My name is Olivia Bloom and I. Am. Free.

I left for LA with everything I owned piled into my old Volkswagen and dreams of becoming a costume designer. Little did I know I’d wind up designing for a lingerie company—yeah, not sure how I landed this gig—and taken under the wing of two young Hollywood insiders. The fashion shows and parties were great, but life really got exciting when the seriously hottest lead singer of my favorite band started to fall for me.

How does someone like me, an ordinary girl from Pittsburgh, wind up in the arms of the world’s sexiest rock star—surrounded by celebrities, fashion, and music—and not be eaten alive? Berkeley is everything I’ve ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, but the paparazzi, the tabloids, the rumors, it’s all getting a bit too crazy. My life has become every girl’s dream come true, if only I don’t blink and lose it all…

A refreshing change of pace, In Bloom was a sweet, smart, and sassy rock star romance! There are quite a few books centered on the “regular girl” falling for the swoon-worthy rock star, but this story was definitely one of my favorites. It was witty and fun, giving readers a glimpse of day-to-day life on the A-list in a way that was surprisingly relatable. Despite its celebrity focus, Olivia and Berkeley’s journey felt incredibly genuine and Katie Delahanty did an incredible job avoiding the over-the-top tone that makes some rocker romances a little too unbelievable. I easily found myself wholly invested in the characters and loved watching their relationships blossom and change over the course of this book. Olivia and Berkeley had an electric chemistry that captured my heart and held me hostage from the very first page. I loved exploring their seemingly rare connection and experiencing the heartache and happiness that followed them along their journey.

“Do not talk to me. Do not look at me. I’ve been making guacamole, and I hate you.”

Olivia Bloom was a fantastic heroine. Eager to avoid drama, intelligent, hard working, and ready to have a little fun, she’s the kind of woman you just want to be best friends with. In the beginning I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like this character as she allowed her friends to make her over into the typical Hollywood “It” girl. But as she found herself in spite of the designer labels and false personalities that surrounded her, I grew to love the strong, feisty, independent woman who wasn’t afraid to tell the world she was happy with who she was. Berkeley, on the other hand, was already deeply immersed in the world of Hollywood following the success of his band, but Katie Delahanty made him incredibly lovable by skipping the I’m-going-to-sleep-with-every-girl-I-meet phase and giving us a rock god who was a little older, a lot wiser, and no longer mesmerized by the limelight. I must applaud Katie Delahanty for her fantastic development of both Olivia and Berkeley. I absolutely adored getting to know both of these characters and found myself effortlessly rooting for their happily ever after.

“If you ever meet the girl you can’t bear to live without, tell her you’re glad she listened to her mother.”

Filling out Olivia and Berkeley’s world were a handful of phenomenal secondary characters that oftentimes, stole the show. Parker, Blair, Boots, and the other members of The Brightside made for hilarious and loyal best friends that kept me grinning, even when things between Olivia and Berkeley were less than perfect. I also adored the integration of social media throughout the story as every chapter began with a few tweets sent back and forth between the characters. These short exchanges were exactly what I would have expected from the various personalities in this book and it made them that much more tangible to me as a reader. Katie Delahanty has definitely started something special with In Bloom. Her vibrant imagery, colorful characters, thoughtful prose, and intelligent humor have me solidly addicted to The Brightside Series and I will undoubtedly be back for more of Olivia, Berkeley, and the rest of this memorable cast of characters. If you like rocker romances and Hollywood love stories with a ton of heart then In Bloom is absolutely worth the one-click!
