposite of City that she was. The fact that she was self-proclaimed OCD with her lists always left me cracking up because that is so me! Whenever they joked about her innocence or her checklist, I saw so much of myself in her, which just made me appreciate the book even more. She wasn’t just a character in a book; she was a friend who I could completely relate to. I also loved seeing her transformation throughout the book. It was a slow process that I don’t think she even fully realized it was happening. It gave such a genuine feel to this character.
And oh, City, City, City! He was so masculine and alpha and dominating. He could push Suzy’s buttons, but he always knew her limits. This intuitiveness is just every girl’s dream. He was instantly protective of Suzy and it only grew. This is one of my favorite qualities in a male character so I instantly fell in love and swooned hardcore. I also appreciated the mystery that surrounded him. Chelle writes his character in a way that you always know there is something more to him, but never feeling like you’re missing out. It’s definitely a gift she has to walk that line successfully.
Furthermore, these characters together just worked for me. They exhibited real insecurities and emotions. The fact that they were complete and total opposites just had me rooting even harder for them as a couple, especially when they couldn’t see it themselves. The secondary characters in the book had me desiring more of their stories as well. As soon as I finished the book, I had to figure out which character we’d get more of. The dynamic between the members of the Gallo family, as well as between Suzy with Sophia and Kayden just left me wondering what the back story for each and every one of them is (hint, hint Chelle!).
The plot was also pretty intriguing. It wasn’t a lot of rollercoaster drama or angst, but it was the perfect amount to keep you on your toes but not think it’s overly dramatic. Furthermore, the line of events just seemed so realistic. There was never an occurrence where I had to roll my eyes and think “enough already!”, which I absolutely appreciated! It was fear and feelings I that I expected to see in these characters given their personalities. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to fellow readers! It’s holy hot and steamy with the perfect amount of dramatics; a quick read you’re bound to love!
“Do you swear?” I asked as she set the glass back on the bar.
“What?” She gaped at me.
“Do you swear? Simple question. You’ve said ‘heck’ and ‘friggin’’ so far, but nothing dirty.”
“Oh, um, yeah, I swear.” Her cheeks turned pink and a small smile spread across her face. “I’m just used to watching my words with the kids around all day.”
“Prove it,” I said as I stared in her blue sapphire eyes.
“Cause I need to know if it’s in you. Are you all good girl or is there more under there dying to come out?” I hid the smile and laughter that was so close to breaking free from my lips. The pink of her cheeks spread across her face. I know I embarrassed her, but fuck, I needed to know if I stood a chance.
“Yes, I swear. What do you think I am? I’m not a child, City.” She glared at me as she raised the drink to her lips and wrapped them around the rim. Fuck I wanted those lips wrapped around my shaft, taking me deep and sucking me off.
“Never said you were, babe. Do you drink besides tonight?” I asked, now smiling because I knew she was upset. I liked the fire I saw in her eyes when I pointed out her good girl qualities – she obviously didn’t like being labeled.
“Sometimes. I’m just responsible. I don’t drink and drive. My dad used to be a cop and it was drilled into my head at an early age.” The words she spoke hit me like a ton of bricks. Drunk driving was the one thing in the world that caused my blood to boil.
Good girl teacher with a cop father? Just my luck. “Nothin’ wrong with that. Virgin daiquiris aren’t always your thing, then?”
“Why? Do I have to be a drinker? I mean does it make me less of an adult?”
“No, Suzy. Just trying to get a feel for who you are – what you are.”
